An understanding has been passed down to us that Mozart had a somewhat jaundiced view of the flute, that he had not the inclination to lavish upon it the love and care and idiomatic poetry which give rise to the concertos for clarinet and horn and the wind parts of the operas and piano concertos. But, as Graham Rogers points out in his note, the evidence for this misunderstanding is at best circumstantial. When we listen to these concertos and fragments, we find solo parts every bit as quintessentially Mozartian as those cited above. They may not rival the piano concertos of his mature Vienna years, but they are masterpieces in their way, and are indeed the best of their kind.Best of all is the concertante piece he wrote for a wealthy French count and his harp-playing daughter. From the ceremonial C major first movement, through the gracefully fluent triple-time Andantino, to the joyous bustling finale, the music?s cloth is cut peerlessly to the technical possibilities and individual timbres of both instruments. These 1972 recordings were made by the cream of the Dutch early music movement, led by one of its alma parens, Frans Brüggen. They date from a time when early-music values of transparency, buoyancy and lightness of touch and tone were just beginning to filter through to performances of music from the Classical era, and they stand the test of time.1. Dupuy & Büchner: Romantic Flute Concertos brilliant classics

Kultura. Sztuka. >Muzyka Taniec Śpiew

Edouard Dupuy (1770-1822) was a Swiss composer who trained with Jan Ladislav Dussek in Paris before becoming a member of the court orchestra for Prince Henry of Prussia. By all accounts he lived a turbulent lifestyle, and was finally dismissed from his post after he rode into the middle of a church service on horseback. Until then his considerable musical talents had apparently pardoned his eccentric behaviour, but he took himself off to Scandinavia and died in Stockholm. His Flute Concerto is a marvellously tense and testing work, as contoured to its instrument and early-Romantic idiom as the concertos for clarinet by Weber and for piano by Chopin. The concerto has been little recorded hitherto but its very considerable technical demands hold no terrors for Ginevra Petrucci (b.1989), who has previously recorded the complete Flute Quintets by Friedrich Kuhlau for Brilliant Classics (BC94769) and more recently Haydn

The concerto has been little recorded hitherto but its very considerable technical demands hold no terrors for Ginevra Petrucci (b.1989), who has previously recorded the complete Flute Quintets by Friedrich Kuhlau for Brilliant Classics (BC94769) and more recently Haydn?s Duos (BC94620) for the instrument with her father, Gianluca Petrucci. The pairing is even less often encountered in concert and more enticing: the concerto by Ferdinand Büchner (1825-1912). Its tonality of F minor (a rarely used and tragic key) gives notice of a developed and individual compositional voice, and so it proves. Büchner was a flautist-composer who spent most of his career in Russia; this concerto was the first of several, and now considered to be his finest, but very little of his music is recorded; this newly recorded album fills a significant gap in the recorded history of the Romantic flute at its most virtuosic and may prompt critical and popular interest in the rest of Büchner?s work. Two seldom heard Romantic Flute Concertos by Dupuy and Büchner!Edouard Dupuy (1770-1822) was a precocious musical talent, violinist, flutist and singer (he sang the Danish premiere of Don Giovanni!). A flamboyant romantic and womaniser his adventures led him to various European countries, finally settling in Sweden. Ferdinand Büchner (1825-1912) began his career as a flutist in various German orchestras. His talent was recognised by Anton Rubinstein, who appointed him as first Flute Professor in his newly founded Music Conservatory in Moscow. His Flute Concerto in F minor is a grand scale romantic work of symphonic proportions, demanding a high level of virtuosity of the soloist, especially in the substantial Cadenza in the third movement.Beautiful performances by Ginevra Petrucci, who already recorded successfully for Brilliant Classics in the Flute Quintets by Kuhlau (5 star reviews in France and Italy!), accompanied by the Orchestra I Pomeriggi Musicali, one of the oldest (founded in 1945) and most respected chamber orchestras of Italy.

