At age nineteen, Paul Light began his ministry in evangelism and pulpit supply. He married on his 25th birthday in 1952 and eventually had two children. His first pastorate began in 1953 at Jellico, Tennessee as a bi-vocational pastor. He served there for sixteen years, during which time they built a new church building. It took nine years to complete and was debt free. In 1969 he moved his family to Cincinnati, Ohio, where he took a job as an accountant. About seven months later he became a pastor in Latonia, Kentucky where he ministered for 21 years. During that time the church building was completely renovated. Beginning in 1979 Pastor Light took a total of seven tour groups to the Holy Land. Soon after that he began missionary tours to different countries, some lasting as long as six months. The tours included preaching, building, and evangelism. His specialty, however, was teaching in Bible Colleges and Seminaries. He has made at least 40 missionary tours. Even at age 87, he is still engaged in missionary tours of teaching. During the past thirty years, Dr. Light has been writing Study Guides and Commentaries on nearly all of the books of the Bible. Some of these are variations of approaches to Bible Books such as his Comparative Gospels, the Miracles of Elijah and Elisha, The Apocalyptic Books (Daniel and Revelation) and Characters of the Old Testament. He uses his books as teaching texts for the classes he teaches both abroad and in the United States. Enjoy this Bible Study on The Life and Works of Jesus Christ.

The Silmarillion - 2871406168

The Silmarillion HarperCollins Publishers

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

Including brand-new paintings, this is a fully illustrated new edition of the forerunner to The Lord of the Rings. The Silmarillion fills in the background which lies behind the more popular work, and gives the earlier history of Middle-earth, introducing some of the key characters. The Silmarillion is the core of J.R.R.Tolkien's imaginative writing, a collection of narratives ranging in time from the Elder Days of Middle-earth, through the Second Age and the rise of Sauron, to the end of the War of the Ring. They are set in an age when Morgoth, the first Dark Lord, dwelt in Middle-earth, and the Elves made war upon him in his impenetrable fortress in Angband for the recovery of the Silmarils, three jewels containing the last remaining pure light of Valinor, seized by Morgoth and set in his iron crown. Accompanying these tales are several shorter works. The Ainulindale is a myth of the Creation and in the Valaquenta the nature and powers of the gods is described. The Akallabeth recounts the downfall of the great island kingdom of Numenor at the end of the Second Age and Of the Rings of Power tells of the great events at the end of the Third Age, as told in The Lord of the Rings. Tolkien could not publish The Silmarillion in his lifetime, as it grew with him, so he would leave it to his son, Christopher, to edit the work from many manuscripts and bring his father's great vision to publishable form, so completing the literary achievement of a lifetime. This special edition presents anew this seminal first step towards mapping out the posthumous publishing of Middle-earth, and the beginning of an illustrious forty years and more than twenty books celebrating his father's legacy. Also included is a letter by J.R.R. Tolkien written in 1951 which provides a brilliant exposition of the earlier Ages, and almost 50 full-colour paintings by Ted Nasmith, including some which appear here for the first time.

