Lectures on Vibrations - 2619309533

MECHANIKA

Owing to their flexibility, the components of structures and machinery are capable of relative motion when subjected to internal or external forces. If such motion is oscillatory in nature, the motion is referred to as vibration. Although applications exist where vibration performs a useful function, vibration in ships is undesirable as it tends to accelerate the wearing of parts such as bearings and gears, create excessive noise and transmit significant forces and/or motion to accommodation, working and recreation spaces as well as to other equipment. Humans may be exposed to vibrations transmitted to the whole body or to particular parts of the body, such as the head or limbs. Designers should primarily be concerned with vibrations transmitted to the body through supporting surfaces such as the buttocks or feet. Research shows that mechanical vibration interferes with work quality and productivity, safety, health, comfort, and causes motion sickness. The literature also shows that vibration may modify crewmember perception (e.g., reading text and instruments, depth perception), influence task control movements (e.g., tactile sense, head/hand movements, manual tracking) and lead to impairment of speech. These factors may result in increased crewmember reaction/response times and possibility of human error. There are many different sources of vibration in ships, such as propeller and stern wake, main engine and other machinery, wave loads and environmental effects. Due to the complexity of these sources of excitation and of the structural configuration of ships, harmful vibration problems still occur even though vibration prediction techniques have developed rapidly and are well established through the use of Finite Element Method software. Continuing research activities have shown that carrying out vibration control is a tend as well as requirement for ships and offshore structures. Also in many other engineering branches it is well known that the proper vibration control in the design process is necessary a safe and satisfactory working and living environment as well as to avoid abnormal wear and tear on the machinery and structures. Since vibration and noise disturb the surrounding medium, their levels should be low also from reason, particularly in submarines. The appropriately reduced acoustic emission and electromagnetic signature of submarines decrease a vessel

Computational Contact Mechanics - 2867121824

Computational Contact Mechanics Springer, Berlin

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

This is the second edition of the valuable reference source for numerical simulations of contact mechanics suitable for many fields like civil engineering, car design, aeronautics, metal forming, or biomechanics.§Boundary value problems involving contact are of great importance in industrial applications in engineering such as bearings, metal forming processes, rubber seals, drilling problems, crash analysis of cars, rolling contact between car tires and the road, cooling of electronic devices... Other applications are related to biomechanical engineering design where human joints, implants or teeth are of consideration. Due to this variety, contact problems are today combined either with large elastic or inelastic deformations including time dependent responses. Thermal coupling also might have to be considered. Even stability behaviour has to be linked to contact.§The topic of computational contact is described in depth providing an up-to-date treatment of different formulations, algorithms and discretisation techniques for contact problems which are established in the geometrically linear and nonlinear range. This book provides the necessary continuum mechanics background which includes the derivation of the contact constraints. Constitutive equations stemming from tribology which are valid at the contact interface are discussed in detail. Discretization schemes for small and finite deformations are discussed in depth. Solid and beam contact is considered as well as contact of unstable systems and thermomechanical contact. The algorithmic side covers a broad range of solution methods. Additionally adaptive discretisation techniques for contact analysis are presented as a modern tool for engineering design simulations. §The present text book is written for graduate, Masters and PhD students, but also for engineers in industry, who have to simulate contact problems in practical application and wish to understand the theoretical and algorithmic background of contact treatment in modern finite element systems.§For this second edition, illustrative simplified examples and new discretisation schemes as well as adaptive procedures for coupled problems are added.

Automotive Chassis Engineering - 2861984449

629,20 zł

Automotive Chassis Engineering Springer International Publishing AG

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

Written for students and practicing engineers working in automotive engineering, this book provides a fundamental yet comprehensive understanding of chassis systems and requires little prior knowledge on the part of the reader. It presents the material in a practical and realistic manner, using reverse engineering as a basis for examples to reinforce understanding of the topics. The specifications and characteristics of vehicles currently on the market are used to exemplify the theory's application, and care is taken to connect the various topics covered, so as to clearly demonstrate their interrelationships. The book opens with a chapter on basic vehicle mechanics, which include the forces acting on a vehicle in motion, assuming a rigid body. It then proceeds to a chapter on steering systems, which provides readers with a firm understanding of the principles and forces involved under static and dynamic loading. The next chapter focuses on vehicle dynamics by considering suspension systems-tyres, linkages, springs, dampers etc. The chapter on chassis structures and materials includes analysis tools (typically, finite element analysis) and design features that are used to reduce mass and increase occupant safety in modern vehicles. The final chapter on Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) includes a basic overview of acoustic and vibration theory and makes use of extensive research investigations and practical experience as a means of addressing NVH issues. In all subject areas the authors take into account the latest trends, anticipating the move towards electric vehicles, on-board diagnostic monitoring, active systems and performance optimisation. The book features a number of worked examples and case studies based on recent research projects. All students, including those on Master's level degree courses in Automotive Engineering, and professionals in industry who want to gain a better understanding of vehicle chassis engineering, will benefit from this book.
