Opis - Pierwsze na świecie świadectwo ofiary zbrodni honorowej. Miała siedemnaście lat i zakochała się: zhańbiła rodzinę. Więc rodzina wydała na nią wyrok śmierci... Pokochała go pierwszą miłością. Myślała, że się z nią ożeni. Ale ukochany zniknął, a ona odkryła, że jest w ciąży. A w jej świecie to najcięższa zbrodnia... Wyrok wydaje jej ojciec. Szwagier dokonuje egzekucji. Oblewa Souad benzyną i podpala... Scholarly Essay from the year 2010 in the subject Philosophy - Miscellaneous, grade: -, -, language: English, comment: A conference paper on theodicy from the panentheistc point of view. , abstract: The paper aims to provide a panentheistic perspective on the problem of evil and suffering. First the connection between the notion of God and good and evil is established. Further a definition of evil as something, which causes suffering together with its implications is given. Subsequently the notion of moral evil and physical evil is provided, followed by the three classical views on evil, which are: (1) there is no evil; (2) God is responsible for evil; (3) humans are responsible for evil. Finally the panentheistic view on God is introduced, who is considered as a system (sys0) consisting of numerous dynamic subsystems (sys1-n). Consequently God is both impassible, being as sys0 in equilibrium, and empathic with all dynamic subsystems (sys1-n), where, due to His immanence, He is present. The concluding part shows the meaning of suffering in Christian doctrine of Redemption and Co-Redemption.

Excerpt from Report on Migration From Rural Districts in England and Wales, 1913 At the request of the Dominions Eoyal Commission the Board have made enquiries with a view to ascertain to what extent migration is now, and has recently been, takingplace from rural districts, more particularly by that part of the population which is engag-ed in agriculture. The questions on which the Commission especially requested information were the following: - 1. Whether there is actually any deficiency in the supply of rural labour in different districts; and, if so, 2. the extent of such deficiency; 3. whether it is more marked in the case of skilled and trained labour or of young and untrained hands; and 4. whether it is attributable to recent emigration abroad or whether it arises mainly from the transfer of population to towns in this country. A schedule of enquiry (see Appendix) was sent in May last by the Board to - (a) the Boards Agricultural Correspondents; (b)the Boards Crop Reporters; (c)the Boards Market Reporters; (d)Secretaries of Chambers of Agriculture and other bodies in association with the Central Chamber of Agriculture; (e)Secretaries of a large number of co-operative and other bodies affiliated to the Agricultural Organisation Society. Four of the Small Holdings Commissioners also furnished information. The replies fall under three main headings: - 1.Employment in agriculture and supply of agricultural labour. 2. The extent, cause, and direction of migration. 3. Special instances of migration and general observations. It may be well to recall the general facts as to the movement of the rural population during the decade 1901-11, as shown by the recently published Census Report Cd.6258. The decennial increase percent, of the whole population was 1089, being the lowest recorded in any decennium since the first Census in 1801. The rate of increase in 21 counties classed as commercial and industrial was 118 percent., as compared with 134 percent. Innovation from Differentiation Forgotten Books