Opis - Federico Guglielmo and his ensemble L"Arte dell"Arco have already made a number of acclaimed recordings of Vivaldi"s music for Brilliant Classics. This boxset brings together CDs previously published along with never-before-heard recordings, spanning Vivaldi"s Concertos and Sonatas Opp. 1"12 plus a bonus CD of Cello Sonatas. The comprehensive collection showcases the perennial music of "Il prete rosso", with Italian musicians playing on authentic instruments, giving the closest version possible to the sounds that would have resonated in Venice 300 years ago. Guglielmo shines at the helm of his closely- knit ensemble; from the Trio Sonatas Op.1, which showed Vivaldi"s prowess at writing within an already well-established genre, through to his Violin Sonatas Op.2, with their elaborate asides for the ensemble as well as the solo instrument. "L"estro armonico" ("Harmonic inspiration"), a collection of 12 concertos, brought VivaldiEuropean-wide fame for the first time, which he soon built on through his next publication "Il cimento dell"armonia e dell"inventione" ("The contest between harmony and invention"). Arguably the composer"s most famous collection, "Il cimento" includes the delightful Four Seasons, as well as more concertos with evocative titles, such as ?La caccia" ("The hunt?) and ?La tempesta di mare" ("The sea storm?). The ensemble varies depending on the piece, with some concertos styled with a small group of soloists accompanied by a ripieno, and others allowing one soloist to take a prominent role. This release is proud to feature some of Guglielmo?s long-time collaborators, including Mario Folena on the flute, Pier Luigi Fabretti on the oboe and Francesco Galligioni on the cello, all experienced performers with a sound that blends perfectly with L"Arte dell"Arco. The ensemble itself also differs from piece to piece, with Guglielmo carefully selecting the number of performers and instrumentation for each individual work, thereby creating the most authentic performance possible. Guglielmo and his players bring a fresh interpretation to these beloved concertos as well as providing the listener with an opportunity to delve into Vivaldi?s lesser-known earlier works. With just one player per part, L"Arte dell"Arco strip back the layers, bringing a revitalising transparency to Vivaldi"s complex writing. The release includes world premieres of performances based on new critical editions of Vivaldi"s music authorised by the Istituto Italiano Antonio Vivaldi, based at the Fondazione Giorgio Cini in Venice. For the first time Vivaldi"s complete Op. 1-12 in one set! Already during his lifetime Vivaldi was a popular and successful composer, and, possessing a keen commercial talent, he published his own works. The works published during his lifetime are contained in his Opus 1-12, featuring such popular cycles as the Four Seasons, L"Estro Armonico, La Stravaganza, the flute concertos, and several sets of trio sonatas. These are by far to most popular works by the Venetian priest, and today they sound as fresh and sensational as when they were composed. Newly recorded and based on the new Critical Edition by Alessandro Borin, Istituto Italiano Antonio Vivaldi, Fondazione Giorgio Cini, Venice. Performed by the Italian Early Music group L"Arte dell"Arco, led by violinist (and soloist) Federico Guglielmo. French magazine Diapason wrote about them: "they understand the secret language of Vivaldi"rich and generous instrumental textures envelop the expressive lines of the solo violin"". All the previous separate issues have met with great critical acclaim, resulting in many 5 star reviews in the international press. Included as a bonus CD, the new recording of the Cello Sonatas. Although without opus number they were certainly published during Vivaldi?s lifetime. Contains a biography of the performers. Recorded in Italy in 2010 - 2014. Contains excellent liner notes by Vivaldi specialists. Pietro Antonio Locatelli was one of the most important composers of the Baroque period, being a particularly celebrated composer of violin repertoire. His collection L?arte del violino contains 12 violin concertos with 24 caprices in the first and last movement of each, allowing for astonishing displays of virtuosity. He was born in Bergamo, Italy, in 1695, and at the age of 16 went to Rome to study the violin. Despite the popular myth that he was taught by Corelli, it?s unlikely that he ever made contact with him; however, he certainly studied with members of the Corelli ?school?, improving both his compositional skills and his performing technique.Although details of the composer?s life are somewhat sketchy, it?s clear Locatelli was linked to some of the most influential aristocrats of the time. At some point he was under the protection of Monsignor Camillo Cybo, an advisor to the Pope; at another point, he was granted the title of ?virtuoso da camera? by the Habsburgian governor of Mantua Philipp von Hesse-Darmstadt. Just these fleeting details are enough to tell us of Locatelli?s growing reputation for virtuosic playing; in Munich in 1727 he was awarded 12 gold florins for a performance, and he pops up again in Germany in 1728, receiving money for services to the court in Kassel.Eventually, business-savvy Locatelli ended up in Amsterdam, where the music publishing industry had taken off. Thanks to the composer?s meticulous attention to the publication of his works, and the fact that he was legally required to give copies to the Leiden University library, we are left with excellent manuscripts of his Opp. 1?9. His business acumen must have paid off, as his estate at the time of his death comprised large collections of works of art and old books, indicating an impressive prosperity.Locatelli was the forerunner of 19th-century virtuosity, and the works on this release reveal a composer eager to exploit the sound of the violin. As well as writing technically demanding solo passages, however, he was also an inventive writer for the supporting instruments, demonstrating a superb knack for fugal writing, and intensifying the texture of the concertino group with the addition of a viola, something unusual for the time. This release is an excellent opportunity to become better acquainted with Locatelli and the wealth of music he composed throughout his life. Demonstrating the versatility of Locatelli?s writing, this set includes his Op.5 Trio Sonatas ?o due violini o due flauti? for the violin as well as the flute, allowing the listener to experience the composer?s florid writing in two very different interpretations.Igor Ruhadze and his group Ensemble Violini Capricciosi have dedicated themselves to recording Locatelli?s works for some years now. Careful research along with a genuine enthusiasm for the overlooked composer?s works have led to a fine set of recordings, previously described by Gramophone as ?brilliantly and at times breathtakingly performed?. The release also includes new recordings of the composer?s Concerti Grossi Opp. 1 & 7 and Introduzioni Teatrali Op.4, as well as the haunting Sinfonia funebre, a work to mark the death of an unknown woman in Rome. The vibrant playing of the Ensemble Violini Capricciosi is complemented by Musica ad Rhenum, led by highly acclaimed flautist Jed Wentz, who perform the Flute and Trio Sonatas. This release represents excellent value for money, at only ?30.00 for 21CDs of listening pleasure; a compelling and masterful accomplishment just waiting to be enjoyed. The first and only Complete Locatelli Edition ever!Locatelli, like many of his contemporaries, moved abroad and settled in Amsterdam/The Netherlands, concertising as a violinist (and a ?devil? he was as a performer!), and founding a flourishing publishing house.Locatelli composed in the tradition of the Italian Baroque, in the well known forms of the Concerto Grosso, Solo Concerto and Trio Sonata. His style is inventive, flamboyant, and extremely virtuoso. His violin sonatas and concertos still present a daunting challenge even to today?s violinists.Russian violinist Igor Ruhadze was trained in his native Moscow as a virtuoso on the modern violin. However, his interest took him into early music, playing with such ensembles as Musica ad Rhenum, Jed Wentz and others. His solid technique enables him to tackle the often fearful difficulties of Locatelli?s music with ease, charm and brilliance. His ensemble Violini Capricciosi play on original instruments, and follow the Historically Informed Performance Practice. Also included the two sets of Flute Sonatas, played by Jed Wentz, one of the most respected and celebrated flutist of Early Music.Linernotes written by the artists.A unique set, brand new recordings, performances which received universal critical acclaim for its dazzling virtuosity, style awareness and the sheer joy of making music!Recorded in The Netherlands between 1995 and 2014Contains detailed notes on the works

