### Representation Theory of Finite Groups and Finite-Dimensional Algebras Birkhäuser

**Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna**

From April 1, 1984 until March 31, 1991 the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft has sponsored the project "Representation Theory of Finite Groups and Finite Di mensional Algebras". The proposal for this project was submitted by B. Huppert (Mainz), B. Fischer (Bielefeld), G. Michler (Essen), H. Pahlings (Aachen) and C. M. Ringel (Bielefeld) in order to strengthen the interaction between the different re search areas in representation theory. The Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft has given many research positions and fellowships for young algebraists enabling them to do research at their own uni versities or as visitors at well known research institutions in America, Australia, England and France. The whole project benefitted very much from an extensive exchange programme between German and American scientists sponsored by the Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft and by the National Science Foundation of the United States. This volume presents lectures given in a final conference and reports by members of the project. It is divided into two parts. The first part contains seven survey articles describing recent advances in different areas of representation theory. These articles do not only concentrate on the work done by the German research groups, but also inform on major developments of the subject at all. The volume omits those topics already treated in book form. In particular, it does not contain a survey on K.

### Differential Algebraic Groups of Finite Dimension Springer, Berlin

**Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna**

Differential algebraic groups were introduced by P. Cassidy§and E. Kolchin and are, roughly speaking, groups defined by§algebraic differential equations in the same way as§algebraic groups are groups defined by algebraic equations.§The aim of the book is two-fold: 1) the provide an algebraic§geometer's introduction to differential algebraic groups and§2) to provide a structure and classification theory for the§finite dimensional ones. The main idea of the approach is to§relate this topic to the study of: a) deformations of (not§necessarily linear) algebraic groups and b) deformations of§their automorphisms. The reader is assumed to possesssome§standard knowledge of algebraic geometry but no familiarity§with Kolchin's work is necessary. The book is both a§research monograph and an introduction to a new topic and§thus will be of interest to a wide audience ranging from§researchers to graduate students.

### The Congruences of a Finite Lattice Springer, Berlin

**Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna**

The new edition of this self-contained exposition by one of the leading experts in lattice theory, George Grätzer, presents the major results from the past ten years on congruence lattices of finite lattices featuring the author's signature "Proof-by-Picture" method.§§Key features:§§Insightful discussion of techniques to construct "nice" finite lattices with given congruence lattices and "nice" congruence-preserving extensions§§Contains complete proofs, an extensive bibliography and index, and about 150 illustrations§§This new edition includes two new parts on Planar Semimodular Lattices and The Order of Principle Congruences§§The book is appropriate for a one-semester graduate course in lattice theory, yet is also designed as a practical reference for researchers studying lattices.§§Reviews of the first edition:§§"There exist a lot of interesting results in this area of lattice theory, and some of them are presented in this book. [This] monograph...is an exceptional work in lattice theory, like all the contributions by this author. ... The way this book is written makes it extremely interesting for the specialists in the field but also for the students in lattice theory. Moreover, the author provides a series of companion lectures which help the reader to approach the Proof-by-Picture sections." (Cosmin Pelea, Studia Universitatis Babes-Bolyai Mathematica, Vol. LII (1), 2007)§§"The book is self-contained, with many detailed proofs presented that can be followed step-by-step. [I]n addition to giving the full formal details of the proofs, the author chooses a somehow more pedagogical way that he calls Proof-by-Picture, somehow related to the combinatorial (as opposed to algebraic) nature of many of the presented results. I believe that this book is a much-needed tool for any mathematician wishing a gentle introduction to the field of congruences representations of finite lattices, with emphasis on the more 'geometric' aspects." - Mathematical Reviews§