Excerpt from Innovation From Differentiation: Pollution Control Departments and Innovation in the Printed Circuit Industry Organizational theorists, industry professionals and policy analysts predict that firms tend to respond to environmental regulation by creating pollution control departments to span the boundary between the organization and the surrounding society. Theory predicts that these departments will insulate the firm from changing conditions and either 1) cause continuance of efficient operations, or 2) prevent adaptation to new conditions. In an empirical study, I find that in some firms pollution control departments act not as insulators, but as information and innovation conduits, and thereby help improve the production process. I find that pollution control departments have access to unique data from inside and outside of the organization, and that this information derives in part from their specialized role. Thus, I propose that organizations that have boundary-spanning units and allow these units extensive communication with the rest of the organization have the highest performance relative to both existing (i.e. cost and quality) and new (i.e. environmental) criteria. Introduction Many companies now face challenges of both tougher global competition and more stringent requirements to protect the natural environment. Some firms like Union Carbide have responded by creating separate departments and functions to mediate between the firm and environmental regulators, while others like 3M and DOW Chemical have attempted to integrate pollution control responsibility into existing organizational roles [1-3]. Theory suggests that these two approaches present a dilemma: a separate department allows scale efficiencies, controlled risk, and efficient production, while an integrated approach allows the firm to learn and adapt to new conditions [4-7]. Whatever their view of the effect of such departments, these theories predict that most firms will respond to changing environmental conditions by forming specialized pollution control departments, and that once created, these departments will have little interaction with the rest of the firm and little role in process innovation [4, 7, 8]. This paper investigates the role of pollution control departments in information transfer and process innovation. The twelve printed circuit fabrication firms studied all responded to increased regulation by creating organizationally separate pollution control departments, and these departments reported initially having little interaction (measured as communication) with the rest of the organization. In spite of these initial relations, over time some pollution control departments came to interact frequently with the rest of the organization. These pollution control departments often provided information and innovation ideas to process engineers that resulted in process improvement (relative to cost, quality and capability). Pollution control departments were able to make these process improvements because they had unique information, and that this information derived in part from their specialized role. Finally, I propose that a balance between separation and integration may lead both to better process performance (cost and quality) and to better environmental performance. Theoretical Background Pollution control departments span the boundary between the organization and its surroundings. Organizational theory provides four main perspectives on the effect and behavior of such boundary-spanning departments. Thompson [4] claims that such departments allow organizations to remain efficient in the face of changing business conditions, while Bums and Stalker's work [5] suggests that such organizational structures may reduce adaptability. Proponents of "lean production" or "total quality" argue that such

Wissenschaftlicher Aufsatz aus dem Jahr 2012 im Fachbereich Theologie - Systematische Theologie, Note: -, -, Sprache: Deutsch, Abstract: Transdisciplinarity is possible only by developing a common meta-level for all disciplines involved. A meta-level containing the knowledge of things divine and human has been known for centuries as wisdom. Wisdom, however, in the latter meaning assumes a higher dimension in which our human world only participates. The aim of this paper is to depict a panentheistic conception of God and world which I would like to name the emergentist theism . The second part of the paper gives reasons for the emphasis of God s transcendence within the Western theism, such as: (1) the transcendent view of God/gods present within the Old Testament and the Greek religious tradition; (2) the philosophical context of Platonism of the rising Jewish and Christian theism. The third part shows how Aristotle s physics, especially his conception of the First Unmoved Mover, exerted influence on the theological conception of God s transcendence being present both in Protestant and Catholic Tradition. Because of the Thomistic influence exerted first on the theology of the Counter Reformation, than on Modern Scholastic and finally on Neo-Scholasticism, this Aristotelian view remained, predominant within the Catholic Tradition up to the Second Vatican Council. The fourths part of the paper depicts how the rise of modern panentheism was influenced by Neo-Scholasticism, Darwinism and German idealism and why, therefore, some panentheists identified the traditional theism with the Neo-Scholastic, i.e. the Aristotelian conception of God. The fifths part gives an introduction into the philosophical and theological monism. By the first I mean the conception of deriving of the many from one principle, by the letter the view of the emergence of creatures from God through Logos. In this conception, which I call the emergentist theism , God is not outside but within the creation which expresses and reveals Himself even to Himself. The sixth and last part of the paper shows, in a very short sketch, that some traces of this conception of God s immanence can be found in the writings of: Justin the Martyr, Clemens Alexandrinus, Origen, Gregory of Nyssa, Gregory of Nazianz, Basil of Cesarea, Pseudo-Denys, Maximus Confessor and Gregory Palamas.

