Artificial Intelligence for Edge Computing - 2877495536

Artificial Intelligence for Edge Computing Springer, Berlin

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

It is undeniable that the recent revival of artificial intelligence (AI) has significantly changed the landscape of science in many application domains, ranging from health to defense and from conversational interfaces to autonomous cars. With terms such as "Google Home", "Alexa", and "ChatGPT" becoming household names, the pervasive societal impact of AI is clear. Advances in AI promise a revolution in our interaction with the physical world, a domain where computational intelligence has always been envisioned as a transformative force toward a better tomorrow. Depending on the application family, this domain is often referred to as Ubiquitous Computing, Cyber-Physical Computing, or the Internet of Things. The underlying vision is driven by the proliferation of cheap embedded computing hardware that can be integrated easily into myriads of everyday devices from consumer electronics, such as personal wearables and smart household appliances, to city infrastructure and industrial process control systems. One common trait across these applications is that the data that the application operates on come directly (typically via sensors) from the physical world. Thus, from the perspective of communication network infrastructure, the data originate at the network edge. From a performance standpoint, there is an argument to be made that such data should be processed at the point of collection. Hence, a need arises for Edge AI -- a genre of AI where the inference, and sometimes even the training, are performed at the point of need, meaning at the edge where the data originate. The book is broken down into three parts: core problems, distributed problems, and other cross-cutting issues. It explores the challenges arising in Edge AI contexts. Some of these challenges (such as neural network model reduction to fit resource-constrained hardware) are unique to the edge environment. They need a novel category of solutions that do not parallel more typical concerns in mainstream AI. Others are adaptations of mainstream AI challenges to the edge space. An example is overcoming the cost of data labeling. The labeling problem is pervasive, but its solution in the IoT application context is different from other contexts. This book is not a survey of the state of the art. With thousands of publications appearing in AI every year, such a survey is doomed to be incomplete on arrival. It is also not a comprehensive coverage of all the problems in the space of Edge AI. Different applications pose different challenges, and a more comprehensive coverage should be more application specific. Instead, this book covers some of the more endemic challenges across the range of IoT/CPS applications. To offer coverage in some depth, we opt to cover mainly one or a few representative solutions for each of these endemic challenges in sufficient detail, rather that broadly touching on all relevant prior work. The underlying philosophy is one of illustrating by example. The solutions are curated to offer insight into a way of thinking that characterizes Edge AI research and distinguishes its solutions from their more mainstream counterparts.

Stanley Kubrick BERTRAMS PRINT ON DEMAND

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

From his first feature film, "Fear and Desire" (1953), to his final, posthumously released "Eyes Wide Shut" (1999), Stanley Kubrick excelled at probing the dark corners of human consciousness. In doing so, he adapted such popular novels as "The Killing," "Lolita," "A Clockwork Orange," and "The Shining" and selected a wide variety of genres for his films -- black comedy ("Dr. Strangelove"), science fiction ("2001: A Space Odyssey"), and war ("Paths of Glory" and "Full Metal Jacket"). Because he was peerless in unveiling the intimate mysteries of human nature, no new film by Kubrick ever failed to spark debate or to be deeply pondered. Kubrick (1928-1999) has remained as elusive as the subjects of his films. Unlike many other filmmakers he was not inclined to grant interviews, instead preferring to let his movies speak for themselves. By allowing both critics and moviegoers to see the inner workings of this reclusive filmmaker, this first comprehensive collection of his relatively few interviews is invaluable. Ranging from 1959 to 1987 and including Kubrick's conversations with Gene Siskel, Jeremy Bernstein, Gene D. Phillips, and others, this book reveals Kubrick's diverse interests -- nuclear energy and its consequences, space exploration, science fiction, literature, religion, psychoanalysis, the effects of violence, and even chess -- and discloses how each affects his films. He enthusiastically speaks of how advances in camera and sound technology made his films more effective.Kubrick details his hands-on approach to filmmaking as he discusses why he supervises nearly every aspect of production. "All the hand-held camerawork is mine," he says in a 1972 interview about "A Clockwork Orange." "In addition to the fun of doing the shooting myself, I find it virtually impossible to explain what I want in a hand-held shot to even the most talented and sensitive camera operator. "Neither guarded nor evasive, the Kubrick who emerges from these interviews is candid, opinionated, confident, and articulate. His incredible memory and his gift for organization come to light as he quotes verbatim sections of reviews, books, and articles. Despite his reputation as a recluse, the Kubrick of these interviews is approachable, witty, full of anecdotes, and eager to share a fascinating story.