"Life is growth through experience," Saint Germain reminds us. In this compilation of transmissions of the ascended master known as Saint Germain - or "G" to many who have experienced this sage - Wesley Adam Thomas shares intimate commentaries related to his personal journey as well as guidance from G on common life challenges including "Relationships," "Gain and Loss," "Thankfulness," "Addiction," "Money," "Balance," "Personal Devastations," "Fear," and "Your Life Mission."With gentleness and compassion, Meeting Saint Germain encourages each of us to accept challenges as we develop a deeper understanding of who we are and why we are here. The book contains commentaries and guidance on many topics, for example...Finding the peace within:Today, I speak of a certain kind of peace. It levels the turbulent currents, slows the flow, and deepens the river's channel. Deep waters, low and slow, found a peaceful surface. So use meditation to dive within yourselves. Splash through the roiling surface, then go down to the quiet waters. The promise of Saint Germain: I live in service to God. It is the path down which I carry my lamp.Should any wish to follow, I will pause and light the ground before them, and as they move forward, so will my light. The power of prayer: A prayer is an appeal, a beseeching, a noble wish for the realization of one's highest intentions,an articulation of one's finest desires in hopes of manifesting them. The angels themselves cannot dismiss prayer. They must respond. Demons cringe, impotent in the presence of prayer. They must defer.Finding God within:Imagine a great sun with countless rays projecting outward, every person the advancing point of their own ray. ...The true purpose of human lifeis to discover this internal divinity and project it into the world of form. The Violet Flame: The Flame is real, not a metaphor. Seek it in your meditations.Let it blaze from uplifted palms and the third eye, a violet triangle embracing the heart.Ascension and the Golden Age:Ascension is a raised consciousness. The harvest has come, and those able to risewill ascend with Earth to the 5th dimension, enjoying greater spiritual achievementsin a New Golden Age.About the AuthorAlthough initially reluctant to see himself as a worthy channel for the magnificent Saint Germain, Wesley Adam Thomas over a period of years was enticed by the gently persistent relationship of scribe and master. The pages that resulted are lyrical and inspiring, at the same time grounded and practical, addressing the everyday dilemmas and challenges of ordinary persons on the path of ascension. In fact, Wesley was not new to channeling, having recorded messages from his Lemurian guides as early as 2002. That experience introduced him to the Violet Flame and drew him eventually to spend extended time on Mount Shasta, where this work was inspired. Wesley is a father, a teacher, a musician, and a writer whose hope is that this book will inspire a fresh audience and expand awareness of the coming era of peace.

NEW YORK TIMES BESTSELLER - NAMED ONE OF THE BEST BOOKS OF THE YEAR BY The Washington Post - Los Angeles Times - San Francisco Chronicle - Harper's Bazaar - St. Louis Post-Dispatch - The Guardian - The Kansas City Star - National Post - BookPage - Kirkus Reviews §§From Salman Rushdie, one of the great writers of our time, comes a spellbinding work of fiction that blends history, mythology, and a timeless love story. A lush, richly layered novel in which our world has been plunged into an age of unreason, Two Years Eight Months and Twenty-Eight Nights is a breathtaking achievement and an enduring testament to the power of storytelling.§§In the near future, after a storm strikes New York City, the strangenesses begin. A down-to-earth gardener finds that his feet no longer touch the ground. A graphic novelist awakens in his bedroom to a mysterious entity that resembles his own sub-Stan Lee creation. Abandoned at the mayor's office, a baby identifies corruption with her mere presence, marking the guilty with blemishes and boils. A seductive gold digger is soon tapped to combat forces beyond imagining.§§Unbeknownst to them, they are all descended from the whimsical, capricious, wanton creatures known as the jinn, who live in a world separated from ours by a veil. Centuries ago, Dunia, a princess of the jinn, fell in love with a mortal man of reason. Together they produced an astonishing number of children, unaware of their fantastical powers, who spread across generations in the human world.§§Once the line between worlds is breached on a grand scale, Dunia's children and others will play a role in an epic war between light and dark spanning a thousand and one nights-or two years, eight months, and twenty-eight nights. It is a time of enormous upheaval, in which beliefs are challenged, words act like poison, silence is a disease, and a noise may contain a hidden curse.§§Inspired by the traditional "wonder tales" of the East, Salman Rushdie's novel is a masterpiece about the age-old conflicts that remain in today's world. Two Years Eight Months and Twenty-Eight Nights is satirical and bawdy, full of cunning and folly, rivalries and betrayals, kismet and karma, rapture and redemption.§§Praise for Two Years Eight Months and Twenty-Eight Nights §§"Rushdie is our Scheherazade. . . . This book is a fantasy, a fairytale-and a brilliant reflection of and serious meditation on the choices and agonies of our life in this world." -Ursula K. Le Guin, The Guardian §§"One of the major literary voices of our time . . . In reading this new book, one cannot escape the feeling that [Rushdie's] years of writing and success have perhaps been preparation for this moment, for the creation of this tremendously inventive and timely novel." - San Francisco Chronicle §§"A wicked bit of satire . . . [Rushdie] riffs and expands on the tales of Scheherazade, another storyteller whose spinning of yarns was a matter of life and death." - USA Today §§"A swirling tale of genies and geniuses [that] translates the bloody upheavals of our last few decades into the comic-book antics of warring jinn wielding bolts of fire, mystical transmutations and rhyming battle spells." - The Washington Post §§"Great fun . . . The novel shines brightest in the panache of its unfolding, the electric grace and nimble eloquence and extraordinary range and layering of his voice." -The Boston Globe §§From the Hardcover edition.