MECHANIKA

The academic year 2004/2005 is a very special year in our Alma Mater because of its 100` anniversary and the 60th anniversary of Gdansk University of Technology as a Polish technical university including the Faculty of Mechanical Engineering. For that reason the published book is a contribution to the celebration of the mentioned anniversaries. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering was formed in 1992 as a result of uniting the Faculty of Machine Construction and the Faculty of Machine Technology. It is divided into 11 departments which actually cover the whole range of mechanical engineering reflected in the scope of the presented book. The Faculty of Mechanical Engineering has all academic rights. The Faculty Council is authorized to confer PhD and DSc degrees and may apply for the title of professor of technical sciences. In view of the above, a part of the topics presented in the book results from the scopes carried out within the DSc courses. Since 1996 the Faculty has been running a PhD course on "Contemporary Technologies and Energy Conversion". Some of the chapters of the presented book are based on the results of the completed PhD theses. The employees of the Faculty are involved in obtaining financial resources both domestic - from the Committee of Scientific Research, and European - within the 5th and 6th EU programme. The study of many problems presented in the book has been sponsored by the mentioned institutions. The present publication, apart from the documentation of the most important results of the research run by the Faculty over the recent years, is also intended for potential foreign partners in the new historic situation when Poland became a rightful member of the European Union.  Spis treści:   Preface Part I. Works of Washington Irving, Vol. 1 of 2 (Classic Reprint) Forgotten Books

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

Excerpt from The Works of Washington Irving, Vol. 1 of 2 Account of the Author. It was some time, if I recollect right, in the early part of the autumn of 1808, that a stranger applied for lodgings at the Independent Columbian Hotel, in Mulberry street, of which I am landlord. He was a small, brisk-looking old gentleman, dressed in a rusty black coat, a pair of olive velvet breeches, and a small cocked hat. He had a few gray hairs plaited and clubbed behind, and his beard seemed to be of some eight and forty hours growth. The only piece of finery which he bore about him was a bright pair of square silver shoe-buckles, and all his baggage was contained in a pair of saddle-bags, which he carried under his arm. His whole appearance was something out of the common run; and my wife, who is a very shrewd body, at once set him down for some eminent country school master. As the Independent Columbian Hotel is a very small house, I was a little puzzled at first where to put him; but my wife, who seemed taken with his looks, would needs put him in her best chamber, which is genteelly set off with the profiles of the whole family done in black, by those two great painters, Jarvis and Wood, and commands a very pleasant view of the new grounds on the Collect, together with the rear of the Poorhouse and Bridewell, and the full front of the Hospital; so that it is the cheerfullest room in the whole house. During the whole time that he stayed with us we found him a very worthy good sort of an old gentleman, though a little queer in his ways. He would keep in his room for days together, and if any of the children cried, or made a noise about his door, he would bounce out in a great passion, with his hands full of papers, and say something about "deranging his ideas;" which made my wife believe sometimes that he was not altogether compos. Indeed there was more than one reason to make her think so, for his room was always covered with scraps of paper and old mouldy books, lying about at sixes and sevens, which he would never let any body touch; for he said he had laid them all away in their proper places, so that he might know where to find them; though, for that matter, he was half his time worrying about the house in search of some book or writing which he had carefully put out of the way. I shall never forget what a pother he once made, because my wife cleaned out his room when his back was turned, and put every thing to rights; for he swore he would never be able to get his papers in order again in a twelvemonth. Upon this my wife ventured to ask him, what he did with so many books and papers? and he told her, that he was "seeking for immortality;" which made her think more than ever that the poor old gentleman's head was a little cracked. XSLT 2.0 and XPath 2.0 Programmer's Reference - 2826757129