Rimsky-Korsakov: May Night Brilliant Classics

Nagrania muzyczneMuzyka poważna

Nikolai Rimsky-Korsakov (1844-1908) composed his comic opera May Night in 1878-9, at a time when he was fascinated in the stories for the supernatural and the fantastic. It was also at this time that he had been appointed to a teaching role at the St Petersburg Conservatory -- a role he thought himself ill prepared for. Much to the astonishment of his fellow composers and friends -- Borodin, Balakirev, and Mussorgsky he threw himself in to the study of counterpoint, writing canons, fugues -- all far removed from the spirit of Russian Nationalism in music he and his friends had championed. To show that he hadn't deviated from the path of music inspired by Russian folklore and culture, May Night, his second opera is perhaps his most 'Russian'.Based on a story by Nikolai Gogol, May Night, or the Drowned Maiden, Rimsky uses Gogol's story virtually unaltered, writing his own recitatives and some of the texts to arias. This adaption of ordinary speech or dialogue from the written story gave the work a colloquial folk like feel. Many of the tunes in the opera are from a collection published in 1872 by Alexander Rubets of Ukrainian folk songs. Rimsky's orchestration is superb -- glittering and highly illustrative of the supernatural realm of the 'rusalki' and in places foreshadows the music Wagner wrote in act 2 of Parsifal for the depiction of Klingsor's Garden.A footnote to the premiere at the Mariinsky Theatre in 1880 -- the role of Levko's tyrannical father was sung by Fyodor Stravinsky, who, two tears later would become the father of Igor Stravinsky....Other information- Recording made in 1995- Rimsky's operatic masterpiece- Booklet note essay

