Opis - Pierwsze na świecie świadectwo ofiary zbrodni honorowej. Miała siedemnaście lat i zakochała się: zhańbiła rodzinę. Więc rodzina wydała na nią wyrok śmierci... Pokochała go pierwszą miłością. Myślała, że się z nią ożeni. Ale ukochany zniknął, a ona odkryła, że jest w ciąży. A w jej świecie to najcięższa zbrodnia... Wyrok wydaje jej ojciec. Szwagier dokonuje egzekucji. Oblewa Souad benzyną i podpala... Think and Grow Rich INGRAM INTERNATIONAL

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

§Think and Grow Rich has been called the "Granddaddy of All Motivational Literature." It was the first book to boldly ask, "What makes a winner?" The man who asked and listened for the answer, Napoleon Hill, is now counted in the top ranks of the world's winners himself. §The most famous of all teachers of success spent "a fortune and the better part of a lifetime of effort" to produce the "Law of Success" philosophy that forms the basis of his books and that is so powerfully summarized in this one.§In the original Think and Grow Rich , published in 1937, Hill draws on stories of Andrew Carnegie, Thomas Edison, Henry Ford, and other millionaires of his generation to illustrate his principles. In the updated version, Arthur R. Pell, Ph.D., a nationally known author, lecturer, and consultant in human resources management and an expert in applying Hill's thought, deftly interweaves anecdotes of how contemporary millionaires and billionaires, such as Bill Gates, Mary Kay Ash, Dave Thomas, and Sir John Templeton, achieved their wealth. Outmoded or arcane terminology and examples are faithfully refreshed to preclude any stumbling blocks to a new generation of readers.§

Opis - This is almost unknown, lovely, unfailingly melodious late-Romantic chamber music, a treat for anyone who values the wistful themes, powerful developments and mahogany textures of Brahms and his contemporaries. Indeed Robert Fuchs became a good friend of Brahms, and elicited the older man's praise (remarkable in itself given his famously caustic opinions of his contemporaries) for "beautiful, perfectly written music, fascinating in its inventiveness and always pleasant." Fuchs was of a late generation, however, and his music moves forward into the 20th century, not with the bold iconoclasm of the Second Viennese School but the urgent post-Romanticism of Korngold and Goldmark. Composed in 1915, Op.103 is the last of his six violin sonatas and dedicated to no less than Adolf Busch, perhaps the most sublime chamber musician in recorded history to judge from his work with his own quartet and pianists such as Artur Rubinstein. For Busch to champion Fuchs"s work should indicate something of its real and lasting qualities. Of the three movements that make up the sonata, the first two are particularly rich in musical elements that prefigure the language of certain later composers, such as Sibelius and Strauss. The Op.115 trio is scored for piano, violin and (unusually) viola, for which there are certain precedents written by Mozart and Schumann. Perhaps most notable to us now is its resemblance, at least in certain harmonic twists and the intensity of its development, to the much grander works of Gustav Mahler. In fact Mahler was an early pupil of Fuchs, but the trio is written after Gustav had died of heart disease in 1911, his reputation already assured to posterity in a way that Fuchs" was not. The 6 Phantasiestücke Op.117 for viola and piano were Fuchs"s last works, composed during the final year of his life, 1927. Although the title naturally brings Schumann to mind, in terms of content these pieces have more in common with the four collections of piano works written by Brahms in 1892. They appear to express a sort of detachment from the world and the fraught events of the period, as though the composer were withdrawing into himself to look back with Straussian nostalgia. Late, late Romanticism in sweet bloom. Robert Fuchs (1847-1927) was born in Austria near the border of Slovenia. He went to Vienna for his musical education and became a close friend of Johannes Brahms, who expressed himself very favourably about his music ("beautiful, perfectly written and fascinating in its inventiveness"). Later Fuchs became Director of the Vienna Conservatory, and teacher of an impressive array of students: Mahler, Zemlinsky, Schreker, Sibelius, Schmidt, Enescu, Wolf" Fuchs? chamber music reflects the musical atmosphere of late 19th century Vienna: highly expressive, wide tonality, extensive use of chromatism. Excellent performances by three young Italians: pianist Enrico Maria Polimanti, violinist Giulio Plotino, violist Claudio Cavaletti: committed and passionate playing! News Notes of California Libraries, Vol. 23 (Classic Reprint) Forgotten Books