XSLT 2.0 and XPath 2.0 Programmer's Reference Wiley

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

This book is primarily a practical reference book for professional XSLT developers. It assumes no previous knowledge of the language, and many developers have used it as their first introduction to XSLT; however, it is not structured as a tutorial, and there are other books on XSLT that provide a gentler approach for beginners. The book does assume a basic knowledge of XML, HTML, and the architecture of the Web, and it is written for experienced programmers. There's no assumption that you know any particular language such as Java or Visual Basic, just that you recognize the concepts that all programming languages have in common. The book is suitable both for XSLT 1.0 users upgrading to XSLT 2.0, and for newcomers to XSLT. The book is also equally suitable whether you work in the Java or .NET world. As befits a reference book, a key aim is that the coverage should be comprehensive and authoritative. It is designed to give you all the details, not just an overview of the 20 percent of the language that most people use 80 percent of the time. It's designed so that you will keep coming back to the book whenever you encounter new and challenging programming tasks, not as a book that you skim quickly and then leave on the shelf. If you like detail, you will enjoy this book; if not, you probably won't. But as well as giving the detail, this book aims to explain the concepts, in some depth. It's therefore a book for people who not only want to use the language but who also want to understand it at a deep level. The book aims to tell you everything you need to know about the XSLT 2.0 language. It gives equal weight to the things that are new in XSLT 2.0 and the things that were already present in version 1.0. The book is about the language, not about specific products. However, there are appendices about Saxon (the author's own implementation of XSLT 2.0), about the Altova XSLT 2.0 implementation, and about the Java and Microsoft APIs for controlling XSLT transformations, which will no doubt be upgraded to handle XSLT 2.0 as well as 1.0. A third XSLT 2.0 processor, Gestalt, was released shortly before the book went to press, too late to describe it in any detail. But the experience of XSLT 1.0 is that there has been a very high level of interoperability between different XSLT processors, and if you can use one of them, then you can use them all. In the previous edition we split XSLT 2.0 and XPath 2.0 into separate volumes. The idea was that some readers might be interested in XPath alone. However, many bought the XSLT 2.0 book without its XPath companion and were left confused as a result; so this time, the material is back together. The XPath reference information is in self-contained chapters, so it should still be accessible when you use XPath in contexts other than XSLT. The book does not cover XSL Formatting Objects, a big subject in its own right. Nor does it cover XML Schemas in any detail. If you want to use these important technologies in conjunction with XSLT, there are other books that do them justice. This book contains twenty chapters and eight appendixes (the last of which is a glossary) organized into four parts. The following section outlines what you can find in each part, chapter, and appendix. Part I: Foundations: The first part of the book covers essential concepts. You should read these before you start coding. If you ignore this advice, as most people do, then you read them when you get to that trough of despair when you find it impossible to make the language do anything but the most trivial tasks. XSLT is different from other languages, and to make it work for you, you need to understand how it was designed to be used. Chapter 1: XSLT in Context: This chapter explains how XSLT fits into the big picture: how the language came into being and how it sits alongside other technologies. It also has a few simple coding examples to keep you alert. Chapter 2: The XSLT Processing Model: This is about the architecture of an XSLT processor: the inputs, the outputs, and the data model. Understanding the data model is perhaps the most important thing that distinguishes an XSLT expert from an amateur; it may seem like information that you can't use immediately, but it's knowledge that will stop you making a lot of stupid mistakes. Chapter 3: Stylesheet Structure: XSLT development is about writing stylesheets, and this chapter takes a bird's eye view of what stylesheets look like. It explains the key concepts of