Pierwsza część X-Men: Mutant Academy przyniosła zadowalające wyniki finansowe i kwestią czasu było podjęcie decyzji o rozpoczęciu prac nad częścią drugą. I oto jest - nadchodzi, zbliża się, za chwilę będzie w konsoli. Po podpisaniu umowy z Activision grupa koderów skrywająca się pod nazwą Paradox Entertainment (autorzy mocno krytykowanego, PC-towego action/RPG DragonFire: Well Of Souls) rzuca hitami jak z rękawa. Bijatyki X-Men: Mutant Academy i Wu-Tang: Shaolin Style sprzedały się znakomicie i wszystko wskazuje na to, że X-Men: Mutant Academy 2 powtórzy ich wyniki. W grze pojawią się bowiem wszystkie postacie znane z części pierwszej, a więc Wolverine, Cyclops, Gambit, Storm, Beast, Phoenix, Mystique, Toad, Magneto i Sabretooth, wsparte sześcioma nowymi osobnikami. Wśród nich czołowe skrzypce zagrają Rogue, Forge, Nightcrawler i brat Cyklopa Havok (pozostałych dwóch bohaterów trzeba będzie odblokować). Oczywiście każdy fajter posiadać ma swoje własne techniki walki i charakterystyczne specjale, niekoniecznie przeniesione z części pierwszej, zaś nowa funkcja 'wstań szybko' (ang. get up quick) wpłynie na dynamikę walki. Ciekawostką są też nowe areny: X-Mansion, Asteroid M, wyspa Muir i Kościół, a także dwa ukryte miejsca. Będą oczywiście trójwymiarowe, tak jak i w X-Men: Mutant Academy, jednak sama gra pozostanie 2D. To dobrze, wielkie zmiany mogłyby niekorzystnie wpłynąć na przyzwoitą grywalność programu. Nowa muzyka i ponownie nagrane, nieco inne odgłosy postaci sprawią zaś, że nawet mało uważny gracz zauważy, że wziął do ręki kolejną część tego przeboju. W X-Men: Mutant Academy 2 pojawią się cztery standardowe tryby rozgrywki. Pierwszy z nich, Academy mode, to klasyczny trening u boku profesora X, polegający na opanowaniu umiejętności związanych z byciem mutantem. Arcade odpowiada klasycznej bijatyce, Survival trybowi przeżycia znanemu z innych gier gatunku, zaś Versus pozwala zagrać z kolegą. Postacie mają być o wiele lepiej zbalansowane, co z pewnością ucieszy graczy korzystających z tego ostatniego trybu. Gra wykorzystuje kontrolery Dual-Shock, co jest obecnie normą, ponadto oferuje tzw. Cerebro mode, dzięki któremu gracze zobaczą, jak powstawał film fabularny z X-Menami w rolach głównych (szkice, kostiumy, zdjęcia z planu).
