"This can be no Trick!" When Benedick overhears the news that his old flame and fiercest critic Beatrice devotedly loves him, he can scarcely believe his ears. Nor can Beatrice, when she hears her friends say that Benedick is hopelessly pining for her. Nor can Claudio, when he overhears his fiancée Hero in another man's bedroom. And now Hero is reported dead. It all adds up to another case for Constable Dogberry, perhaps the stupidest policeman on record. This manga recreation of Shakespeare's tricksiest comedy plays out its serial deceptions and counterfeits against the operatic backdrop of a later Italian landscape. But don't believe everything you hear ...§§"Much Ado About Nothing" is part of Manga Shakespeare, a series of graphic novel adaptations of William Shakespeare's plays. Drawing inspiration from Japan and using Shakespeare's original texts, this series brings to life the great Bard's words for students, Shakespeare enthusiasts and manga fans.

Much Ado About Nothing presents a battle of the sexes in more ways than one: as both a lightning-fast skirmish of wits between two famously disputatious lovers, and a near-deadly conflict built on conventions of gender and male rivalry. Claire McEachern's new introduction brings this best-seller right up to date, analysing recent developments in criticism and the latest productions of this comedy.

Opposites become allies to fool their matchmaking friends in this swoony reimagining of Shakespeare's beloved comedy, Much Ado About Nothing. Jamie Westenberg and Bea Wilmot have nothing in common except a meet-disaster and the mutual understanding that they couldn't be more wrong for each other. But when the people closest to them play Cupid and trick them into going on a date, Jamie and Bea realize they have something else in common after all - an undeniable need for revenge. Soon their plan is in place: fake date obnoxiously and convince the meddlers they're madly in love. Then, break up spectacularly and dash everyone's hopes, putting an end to the matchmaking madness once and for all. To convince everyone that they've fallen for each other, Jamie and Bea will have to nail the performance of their lives. But as their final act nears, and playing lovers becomes easier than not, they begin to wonder: what if Cupid's arrow wasn't so off the mark? And what if two wrongs do make a right? Why readers love Two Wrongs Make A Right . . .

Béatrice et Bénédict was borne of Berlioz's lifelong fascination with Shakespeare. A performance by the Shakespearean actress Harriet Smithson as Juliet in Romeo and Juliet reportedly inspired him to commence work on his own Roméo et Juliette, a large-scale dramatic symphony. He had fallen headlong in love with her after seeing her as Ophelia in 1827 and later wrote, 'I came out of Hamlet shaken to the core.'He also contemplated setting Antony and Cleopatra to music, but it was not until many years later (1860) that he settled on Shakespeare's Much Ado about Nothing. Although he had considered the idea of an opera on this play as early as 1833, it turned out to be his final opera. Berlioz produced his own libretto -- a much revised version of the story, with several of the original characters absent. It nonetheless remains faithful to Shakespeare's play.Berlioz claimed he wrote this opera to relax after the stress of completing the vast Les Troyens -- and said it was 'a caprice written with the point of a needle'. Indeed, it is scored lightly, and has a warm and gentle wit to it, ideally suited to the subject.Further information- Recording made in 1981- 'Minton's beautiful voice and her warm understanding of Berlioz's style are again evident ... Daniel Barenboim conducts with enthusiasm.' Gramophone- Booklet contains an introduction to the opera and a comprehensive synopsis of the plot- Adverts in Gramophone plus major editorial and feature coverage in the specialist classical press

Shakesqueer puts the most exciting queer theorists in conversation with the complete works of William Shakespeare. Exploring what is odd, eccentric, and unexpected in the Bard's plays and poems, these theorists highlight not only the many ways that Shakespeare can be queered, but also the many ways that Shakespeare can enrich queer theory. This innovative anthology reveals an early modern playwright insistently returning to questions of language, identity, and temporality, themes central to contemporary queer theory. Since many of the contributors do not study early modern literature, Shakesqueer takes queer theory back and brings Shakespeare forward, challenging the chronological confinement of queer theory to the last two hundred years. The book also challenges conceptual certainties that have narrowly equated queerness with homosexuality. Chasing all manner of stray desires through every one of Shakespeare's plays and poems, the contributors cross temporal, animal, theoretical, and sexual boundaries with abandon.Claiming adherence to no one school of thought, the essays consider The Winter's Tale alongside network TV, Hamlet in relation to the death drive, King John as a history of queer theory, and Much Ado About Nothing in tune with a Sondheim musical. Together they expand the reach of queerness and queer critique across chronologies, methodologies, and bodies. Michael Chekhov's Acting Technique Bloomsbury Publishing

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

The Michael Chekhov Technique: A Complete Toolkit is a guide to the Michael Chekhov acting technique for actors, directors and teachers. It provides a complete overview of the whole method, offering clear explanations of the principles, practical exercises and application of the exercises to dramatic texts. The book is both a toolkit for practitioners who have not trained in the method, as well as a comprehensive reference book for those who have. Part One explains the concept of pyscho physical acting with reference to primary texts, interviews with Chekhov practitioners and a range of sample exercises to practise on. Part Two explores the more detailed work of creating a character with a selection of examples of how to apply the psycho-physical exercises in Part One directly to character or scene work. Also included are a selection of exercises taught by other practitioners (with their permission) that were not developed by Chekhov himself in his book, but which follow his principles and yield great results: the ghost exercise (Joanna Merlin), expanding and contracting the five senses (Lenard Petit), the palace of beauty (Mel Shrawder), the belief closet (Mel Shrawder), imaginative character biography on your feet (Mel Shrawder). The book will feature the application of Michael Chekhov principles throughout to characters and scenes in Gabriel Garcia Lorca's Blood Wedding and Shakespeare's Much Ado About Nothing.
