Kybalion; A Study of the Hermetic Philosophy of Ancient Egypt and Greece, by Three Initiates Martino Fine Books

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

2011 Reprint of 1905 Edition. Full facsimile of the original edition, not reproduced with Optical Recognition Software. "The Kybalion", first published in 1905, claims to be the essence of the teachings of Hermes Trismegistus. It was published anonymously by a group or person under the pseudonym of "the Three Initiates". The book purports to be based upon ancient Hermeticism, though many of its ideas are relatively modern concepts arising from the New Thought movement. Rumored to be an ancient Egyptian man-god who fathered astrology, alchemy, and other magical arts, the figure of Hermes has fascinated readers of occult literature for generations. Writers in late antiquity named Hermes Trismegistus as the author of their own esoteric teachings, building the mystery of his lineage. Since 1905, The Kybalion-written at the hand of the unnamed "Three Initiates"-has itself generated debate and controversy. Who is behind it? Do its ideas really arise from the secrets of a distant era? And, most important, do they work for the modern seeker? In this concise, engaging guide, the pseudonymous author breaks down Hermetic doctrine into seven compelling principles, and then provides practical methods for how to apply them for self-development in daily life.

Life of the Ancient Egyptians Univ of Oklahoma Pr

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

This lavishly illustrated book conveys the wonder of Ancient Egypt through the daily activities of its people - not the lives of Egypt's royalty or elite classes, but the typical men and women who composed this magnificent civilization. Exceptional for its range, the volume portrays Egyptian life from birth and childhood through education, love and marriage, occupations, war, and finally the soul's journey to the netherworld. A particular strength is the coverage of anatomical material and medical texts. Other topics include the role of women, fashion, dance and music, agriculture, crafts, and construction of the pyramids and tombs. This in-depth portrait draws on the complete spectrum of sources: artifacts from tombs and settlement sites; inscribed potsherds and ostraca as well as papyri; material from the excavation of homes, shrines, and tomb chapels; reliefs and wall-paintings. Accompanying the text, 289 superb illustrations - including 219 colour plates - vividly portray Egyptian civilization through its creations and treasures. The thematic structure of the book imparts a visual coherence rarely found in illustrated books on Ancient Egypt. Among the photographs are many rare images not previously available. The illustrations convey a picture of Ancient Egyptian society that is compelling and immediate, despite the millennia that separate us from that great culture. Notable for thoroughness, accuracy, and sheer beauty, this indispensable guide will appeal to the serious student or scholar, as well as anyone interested in ancient civilizations.

This 2011 book is a history of religious life in the Ancient Near East from the beginnings of agriculture to Alexander the Great's invasion in the 300s BCE. Daniel C. Snell traces key developments in the history, daily life and religious beliefs of the people of Ancient Mesopotamia, Egypt, Israel and Iran. His research investigates the influence of those ideas on the West, with particular emphasis on how religious ideas from this historical and cultural milieu still influence the way modern cultures and religions view the world. Designed to be accessible to students and readers with no prior knowledge of the period, the book uses fictional vignettes to add interest to its material, which is based on careful study of archaeological remains and preserved texts. The book will provide a thoughtful summary of the Ancient Near East and includes a comprehensive bibliography to guide readers in further study of related topics.

Opis - Pierwsze na świecie świadectwo ofiary zbrodni honorowej. Miała siedemnaście lat i zakochała się: zhańbiła rodzinę. Więc rodzina wydała na nią wyrok śmierci... Pokochała go pierwszą miłością. Myślała, że się z nią ożeni. Ale ukochany zniknął, a ona odkryła, że jest w ciąży. A w jej świecie to najcięższa zbrodnia... Wyrok wydaje jej ojciec. Szwagier dokonuje egzekucji. Oblewa Souad benzyną i podpala... As a practicing Allergist/Immunologist, I have written a general interest medical book on allergic disease, summarizing several of the major changes in day to day life over the past 50 years that has led tostates of increased inflammation. There is now an Epidemic of allergicand autoimmune disease in the first and developing world. While outdoorclimate change is now considered common knowledge, the impact oflonger work hours, artificial lighting, increased food shelf life and changesto the microbiome all have made a large impact. An "Allergy" is best defined as an "damaging response from theImmune system due to a substance in the environment." Immune responses start asout warning signals, or generalized "symptoms" that are caused by something inthe environment. Itching, aches, pains, swelling, coughing, and fatigue arejust Immune responses. Humans have adapted and dwell in extremely differentenvironments all over the world, but there is no place on the planet thathasn't been drastically affected by the planetary changes of the past 50 years. The cost of becoming the modern world is obvious, and recognized as is a globalpriority. But more than the polar ice caps or global warming, the personalmicroenvironment, I.E the things in people's lives that their body interactswith on a daily basis My hope is that after the first two chapters, readers should beaware that their body is in an unquestionably harmful environment, and that forthe most part the Immune system is just doing its job. With the followingchapters we get into the specifics, starting with microorganisms. The humanbody needs good bacteria to feel good, unfortunately we killed them all. Wedidn't kill the good ones on purpose, at the time there was no real clue howimportant good bacteria were. The miracle of antibiotics has transformed theworld - but at the cost of the good bacteria. Bacteria are much simplerorganisms and their reproductive life cycle is measured in hours to days. The next two chapters focus on indoor living, where we spend 98%of our day. Dust mites are worth a whole chapter on discussion. Whilescientists have been aware of these nearly invisible parasites for hundreds ofyears, and they have existed within our society since Ancient Egypt. The pastfew decades have seen an explosion of climate controlled, humidified indoorairspace that is ideally suited more mass production of mites. They cannot bekilled and they cannot be cleaned. At approximately 75% of the way throughthe book the reader should have complete awareness that the environment weexist in is alien, hostile, and our bodies are doing an amazing job stillhanging on!All roads of inflammation from the environment lead to the mastcell compartment. The stresses responses of the body, summarily drive up thiscompartment of the body, and has led to a world-wide prevalence between 14-17%of "mast cell activation syndrome." While genetics and comorbid conditions areimportant in any symptom or disease process, the mast cell compartment feedsand grows off all the major environmental changes of the past 50 or so years. Thisis why the human body in the 21st century is in a low level state of"rejection," of the world. Most of these changes are irreversible, but thesituation is not hopeless. Understanding how the body changes itself inresponse to its environment will allow controlled desensitization to theenvironment. With a special focus on Allergy and Mast Cell Activation, the target audience would bePrimary Care providers, physician assistants, nurses, patients and family members ofthose with Allergic Di

