Alicja w krainie czarów
to utwór angielskiego wykładowcy matematyki Charlesa Lutwidge'a Dodgsona, piszącego pod pseudonimem Lewis Carroll. Utwór został opublikowany w dniu 4 lipca 1865 roku. Angielski tytuł dosłownie znaczy: Przygody Alicji w Krainie Dziwów, jednak pierwsi polscy tłumacze oddali Wonderland jako Krainę Czarów, choć w całej książce nie ma o czarach ani słowa. Książka zachowuje absurdalną logikę snu, jest wypełniona satyrycznymi aluzjami do przyjaciół i wrogów Dodgsona, parodiami szkolnych wierszyków, których uczyły się w XIX-wieku brytyjskie dzieci, zawiera także odniesienia lingwistyczne i matematyczne.

Utwór jest trudny do sklasyfikowania. Traktowanie go tylko jako bajki dla dzieci byłoby nieporozumieniem, choć to dla nich była pisana. Maciej Słomczyński pisze w przedmowie do Alicji w swoim tłumaczeniu, że "jest to zapewne jedyny wypadek w dziejach piśmiennictwa, gdzie jeden tekst zawiera dwie zupełnie różne książki: jedną dla dzieci i drugą dla bardzo dorosłych." Kontynuacją utworu jest Alicja po drugiej stronie lustra.

Tytułowa bohaterka utworu - Alicja jest fikcyjną postacią z powieści pt. Alicja w Krainie Czarów (ang. Alice's Adventures in Wonderland) i jej drugiej części Po drugiej stronie lustra (ang. Through the Looking-Glass and What Alice Found There) autorstwa Charlesa Lutwidge’a Dodgsona. Inspiracją postaci była dziesięcioletnia córka przyjaciół Carrolla, Alice Liddell, która wraz z siostrami często słuchała jego fantastycznych opowieści. Pierwsze wydanie przygód Alicji (w roku 1865) opatrzone jest ilustracjami Johna Tenniela, jednak nie przedstawiają one Alice Liddell, gdyż ilustrator nigdy jej osobiście nie spotkał.

Alicja jest bardzo logicznie myślącą osóbką. Zwykle przedstawia się ją w błękitnej sukience do kolan z nałożonym białym fartuszkiem, chociaż w pierwszym wydaniu książki z kolorowymi ilustracjami (tzw. The Nursery "Alice") sukienka była koloru żółtego. Dziewczynka ma blond włosy przewiązane szeroką czarną opaską, która w Wielkiej Brytanii doczekała się nawet nazwy „opaska Alicji” (ang. Alice band).