Vivaldi & Chedeville: Complete Recorder Sonatas from "Il Pastor Fido" (Płyta CD)

Książki & Multimedia > Muzyka

Opis - The first thing to say about these six flute sonatas is that they are not by Vivaldi, nor did they ever have anything to do with the Italian composer. They are instead the work of Nicolas de Chédeville (1705-1782), an oboist and musette player, a student of the great French recorder virtuoso Louis Hotteterre who by the age of 25 had acquired a sufficient name for himself to publish his own compositions. He in turn became an esteemed teacher who worked for the royal households. In 1737 he made a secret agreement with Jean-Noël Marchand for the latter to obtain a privilege to engrave, print and sell a work as Vivaldi's Il pastor fido, op.13, but in a notarial act dated 17 September 1749 Marchand declared that Chédeville was the composer, also revealing that Chédeville had provided the money for the publication and was receiving the emoluments. It is not certain why Chédeville chose to have his own work attributed to Vivaldi and issued under the privilege of Marchand, but perhaps, as Lescat has suggested, he was trying to give the musette, his favourite instrument, the endorsement of a great composer that it had lacked up until then. But Chédeville, Vivaldi, whoever: what counts is the dancing vitality and simple, beguiling charm of these sonatas, which are played here by an experienced Italian early-music ensemble, whose previous recordings on Brilliant have met with warm critical response. These include concertos by Fiorenza and Mele (BC93956), Sammartini (BC94157), CPE Bach, Telemann " and even some authentic Vivaldi. The Baroque recorder sonatas on this CD bear the title "Il pastor fido", a hugely popular play by Giovanni Guarini, which inspired many composers with its sensuous, pastoral and "romantic? atmosphere. The sonatas were attributed to Antonio Vivaldi (because of the commercial power of his fame) till in 1990 proof was found they have been written by the French composer Nicolas Chédeville, who borrowed material from Vivaldi and other composers, and developed it in the same idiom. Excellent performances by the Ensemble Pro Musica, elite players from the Italian Early Music scene: Stefano Bagliano (recorder), Andrea Coen (harpsichord and organ). Extensive liner notes on the history of this exquisite and charming music in English and Italian in the booklet.