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

Open Sources 2.0 is a collection of insightful and thought-provoking essays from today's technology leaders that continues painting the evolutionary picture that developed in the 1999 book Open Sources: Voices from the Revolution . These essays explore open source's impact on the software industry and reveal how open source concepts are infiltrating other areas of commerce and society. The essays appeal to a broad audience: the software developer will find thoughtful reflections on practices and methodology from leading open source developers like Jeremy Allison and Ben Laurie, while the business executive will find analyses of business strategies from the likes of Sleepycat co-founder and CEO Michael Olson and Open Source Business Conference founder Matt Asay. From China, Europe, India, and Brazil we get essays that describe the developing world's efforts to join the technology forefront and use open source to take control of its high tech destiny. For anyone with a strong interest in technology trends, these essays are a must-read. The enduring significance of open source goes well beyond high technology, however. At the heart of the new paradigm is network-enabled distributed collaboration: the growing impact of this model on all forms of online collaboration is fundamentally challenging our modern notion of community. What does the future hold? Veteran open source commentators Tim O'Reilly and Doc Searls offer their perspectives, as do leading open source scholars Steven Weber and Sonali Shah. Andrew Hessel traces the migration of open source ideas from computer technology to biotechnology, and Wikipedia co-founder Larry Sanger and Slashdot co-founder Jeff Bates provide frontline views of functioning, flourishing online collaborative communities. The power of collaboration, enabled by the internet and open source software, is changing the world in ways we can only begin to imagine.Open Sources 2.0 further develops the evolutionary picture that emerged in the original Open Sources and expounds on the transformative open source philosophy. "This is a wonderful collection of thoughts and examples by great minds from the free software movement, and is a must have for anyone who follows free software development and project histories."--Robin Monks, Free Software Magazine The list of contributors include * Alolita Sharma * Andrew Hessel * Ben Laurie * Boon-Lock Yeo * Bruno Souza * Chris DiBona * Danese Cooper * Doc Searls * Eugene Kim * Gregorio Robles * Ian Murdock * Jeff Bates * Jeremy Allison * Jesus M. Wydanie w twardej okładce, wersja językowa - angielska In this, the third and final volume of his landmark series, award-winning author Tibor Károlyi concludes his investigation into the life and career of  Mikhail Tal , the most entertaining and popular world champion of all time. This book covers the final two decades of Tal#8217;s life and games, from 1972 until his death in 1992. Despite being more than a decade removed from his world title reign, the early 1970s saw Tal rewrite chess history with two record-breaking unbeaten streaks. Other highlights include victory in the Montreal 1979 Tournament of Champions, and winning the World Blitz Championship in 1988.Despite Tal#8217;s unbeaten streaks and more mature playing style, his attacking flair did not desert him, and the reader will find many more delightful sacrifices and creative gems from one of the most remarkable careers in chess history. As in the previous volumes, insightful chess analysis and biographical research is complemented by anecdotes from famous players who share their memories of Tal #8220;The Invincible#8221;.International Master  Tibor Károlyi  was Hungarian Champion in 1984 and is renowned as both an author and a trainer. He won the Guardian Book of the Year prize in 2007.ISBN: 978-1-907982-81-1 - 544 pages - Published 27 September 2017Reviews"Another nice touch is that Karolyi has asked many of Tal's opponents about the games they played with Tal and their impressions of Tal, which adds an extra human dimension to the book. But of course, the most important thing about all these books are the games and the analysis and for both I have only the fullest admiration. Perhaps the most impressive thing about Karolyi's annotations is that he doesn't only focus on brilliant Tal attacks, but also spends a lot of time on many of the weird and wonderful endgames that arose as a result of his sacrifices. It feels a little bit like overdoing things to give 5 stars to a set of three books, but if any Best Games collection has ever deservd it, then this one has! Don't waste any time: get down to the bookshop and enjoy!" GM Matthew Sadler , New in Chess"The title references Tal#8217;s two lengthy undefeated streaks of 95 and 86 games in the early 1970s. One might think a player with Tal#8217;s reputation as a hyper-aggressive attacking madman would preclude such streaks, but as Karolyi explains Tal was a much more knowledgeable player in the 1970s than when World Champion. The tactical brilliance which won him so many fans was still there, but reinforced by a greater understanding of the game which caused him to temper some of his more audacious gambles. All three volumes in this series feature well-annotated games, overviews of all the tournaments Tal played in, plenty of biographical material, tournament results and a number on indexes... I give this series my highest recommendation." IM John Donaldson "Károlyi's monograph about Mikhail Tal is one of the most extensive and detailed to have been published. The volumes are ideal reference works and wonderful, carefully analysed game collections." Harry Schaack , KARL magazine"Older chess players are delighted when they hear the name of Tal, but some younger ones have no idea who he was. So it is good that he should be rescued from oblivion through the trilogy by Tibor Karolyi, which is completed with The Invincible." Bab Wilders , Nederlands Dagblad

Introduction to the Clay Sanskrit Library By John Clay The great national epics of India, the Maha*bharata and the Ramayana, reached their definitive form around the beginning of the common era. By their authority and comprehensive character they dominated Hindu literature for several centuries, as familiar episodes and themes were reworked. But Buddhism and Jainism developed their own literary traditions. From early in the common era, a vast creative literature of novels, short stories, plays and poetry began to develop. Some took their subject matter from the national epics or the Buddhist scriptures, but many other sources also provided inspiration. This new literary culture was vibrant and vivid. The dramatists wrote plays about palaces full of dancing girls, and gardens where peacocks screeched at the approach of the monsoon and elephants trumpeted in the stables, eager for combat or mating. Courtiers intrigued for influence and promotion. Merchants set off on their voyages with sadness at separation, and returned with joy and vast profits. The six seasons spun by at breakneck speed. Lovers kept their trysts in the cane groves down by the river. Holy men preached that worldly pleasures were worthless, and often were exposed as hypocrites. This second flowering of a classical Sanskrit literature lasted for more than a millenium. We shall bring to a worldwide audience the entire text of the two national epics, and fifty or more titles from the heyday. We hope that readers will find much to enjoy.