This book provides an innovative analysis of the conditions of ancient Egyptian craftsmanship in the light of the archaeology of production, linguistic analysis, visual representation and ethnographic research.During the past decades, the "imaginative" figure of ancient Egyptian material producers has moved from "workers" to "artisans" and, most recently, to "artists". In a search for a fuller understanding of the pragmatics of material production in past societies, and moving away from a series of modern preconceptions, this volume aims to analyse the mechanisms of material production in Egypt during the Middle Bronze Age (2000-1550 BC), to approach the profile of ancient Egyptian craftsmen through their own words, images and artefacts, and to trace possible modes of circulation of ideas among craftsmen in material production. The studies in the volume address the mechanisms of ancient production in Middle Bronze Age Egypt, the circulation of ideas among craftsmen, and the profiles of the people involved, based on the material traces, including depictions and writings, the ancient craftsmen themselves left and produced.ContentsSculpture Workshops: who, where and for whom? - Simon ConnorThe Artistic Copying Network Around the Tomb of Pahery in Elkab (EK3): a New Kingdom case study - Alisee DevillersAntiquity Bound to Modernity. Leonhard Euler - 2874167739

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

This is the first full-scale biography of Leonhard Euler (1707-83), one of the greatest mathematicians and theoretical physicists of all time. In this comprehensive and authoritative account, Ronald Calinger connects the story of Euler's eventful life to the astonishing achievements that place him in the company of Archimedes, Newton, and Gauss. Drawing chiefly on Euler's massive published works and correspondence, which fill more than eighty volumes so far, this biography sets Euler's work in its multilayered context-personal, intellectual, institutional, political, cultural, religious, and social. It is a story of nearly incessant accomplishment, from Euler's fundamental contributions to almost every area of pure and applied mathematics-especially calculus, number theory, notation, optics, and celestial, rational, and fluid mechanics-to his advancements in shipbuilding, telescopes, ballistics, cartography, chronology, and music theory. The narrative takes the reader from Euler's childhood and education in Basel through his first period in St.Petersburg, 1727-41, where he gained a European reputation by solving the Basel problem and systematically developing analytical mechanics. Moving to Berlin, Euler published his famous Introductio in analysin infinitorum, devised continuum mechanics, proposed a pulse theory of light, and faced Frederick the Great. Returning to St. Petersburg in 1766, Euler created the analytical calculus of variations, developed the most precise lunar theory of the time that supported Newton's dynamics, and published the best-selling Letters to a German Princess-all despite eye problems that ended in near-total blindness. In telling Euler's remarkable story, the book also demonstrates with new depth and detail the central role of mathematics in the Enlightenment.

Chiron and the Healing Journey - 2867175190

Chiron and the Healing Journey Starwalker Press

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

A CONTEMPORARY CLASSIC. This in-depth study of the minor planet Chiron traces the development of the archetype of the Shaman, or Wounded Healer, which accompanies the soul's journey of awakening. It also demonstrates how this theme is reflected in the astronomical picture, and in turn revealed in the individual horoscope. Chiron's story in Greek mythology is explored and illuminated with skilled interpretation, and there are two large sections detailing Chiron's symbolism and meaning through the signs and houses, and aspecting the planets. The chapter on transits describes the profound process which Chiron signals as it moves around the horoscope over time. This book is essential reading for anyone seeking to shed light on the astrological symbolism and meaning of Chiron. Chiron was discovered in 1977 as a celestial anomaly, but is now in a class of its own. In the early 1990s, exciting discoveries within astronomical science revealed a new category of objects, named the `Centaurs'. Chiron is considered the major representative of this group which comprises short-orbit comets that cross the paths of the planets from Jupiter to Pluto. The symbolism of this is perfect, as Chiron stands for that luminous thread of consciousness which links the inner and outer dimensions of our human experience, helping us to make sense of our suffering in a deeply personal way, and thus to release our attachment to it. This book is a classic of original thinking, inspiration, depth of astrological experience and careful research. It has more than stood the test of time, and is appreciated by an ever-growing number of astrologers who focus on the soul's unfoldment through life experience, bitter or sweet. This book has addressed and accompanied the healing journey of many thousands of people all over the world. REVISION This edition of 'Chiron and the Healing Journey' represents a major revision of the best-selling previous editions, first published in 1989 and 1999 by Arkana, and in April 2010 in paperback by Starwalker Press. Changes include an entirely new section on the astronomy of Chiron, and how it is reflected in the mythology. The final section 'Spirit of the Age' has been rewritten to address more precisely our contemporary concerns. There is much new case material illustrating Chiron in the horoscope, and the reader is also briefly introduced to other Minor Planets in the same category as Chiron. The mythological base has also been expanded, and there is an in-depth exploration of the 'Chiron Return' which occurs at age 50, representing a major 'rite of passage' for everyone.

