Sustainable Development Goals in Northeast India - 2877312821

Sustainable Development Goals in Northeast India Springer, Berlin

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

This book covers themes related to the geosphere, biosphere, sociosphere and ecosphere dealing with changing geographical, environmental and socio-economic realities to plan a sustainable future for the northeast region (NER) of India. The NER consists of eight states-Assam, Arunachal Pradesh, Tripura, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, Meghalaya and Sikkim-and they carry political, economic and social importance. The book integrates the past, present and future of geospheric attributes incorporating progress towards the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) to meet the demands for improving human wellbeing under diverse and challenging socio-economic, political and environmental conditions. The key SDGs, as in food and agriculture, health, education, water, energy and other overarching goals of the region, have yet to incorporate providing sustainable jobs and promoting equality and inclusive development, although there have been a few studies in that regard. The challenges to achieve SDGs in the NER are formidable compared to the rest of India. The NER has put a great deal of effort into achieving the SDGs, mainly in poverty (SDG-1), good health (SDG-3), education (SDG-4), gender (SDG-5), decent work (SDG-8) and reduced inequalities (SDG-10), similar to the rest of the country. However, the standard development indicators such as road length, access to health care, power consumption and other measures are far below the national average. A multi-pronged strategy has played a pivotal role in the region, but development strategy to attain the SDGs 2030 must be more inclusive in empowering people with maximising self-governance, considering the resources, needs and aspirations of the people. This book evaluates the performance of the SDGs and fills in the gaps. It includes case studies focusing on different SDGs using advanced cartographic, statistical and GIS techniques and methods. It also provides unique findings that serve as valuable resources for planners and policy-makers so that a sustainable future in Northeast India can be achieved.

Environmental Policy Integration - 2212827344

Environmental Policy Integration Earthscan

Inne 1

Environmentally sustainable development can only be achieved if environmental policies are integrated into all other areas of public policy. Recognizing this, the European Union has made the principle of environmental policy integration (EPI) a core policy objective. Applying the principle, however, presents very real and important challenges.' 'This volume explores the success with which EPI has been implemented and analyses the problems encountered. The degree of policy integration varies widely from country to country and from sector to sector and the reasons for the variation are correspondingly diverse and often surprising. Some are found at the Member State level, others in the nature of the sectoral policies and their stakeholders' interests. The proverbial 'dirty man of Europe', the UK is actively engaged in EPI domestically, while an environmental 'frontrunner' like Germany is making slow progress.' Although the importance of EPI is widely accepted, and not just in Europe, there has been no systematic study of the practical issues it throws up and the difficulties for policy formulation, decision-making and implementation. This book fills the gap, providing much needed analysis and recommendations for those studying or working on environmental and other sectoral policies.

Sustainable development is one of the most frequently used terms in contemporary social and spatial analysis. Theorists, researchers, planners and politicians discuss the problem in all its possible aspects. Sometimes one gets the impression that the notion of sustainable development is used to describe so many different things that its real meaning seems to be lost. The problem is especially complicated when we discuss the sustainable development of urban areas. The concentration of social and economic phenomena in a relatively small area intensifies the problems stemming from the dynamics of development. And the natural environment is often forgotten in urban development plans. Thus the issue of the sustainable development of cities evokes many doubts, misunderstandings and debates on such questions as:

Sustainable Design Springer London Ltd

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

This book is concerned with the importance of Human Computer Interaction (HCI), Usability, user participants, and Sustainability in the Information Communication Technology (ICT) industry throughout the world. ICTs have become a crucial instrument for communication, entertainment, commerce and research and this increased usage is presenting new environmental and sustainability issues as we try and meet the ever-growing needs of both businesses and individuals. Sustainability and sustainable design must become central to the design of new technologies to make a concerted effort to tackle the environmental concerns we face now and in the future. Development frameworks, tools and models are used and explored, and the New Participative Methodology for Sustainable Design (NPMSD) is introduced as a way of identifying key factors needed in developing more sustainable systems including new smart technology and portable devices. In this book, the sustainable step in the design stage is evaluated and assessed by 11 countries: namely, Australia, Brazil, China, Germany, India, Norway, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, UK, and USA. The new results are generated confirming that sustainable design awareness should be considered by designers, and users to minimize and reduce the carbon emissions, raw materials usage, and global warming, since these problems should be tackled soon, otherwise, it will be too late to solve it. Further research is needed in the future to implement and assess the sustainable design step with large IT companies to ensure compliance with environmental standards and rules for sustainable systems. Sustainable Design is an invaluable resource for students and researchers, designers and business managers who are interested in the human-centered, environmental concerns of sustainable technologies.