rule-based programming using templates, and explains how to undertake programming-in-the-large by structuring your application using modules and pipelines. Chapter 4: Stylesheets and Schemas: A key innovation in XSLT 2.0 is that stylesheets can take advantage of knowledge about the structure of your input and output documents, provided in the form of an XML Schema. This chapter provides a quick overview of XML Schema to describe its impact on XSLT development. Not everyone uses schemas, and you can skip this chapter if you fall into that category. Chapter 5: The Type System: XPath 2.0 and XSLT 2.0 offer strong typing as an alternative to the weak typing approach of the 1.0 languages. This means that you can declare the types of your variables, functions, and parameters, and use this information to get early warning of programming errors. This chapter explains the data types available and the mechanisms for creating user-defined types. Part II: XSLT and XPath Reference: This section of the book contains reference material, organized in the hope that you can easily find what you need when you need it. It's not designed for sequential reading, though you might well want to leaf through the pages to discover what's there. Chapter 6: XSLT Elements: This monster chapter lists all the XSLT elements you can use in a stylesheet, in alphabetical order, giving detailed rules for the syntax and semantics of each element, advice on usage, and examples. This is probably the part of the book you will use most frequently as you become an expert XSLT user. It's a "no stone unturned" approach, based on the belief that as a professional developer you need to know what happens when the going gets tough, not just when the wind is in your direction. Chapter 7: XPath Fundamentals: This chapter explains the basics of XPath: the low-level constructs such as literals, variables, and function calls. It also explains the context rules, which describe how the evaluation of XPath expressions depends on the XSLT processing context in which they appear. Chapter 8: XPath: Operators on Items: XPath offers the usual range of operators for performing arithmetic, boolean comparison, and the like. However, these don't always behave exactly as you would expect, so it's worth reading this chapter to see what's available and how it differs from the last language that you used. Chapter 9: XPath: Path Expressions: Path expressions are what make XPath special; they enable you to navigate around the structure of an XML document. This chapter explains the syntax of path expressions, the 13 axes that you can use to locate the nodes that you need, and associated operators such as union, intersection, and difference. Chapter 10: XPath: Sequence Expressions: Unlike XPath 1.0, in version 2.0 all values are sequences (singletons are just a special case). Some of the most important operators in XPath 2.0 are those that manipulate sequences, notably the "for" expression, which translates one sequence into another by applying a mapping. Chapter 11: XPath: Type Expressions: The type system was explained in Chapter 5; this chapter explains the operations that you can use to take advantage of types. This includes the "cast" operation which is used to convert values from one type to another.A big part of this chapter is devoted to the detailed rules for how these conversions are done. Chapter 12: XSLT Patterns: This chapter returns from XPath to a subject that's specific to XSLT. Patterns are used to define template rules, the essence of XSLT's rule-based programming approach. The reason for explaining them now is that the syntax and semantics of patterns depends strongly on the corresponding rules for XPath expressions. Chapter 13: The Function Library: XPath 2.0 includes a library of functions that can be called from any XPath expression; XSLT 2.0 extends this with some additional functions that are available only when XPath is used within XSLT. The library has grown immensely since XPath 1.0. This chapter provides a single alphabetical reference for all these functions. Chapter 14: Regular Expressions: Processing of text is an area where XSLT 2.0 and XPath 2.0 are much more powerful than version 1.0, and this is largely through the use of constructs that exploit regular expressions. If you're familiar with regexes from languages such as Perl, this chapter tells you how XPath regular expressions differ. If you're new to the subject, it explains it from first principles. Chapter 15: Serialization: Serialization in XSLT means the ability to generate a textual XML document