Volume 4 in the Oklahoma Series in Classical Culture This thought-provoking book argues the contributions of women to the earliest advances in human knowledge, especially the discovery and development of agriculture, were much greater than has generally been acknowledged. By examining skeletons and grave goods, archeological evidence from settlement sites, and rock carvings and sculpted figurines, and by drawing anthropological parallels to later societies, Ehrenberg throws new light on the lives and social status of women in Europe from the Palaeolithic era to the Iron Age. The high status almost certainly enjoyed by women as the main providers of food in early prehistoric societies probably diminished in the later Neolithic Age, as men assumed an increasingly dominant role in farming. Even so, in the Bronze Age and Iron Age societies, individual women held positions of power: Ehrenberg considers the possibility that Minoan Crete was a matriarchy and that Boudica was only one of a number of female Celtic leaders.

Leonardo Da Vinci PRASA BALTYCKA

'Isaacson's scholarship is impressive-he cites not only primary sources but secondary materials by art critics, essayists, and da Vinci's other biographers. This is a monumental tribute to a titanic figure.' - Publisher's Weekly 'To read this magnificent biography of Leonardo da Vinci is to take a tour through the life and works of one of the most extraordinary human beings of all time in the company of the most engaging, informed, and insightful guide imaginable. Walter Isaacson is at once a true scholar and a spellbinding writer. And what a wealth of lessons there are to be learned in these pages.' David McCullough Based on thousands of pages from Leonardo's astonishing notebooks and new discoveries about his life and work, Walter Isaacson weaves a narrative that connects his art to his science. He shows how Leonardo's genius was based on skills we can improve in ourselves, such as passionate curiosity, careful observation, and an imagination so playful that it flirted with fantasy. He produced the two most famous paintings in history, The Last Supper and the Mona Lisa. But in his own mind, he was just as much a man of science and technology. With a passion that sometimes became obsessive, he pursued innovative studies of anatomy, fossils, birds, the heart, flying machines, botany, geology, and weaponry. His ability to stand at the crossroads of the humanities and the sciences, made iconic by his drawing of Vitruvian Man, made him history's most creative genius. His creativity, like that of other great innovators, came from having wide-ranging passions. He peeled flesh off the faces of cadavers, drew the muscles that move the lips, and then painted history's most memorable smile. He explored the math of optics, showed how light rays strike the cornea, and produced illusions of changing perspectives in The Last Supper. Isaacson also describes how Leonardo's lifelong enthusiasm for staging theatrical productions informed his paintings and inventions. Leonardo's delight at combining diverse passions remains the ultimate recipe for creativity. So, too, does his ease at being a bit of a misfit: illegitimate, gay, vegetarian, left-handed, easily distracted, and at times heretical. His life should remind us of the importance of instilling, both in ourselves and our children, not just received knowledge but a willingness to question it-to be imaginative and, like talented misfits and rebels in any era, to think different.

The Dark Age of Greece is one of the least understood periods of Greek history. A terra incognita between the Mycenaean civilization of Late Bronze Age Greece and the flowering of Classical Greece, the Dark Age was, until the last few decades, largely neglected. Now new archaeological methods and the discovery of new evidence have made it possible to develop a more comprehensive view of the entire period. "Citadel to City-State" explores each century from 1200 to 700 B.C.E. through an individual site Mycenae, Nichoria, Athens, Lefkandi, Corinth, and Ascra that illustrates the major features of each period. This is a remarkable account of the historical detective work that is beginning to shed light on Dark Age Greece.