Who was Cleopatra? Her very name evokes images of romance and mystery. In 50 B.C.E., Alexandria was the Mediterranean's most magnificent city, a center of culture and learning - and the seat of power for Egypt's last pharaoh and most famous queen, Cleopatra VII, who partnered with both Julius Caesar and his successor, Marc Anthony. Her tragic story has been told over and over, by interpreters ranging from Shakespeare to Elizabeth Taylor. Now, Zahi Hawass and fellow archaeologists bring the queen and her city back into vivid view. Over the past 15 years, French archaeologist Franck Goddio, in conjunction with Egypt's Supreme Council of Antiquities, has combed ancient submerged sites in the vicinity of Alexandria, revealing artifacts from tiny gold coins to colossal statues and stelae. This book combines his recent finds with the most important Cleopatra artifacts from museums in Cairo and Alexandria, resulting in a fascinating display of ancient Egypt in the fateful days before its final conquest by Rome.Statues of gods and sphinxes, likenesses of kings and queens, offerings and liturgical objects, items from daily life, the trappings of warriors, ceramics, jewelry, and coins - this dazzling collection of treasures, saved from the sea, brings back the humanity, culture, and beliefs of the people who created and used them. Readers will retrace the exciting expeditions of the marine archaeologists who pursued these objects with discipline and passion. Learn what history has to tell us about the life and character of the fabled queen and her patron goddess, Isis. Marvel at the restored Naos of the Decades, the world's first astrological calendar, long displayed in pieces on different continents...and now reconstructed for the first time since antiquity.

The religious and magical practices of the ancient Egyptians have had a profound and lasting effect on the world. Egypt has been described as the "mother of magicians". To appreciate the Egyptian view of magic, we need to accept that to the Egyptians magic was not considered strange or eccentric, but was a part of daily life, to which everyone resorted. Magic blended seamlessly with religion and medicine, being seen as part of a holistic worldview. In this volume these magical and religious practices are explored, from both a historical and practical perspective. The practices are explored from an ancient Egyptian worldview, taking into consideration that the Egyptian culture spread over a period of more than 3000 years. The Egyptians saw the universe as being made of four worlds - the everyday world we live in, the underworld, the sky and the heavens. Subject covered in this book include: -What is Heka? -Ancient Egyptian Worldviews -The Gods and Goddesses of Magic -Symbolism - Colours & Sacred Numbers -The Tools Used -Sacred Words & Gestures -Statues & Masks -Crystals & Other Materials used in Heka -Incenses & Perfumes -Food & Wine used in Offerings & at Feasts -The Ancient Egyptian Magical Calendar -Purification, Sacred Space & Rituals David Rankine is based in London (UK) and is a respected authority on spiritual & magical practices. Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

The tomb of Tutankhamun, discovered in 1922 in the Valley of the Kings in Luxor (Egypt) by Howard Carted, yielded over 5000 items. Among the vast number of richly embellished precious objects, such as the solid gold coffin and mask, were also more mundane objects, including the hitherto unpublished basketry objects. Baskets, the 'plastic bags' of the ancient world, were used for storage of all sorts of things, including food, clothing and jewellery, and many that were found in the tomb retained their original contents. The present work describes and illustrates the basketry and basketry boxes from the tomb in detail, giving attention to the technology, material, shape, decoration, as well as their contents. The analysis contextualises the basketry in a wider framework, comparing it with other examples and the visual record, with regard to the technology used to make them and their uses. The book will be of interest for those interested in basketry, ancient technology, daily life and burial customs in ancient Egypt and is written for a wide audience.ContentsPreface1.