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

Excerpt from News Notes of California Libraries, Vol. 23 It is the dream of every book lover, and I am sure of every librarian charged with the duty of forming a good working collection of things printed, to visit the shops of the European continent. But if one were required to limit his field in a geographical sense there is no doubt that quite unhesitatingly the British Isles would be chosen. There is a certain novelty, a sort of rare fillip to the thought of hunting incunabula in Germany where printing began, or in Italy where in the early days the art was so consummately practiced. Rich rewards are probably still to be had for the searcher who digs into the shops of France with their books charmingly illustrated in the French manner. No doubt, too, the persistent power over the stuff in the stalls along the quays of the Seine will be able, like the sourdough in the diggings at more or less rare intervals, to turn up nuggets enough to keep him hopeful if not altogether happy. But for those of us whose linguistic powers are more or less limited, who, despite the supposition to the contrary, do "read for the story," book hunting in English and Scotch coverts promises the better sport. The bibliographical journals, both here and abroad, would at times have us believe that England is becoming, in a bookish sense, another old Mother Hubbard's cupboard; and not infrequently certain rumblings were heard which were perhaps mistaken for deep noted protests on the part of the British bulldog over the condition of his larder. Now it may be true that Shakespeare quartos and folios do not grow on every bush - they never did; and it is true that many copies of these treasures of our common language have been uprooted from their indigenous soil and have been transplanted to a newer land where they feel comfortably at home, and what is more important give inspiration to a kindred people. Caxtons, too, have taken wing and demonstrated the power of a book to reverse Colonel Lindbergh's feat. Even Dr Sam Johnson's dictionary and his other works may be less plentiful in the London where he arbitrated, now that A. Edward Newton and his disciples have given a new push to the growing snowball of the old lexicographer's popularity. Dove's Press items are not so cheap or so often come upon as they were before America grew very rich and began to exchange gold for that which maketh a man wise. But do not believe too implicitly the story that the little Island is no longer the bookman's game preserve where hunting is good. The rarer items were always scarce. Gutenberg Bibles when they were fresh from the press would not have supplied a small Sunday school with texts. Time, accident, fire, war and pure ignorance have destroyed good books in all ages; and probably our own era on that score does not have a lily white record. But economic conditions have changed, often to be sure to the discomfiture of individuals and families. England has found the after world war struggle bitter. Great estates have been broken up, and institutions which seemed to our overseas kinsmen so essential a part of their scheme of things have been greatly modified. Books and other possessions which formed such a pleasing background to the life of a people have come into the market, and let us believe have more clearly demonstrated their commercial as well as their intellectual value. And there can be no doubt that in the change of ownership, often from private to public hands, the printed word is fulfilling its destiny, is making richer and wiser, let us hope better, the multitude which in the ages to come will press on to higher planes. It is clear, however, that the rarities hastily named in the foregoing sentences, together with their myriad fellows, are not for the librarians on a budget; they are the preserved pheasants of long pursed hunters like the late Henry E. Huntington, o

Inner Life Read Books

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

THE INISTIR LIFE by RUFUS M. JONES. Originally published in 1917. INTRODUCTION: THERE is no inner life that is not also an outer life. To withdraw from the stress and strain of practical action and from the complication of problems into the quiet cell of the inner life in order to build its domain undisturbed is the sure way to lose the inner life. The finest of all the mystical writers of the fourteenth century the author of Theologia Ger manica knew this as fully as we of this psychologically trained generation know it. He intensely desired a rich inner life, but he saw that to be beautiful within he must live a radiant and effective life in the world of men and events. I would fain be, he says, to the eternal God what a mans hand is to a man i. e. he seeks, with all the eagerness of his glowing nature, to be an efficient instrument of God in the world. In the practice of the presence of God, the presence itself becomes more sure and indubitable. Re ligion does not consist of inward thrills and private enjoyment of God it does not terminate in beatific vision. It is rather the joyous business of carrying the Life of God into the lives of men of being to the eternal God what a mans hand is to a man. There is no one exclusive way either to the supreme realities or to the loftiest experiences of life. The way which we individuals select and proclaim as the only highway of the soul back to its true home turns out to be a revelation of our own private selves fully as much as it is a revelation of a via sacra to the one goal of all human striving. Life is a very rich and complex affair and it forever floods over and inundates any feature which we pick out as essential or as pivotal to its consummation. God so completely over arches all that is and He is so genuinely the fulfillment of all which appears in complete and potential that we cannot conceivably insist that there shall be only one way of approach from the multiplic ity of the life which we know to the infinite Being whom we seek. Most persons are strangely prone to use the principle of parsimony. They appear to have a kind of fascination for the dilemma of either-or alternatives. Faith or works is one of these great historic alternatives. But this cleavage is too artificial for full-rounded reality. Each of these halves cries for its other, and there cannot be any great salvation until we rise from the poverty of either half to the richness of the united whole which includes both ways. So, too, we have had the alternative of outer or inner way forced upon us. We are told that the only efficacious way is the way of the cross, treated as an outer historical transaction and we have, again, been told that there is noway except the inner way of direct ex perience and inner revelation. There are those who say, with one of George Chap mans characters Ill build all inward not a light shall ope The common out-way. Ill therefore live in dark and all my light Like ancient temples, let in at my top. Over against the mystic who glories in the infinite depths of his own soul, the evangelical, with excessive humility, allows not even a spark of native grandeur to the soul and denies that the inner way leads to anything but will-o-the-wisps. This is a very inept and unnecessary halving of what should be a whole. It spoils religious Hfe, somewhat as the execution of Solomons proposal would have spoiled for both mothers the living child that was to be divided. Twenty five hundred years ago Heraclitus of Ephesus declared that there is a way up and a way down and both are one...