from the tree structure that's manipulated by a stylesheet. This isn't part of XSLT processing proper, so (following W3C's lead) it's separated it into its own chapter. You can control serialization from the stylesheet using an declaration, but many products also allow you to control it directly via an API. Part III: Exploitation: The final section of the book is advice and guidance on how to take advantage of XSLT to write real applications. It's intended to make you not just a competent XSLT coder, but a competent designer too. The best way of learning is by studying the work of others, so the emphasis here is on practical case studies. Chapter 16: Extensibility: This chapter describes the "hooks" provided in the XSLT specification to allow vendors and users to plug in extra functionality. The way this works will vary from one implementation to another, so we can't cover all possibilities, but one important aspect that the chapter does cover is how to use such extensions and still keep your code portable. Chapter 17: Stylesheet Design Patterns: This chapter explores a number of design and coding patterns for XSLT programming, starting with the simplest "fill-in-the-blanks" stylesheet, and extending to the full use of recursive programming in the functional programming style, which is needed to tackle problems of any computational complexity. This provides an opportunity to explain the thinking behind functional programming and the change in mindset needed to take full advantage of this style of development. Chapter 18: Case Study: XMLSpec: XSLT is often used for rendering documents, so where better to look for a case study than the stylesheets used by the W3C to render the XML and XSLT specifications, and others in the same family, for display on the web? The resulting stylesheets are typical of those you will find in any publishing organization that uses XML to develop a series of documents with a compatible look-and-feel. Chapter 19: Case Study: A Family Tree: Displaying a family tree is another typical XSLT application. This example with semi-structured data-a mixture of fairly complex data and narrative text-that can be presented in many different ways for different audiences. It also shows how to tackle another typical XSLT problem, conversion of the data into XML from a legacy text-based format. As it happens, this uses nearly all the important new XSLT 2.0 features in one short stylesheet. But another aim of this chapter is to show a collection of stylesheets doing different jobs as part of a complete application. Chapter 20: Case Study: Knight's Tour: Finding a route around a chessboard where a knight visits every square without ever retracing its steps might sound a fairly esoteric application for XSLT, but it's a good way of showing how even the most complex of algorithms are within the capabilities of the language. You may not need to tackle this particular problem, but if you want to construct an SVG diagram showing progress against your project plan, then the problems won't be that dissimilar. Part IV: Appendices: A ppendix A: XPath 2.0 Syntax Summary: Collects the XPath grammar rules and operator precedences into one place for ease of reference. Appendix B: Error Codes: A list of all the error codes defined in the XSLT and XPath language specifications, with brief explanations to help you understand what's gone wrong. Appendix C: Backward Compatibility: The list of things you need to look out for when converting applications from XSLT 1.0. Appendix D: Microsoft XSLT Processors: Although the two Microsoft XSLT processors don't yet support XSLT 2.0, we thought many readers would find it useful to have a quick summary here of the main objects and methods used in their APIs. Appendix E: JAXP: the Java API for XML Processing: JAXP is an interface rather than a product. Again, it doesn't have explicit support yet for XSLT 2.0, but Java programmers will often be using it in XSLT 2.0 projects, so the book includes an overview of the classes and methods available. Appendix F: Saxon: At the time of writing Saxon (developed by the author of this book) provides the most comprehensive implementation of XSLT 2.0 and XPath 2.0, so its interfaces and extensions are covered in some detail. Appendix G: Altova: Altova, the developers of XML Spy, have an XSLT 2.0 processor that can be used either as part of the development environment or as a freestanding component. This appendix gives details of its interfaces. Appendix H: Glossary Note: CD-ROM/DVD and other supplementary materials are not included as part of eBook file.

ABC of the English Opening. A Complete Repertoire for White, DVD-ROM ChessBase

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

It is easy to understand why the English opening is very popular at all levels, from club player up to Grandmaster level. The variations are less forcing and superior chess skill is required to outwit your opponents in the middlegame. In the English, white plays 1.c4 and fianchettos the white kings bishop to g2. Like all good chess openings, this fights for control of the centre and posts the English Bishop on the long diagonal g2-a8. Many people view the opening as rather dull, but this is a misnomer-in fact, there are many sharp pawn sacrifices and attacking lines which have been found in recent times which give the opening some bite. As such, the English Opening is an opening that can suit a wide range of playing styles. Success in the English is based upon understanding the plans and ideas available within this interesting opening. The games in this DVD will provide with exactly that-the armoury to play the English Opening as white with confidence! "Dear PHP, It's over between us. You can keep the kitchen sink, but I want my MVC. With TurboGears, I was able to shed the most heinous FileMaker Pro legacy 'solu-tion' imaginable. It has relationships based on fields that change frequently, causing 'disappearing data.' I replaced it with an easy to maintain TurboGears application. Defunkifying and normalizing many years worth of munged data took twice as long as developing the TurboGears's application itself. TurboGears's excellent set of tools and best-of-breed approach makes it so easy to build applications quickly." -Isaac Csandl, Manager of Information Technology, Chicago Legal Search, Ltd. "TurboGears has resulted in significant time savings for rPath. Before it was released, we ex-pected to spend significant time building a Web framework for our rPath Appliance Agent product. TurboGears sharpens our focus on building a quality application; it allows us to provide more value to our customers, rather than reinventing the Web wheel." -Michael K. Johnson, rPath Founding Engineer and Coauthor of Linux Application Development, Second Edition "I think this is the first time that a Web framework's functionality has been so obvious." -Bruce Eckel, Author of Thinking in Java and Thinking in C++ "TurboGears helped me build more complex Web applications more quickly and with fewer headaches than any other framework I've used. Just like Python itself, it made me more productive with a minimal learning curve." -Quentin Hartman, System Administrator "TurboGears has changed the way I develop Web applications, from model, to view, to controller. Thanks to the power of TurboGears, I was able to develop the first version of WhatWhat in less than a week of my spare time." -Jonathan LaCour, Development Team Lead, Optio "TurboGears has provided a way for me to greatly enhance my productivity by real-izing the potential of Web-based agile development with Python." -Brandon Goldfedder, Vice President of Engineering, Information Extraction and Transport (IET Inc.), and Author of The Joy of Patterns "TurboGears really changed the way I schedule project releases: It allows me to deliver them faster and with better quality than when I used to use GUI toolkits." -Jorge Godoy, Owner of G2C Tech Consultoria in Brazil, former Lead Developer for Conectiva documentation team "With TurboGears, I was able to transition my Python projects into Web applications as easily as possible." -Benjamin T. Hamilton, Software Engineer "Norwegian-based company Scanmine AS makes extensive use of Python and Turbo-Gears in all parts of its operation. TurboGears makes it a breeze to build highly sophis-ticated Web 2.0 applications with out-of-the-box features for multiple languages with full Unicode, REST, AJAX, RSS/Atom, and more. This enables Scanmine to put a face on their technology development in a minimal amount of time. "It has been said that there are as many Web frameworks as there are Python Web programmers. This apparent Web framework fragmentation has long been perceived as a weakness, until TurboGears came along and turned weakness into strength." -Rune Hansen, Senior Systems Designer, Scanmine AS "TurboGears is a well thought-out framework; the design choices it has made will help you be more productive. TurboGears will give you confidence with its foundation of stable best-of-breed Python components. If you are coming from other languages, consider working in TurboGears and Python to bring fun back into your Web develop-ment work." -Jeff Marshall, Partner with FrozenBear "When we started developing Oprius Foundations with TurboGears, we weren't sure if it really would help us develop quicker and higher-quality code. After two months, we had a task manager to rival Tada List. After seven months, we had an entire contact management system to compete with the big boys." -Jason Chu, Lead Developer, Oprius Software Inc. "Conventional programming wisdom states that rewriting any working project from scratch is a bad idea. TurboGears was good enough to convince me to do this anyway, and I have been nothing but thrilled with the results. With TurboGears, I was able to implement an AJAX-based Web site with a nice Web API more easily than I ever thought possible. If you are trying to do either of those in Python, you owe it to your-self to look at this project. Using TurboGears was one of the few times in my program-ming career where a task was significantly less complicated than I thought possible." -Adam Jones, Lead Programmer, RecursiveThought Software Master TurboGears: The Easy Python Framework for Rapid Web Development TurboGears harnesses the power of Python to provide a dynamic and easy-to-use Web development framework: one that dramatically increases developer productivity, and makes it far easier to create dynamic, user-friendly, Ajax-enabled Web applications. Now, for the first time, there's a definitive guide to TurboGears-coauthored by its creator, Kevin Dangoor. This book will help experienced Web developers get productive with TurboGears-fast. You'll quickly build your first TurboGears Web application-then extend it one step at a time, mastering the underlying libraries that make these enhancements possible. Next, the authors demonstrate TurboGears at work in a real-world application, by examining the code for "WhatWhat Status," an open source project status tracking application. Finally, you'll gain deep insight into the model, view, and controller technologies TurboGears is built upon: knowledge that will help you build far more robust and capable Python applications.
