Sources of information are for example annual reports, earnings announcements and press releases. In the past, financial accounting research focused primarily on the numerical financial information disclosed (cf. Hales et al. 2011, 224).1 Interestingly, research showed that asset price movements could only partly be explained by this quantitative information and thus must have additional influencing factors (cf. Demers/Vega 2010, 2).Since corporate disclosure generally consists only to a small fraction of qualitative data and dominantly of textual information (cf. Li 2011, 1)2, and since language is the natural medium through which people communicate, financial accounting research started to focus on the analysis of textual disclosure (cf. Hales et al. 2011, 224). Results of these studies show that different aspects of textual disclosure, like the tone (how information is written/expressed) or the readability can influence for example market prices or analyst behavior (e.g. Li 2010 or Tetlock/Saar-Tsechansky/Macskassy 2008).This paper focuses on research in the field of tone as important characteristic of corporate textual disclosure. Its aim is to provide an overview about the most recent approaches and about challenges that researchers face.The remainder of this paper proceeds as follows. In section 2 the importance of textual analysis and the information content of textual information are discussed. Furthermore this section provides an overview about different approaches to characterize textual disclosure and a tabular classification of the recent literature. Since this paper focuses on the tone of textual disclosure, different approaches to measure tone are discussed as well. In section 3 two recent studies are discussed and section 4 concludes with a summary of the main results of this paper and gives suggestions for future research.

The airline started to compete within the confines of the existing industry by trying to steal customers from their rivals, especially the state monopoly carrier Air Lingus, outlined by Chan Kim and Renée Mauborgne (2004) as Bloody or Red Ocean Strategy . Ryanair seemed to follow a me-too strategy ; according to Osborne, K. (2005), they tried to be all things to all people . Even they started restructuring; their strategy was not enough differentiated and their cost advantage was too low to be profitable. Ryanair then created a competitive advantage through the alignment of the three components of business systems; 1)Creating superior value for their customers (outside perspective)2)Supplying their superior value-adding activities in an effective and efficient manner (which jointly form the Value Chain )3)Possessing over the resource base required to perform the value-adding activities, (inside perspective)According to Porter (1987), corporate strategy is what makes the corporate whole add up to more than the sum of its business unit parts. It is seen to be concerned with the overall purpose and scope of the organisation and to meet the expectations of major stakeholders. All aspects of Ryanair s value chain are important to the company and their shareholders as Ryanair s decisions add value to both.The following report outlines the three perspectives of shaping Ryanair s business system. The value creation dimension of Ryanair s business model will be outlined, considering the theories of Porter and the more recent authors Kim and Mauborgne (2004). Further, the linkages in the airline s value chain and their resource base will be analysed, considering Hamel and Prahalad s (1990) core competency model (inside-out approach).In section 2, the future challenges of the airline are considered. Ryanair s strengths and weaknesses will be analysed, internal value creating factors such as assets, skills or resources, to consider how the airline can create alignment to its opportunities and threats, external factors. An stronger outside in approach for Ryanair s future corporate strategy will be considered, applying Porter s five forces model, placing the market, the competition, and the customer at the starting point of the strategy process.

This volume draws from nearly four decades of researching, writing and publishing about the lives, experiences, and educational aspirations of thousands of young people from disadvantaged contexts. The big idea behind this book is that schools ought to be social institutions that advance the interests and life chances of all young people, especially those who are already the most marginalized not the interests of the economy, education systems, the military, corporate or national interests. The authors have crafted an archetype they are calling the socially just school an idea that has a genesis stretching back almost two decades. Like any symbol, prototype, storyline or set of narratives, this archetype is organic and evolving, but it is committed to producing a very different set of outcomes to current educational reform approaches that are de-forming and crippling a generation of young people. The book starts by explaining what the authors mean by youth voice as conceived in schools thought about in socially critical ways. In the broad, this will necessitate a discussion of how schools need to re-configure themselves to create the spaces within which young people can speak back . The next chapter posits a school reform framework that embraces the notions of: (a) reculturing that involves changing values, beliefs, assumptions, habits, patterns of behaviour and relationships in school organisational culture ; (b) restructuring around organisational reforms such as use of time and space, groupings of staff and students, staff roles, organisation of curriculum, and use of technology ; and (c) changing pedagogy around classroom teaching practices, the teaching and learning process and student learning outcomes . The overall focus of chapter 3 is the intersection of youth with school/community relations in ways that seek to redress inequities. The following chapters draws on Freire s notion of teachers as cultural workers and Giroux s vision of teachers as intellectuals to advance a socially critical pedagogy of teaching in conservative times. The authors also consider the crucial role of educational leadership in creating schools that are committed to improving the education and life chances of all young people, irrespective of their socio-economic, ethnic and racial backgrounds. Further, the authors challenge the underlying assumptions on which a crude economistic view of education is based and pursue Freire s notion of critical hope as expressed in Pedagogy of Freedom both the aspect that involves indignation as well as the courage to work for a more socially just world.
