In commenting on the book SATAN by Lewis Sperry Chafer, American minister, theologian and writer, Cyrus I. Scofield had this to say: "I sincerely wish that all believers, and especially all ministers and Christian workers, might in some way be led to read it." Lewis Sperry Chafer said, "The world has been willing to comply with the wishes and projects of Satan to the extent of ceasing to believe that he (Satan) really exists; this unbelief being most advantageous to his present undertakings. Yet the opinions of men have never changed the facts of Revelation, and, according to scripture, Satan exists." Believers will read and re-read this book, and will more clearly understand the dreadful will and plans of the arch enemy of God and man.

Complete Works of Thomas Manton, D.D, Vol. 19 Forgotten Books

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

Excerpt from The Complete Works of Thomas Manton, D.D, Vol. 19: Containing Sermons on Several Texts of Scripture These words are part of Christ's rebuke to Peter, who, when the high priest's servants came to attack Christ, draweth his sword, and cuts off Malchus' ear, which our Lord first health, and then reproveth his disciple for this temerarious action: 'Put up thy sword into the sheath.' He reproveth him, partly because it becometh no private man by opposition to resist authority; but the chief reason was, our Lord would not be hindered in performing the great act of his mediation, his dying for sinners. You shall see in another place, when Peter counselled him against his sufferings, he rebuked him with the same severity that he doth the devil tempting him to idolatry: 'Get thee behind me, Satan,' Mat. xvi. 23, compared with Mat. iv. 10. And here this rash and unseasonable interposition, to save his master by force, is again reproved. In Peters temerity, take notice of the difference between military valour and christian fortitude. He that faltered and was blown down by the weak blast of a damsels question hath now the courage with a single sword to venture upon an whole band of men. Military valour is boisterous, and dependeth upon the heat of blood and spirits, and is better for a sudden onset than a deliberate trial; but christian fortitude dependeth on the strength of faith, and lieth in a meek subjection to God, and will enable us to endure the greatest torments rather than encroach upon the conscience of our duty to God. A man of a military forward spirit may outbrave dangers when they are sudden, but faileth or fainteth in weaker trials, that are managed rather in a way of charge and accusation than force. But in Christ's rebuke, take notice of his obedience to God and love to men. Obedience to God: Shall I not suffer patiently, without resisting, what my Father hath determined me to suffer? And love to men; it was the cup which God had given him to drink for the good of his people, and therefore he would by no means decline it. In the words take notice of - (1.) The notion by which affliction is expressed; it is a cup.' (2.) God's ordering of it, Which my Father hath given me.' (3.) Christ's submission, 'Shall I not drink it?' 1. For the term or notion whereby Christ's sufferings are expressed, 'a cup.' About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Restoring the Biblical Christ - 2862369006

Restoring the Biblical Christ Jason Wayne Kerrigan

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

The first chapter of Restoring the Biblical Christ documents the history surrounding the Nicene Crisis in order to show that the modern day tradition was not always the belief held by early Christians. In 325 AD, Constantine exhorted the Bishops assembled at Nicea to sign a creed declaring that God and Jesus are homoousios (a Greek term that means same-essence). What few know, however, is that the exact same term Constantine had placed in the Nicene Creed was condemned fifty years prior at the Christian Synods of Antioch. The first chapter of Restoring the Biblical Christ documents the history, showing the rise of Nicene doctrine, the rejection of it by early Christians, and ultimately its enforcement by a subsequent Roman Emperor, Theodosius. Chapters 2-16 begin a thorough, fresh examination of what the Bible actually does say about Jesus. Is he God? What does the Bible say? Jesus is called "the image of God" (2 Corinthians 4:4, Colossians 1:15). If I show you an image of someone, a photograph of Einstein for example, and ask you, "Who is this?" You would say, "That is Einstein." Yet, there are not two of him. The image of Einstein doesn't combine with the true and only Einstein to form one man made up of multiple persons who are each Einstein. Rather, there is one Einstein, and he is expressed in his image. Jesus said that when men saw him, they saw the Father (John 14:9). That is because he is "the image of God" and "the Word (which means expression) of God." The fact that the image is sometimes called by the name of the one who is revealed through the image (i.e., "That is Einstein") carries through much of the Bible and clarifies many texts. For instance, Jesus "turned, and said unto Peter, Get thee behind me Satan." (Matthew 16:23) Now, Peter wasn't literally Satan, but rather he was called such because Satan was using him at that moment. Accurately defining the correlation of God and Jesus has been described in our modern day as "beyond the reason of man" and "unable to be explained." Such conclusions are not necessary, however, and when you finish this book you will see that the Biblical teaching concerning God and Jesus is actually very logical. One reviewer wrote: "What this book is not is mimetic and unthinking: it is just well-researched, well-cited, eloquently argued, and uncompromisingly Biblical in its orientation. Kerrigan goes where few tread, not for the sake of argument, but for the sake of truth. What you see time and time again is that the Biblical godhead teaching is plainer than what the theologians have been making it."

Times of the Gentiles, A Study in Daniel BERTRAMS

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

It has pleased God to put in place governmental authority within the whole of His creation. There are realms of authority in heaven which is clearly taught in the word of God, and when God created the world He placed Adam in control of the earth even before sin. He was crowned with glory and honour and set over the works of God's hands. After the fall the Lord still required for the earth to be governed and it pleased Him to put the rule of the world into various hands until Israel were given the supreme place to hold this world for God. Because of their failure to be faithful to the Lord they were removed from power and the government of this world was placed in Gentile hands, this was under Nebuchadnezzar and is recorded for us in Daniel Chapter 2. This began the "Times of the Gentiles" The main thrust of the book of Daniel is to reveal the end of Gentile rule and this is the purpose of the book as seen in the four prophecies revealed to Daniel himself from chapters 7-12. In these tremendous revelations the Lord is unfolding the rise of the final world despot who will move in opposition to God, and under Satan will corrupt humanity as he brings men into rebellion against God. In these chapters we see the rise, the character he bears and the control he will manifest during the tribulation period. There is more said in the word of God about this coming "Man of Sin" than any other person beside Lord Jesus, and the book of Daniel takes a leading role in revealing what God says about him. As there are many who would study the prophetic truths I trust this addition to the many volumes written on the subject will prove helpful to understand the mind of God. The volume does not follow in detail all that has been written by others but it has been written after many years of careful study and I trust that those who peruse it will at least give it some careful thought. May the Lord use this to encourage others to study the subject and discern the mind of God in those things which He has revealed.

Opis - Translated, with an Introduction and Notes by John R. Williams. Goethe's Faust is a classic of European literature. Based on the fable of the man who traded his soul for superhuman powers and knowledge, it became the life's work of Germany's greatest poet. Beginning with an intriguing wager between God and Satan, it charts the life of a deeply flawed individual, his struggle against the nihilism of his diabolical companion Mephistopheles. Part One presents Faust's pact with the Devil and the harrowing tragedy of his love affair with the young Gretchen. Part Two shows Faust's experience in the world of public affairs, including his encounter with Helen of Troy, the emblem of classical beauty and culture. The whole is a symbolic and panoramic commentary on the human condition and on modern European history and civilisation. Heaven and Hell Wilder Publications

Collected in one omnibus edition here are the five most important poetic works on Heaven and Hell ever written. In Paradise Lost Milton tells the story of the fall of man, which encompasses a battle that rages across Heaven between God and Satan. Here are passion and innocence, victory and defeat, hope and despair. This is without a doubt the greatest epic poem ever written in the English language. Paradise Regained is often thought of as the companion to Milton's Epic Paradise Lost. Here Milton tells the full story of Christ's forty days' temptation in the desert with Satan. The detail and emotional impact are stunning. A book for the ages. The Divine Comedy is a first person narration of Dante's travels through Hell, Purgatory, and Heaven; but at a deeper level it represents allegorically the soul's journey towards God. At this deeper level, Dante draws on medieval Christian theology and philosophy. A powerful work of art that has stood the test of time. This is the brilliant Henry Wadsworth Longfellow translation that placed Dante in his proper place in the English speaking world.

Called "The Black Pope" by many of his followers, Anton La Vey began the road to High Priesthood of the Church of Satan when he was only 16 years old and an organ player in a carnival: "On Saturday night I would see men lusting after halfnaked girls dancing at the carnival, and on Sunday morning when I was playing the organ for tent-show evangelists at the other end of the carnival lot, I would see these same men sitting in the pews with their wives and children, asking God to forgive them and purge them of carnal desires. And the next Saturday night they'd be back at The carnival or some other place of indulgence. "I knew then that the Christian Church thrives on hypocrisy, and that man's carnal nature will out!" From that time early in his life his path was clear. Finally, on the last night of April, 1966-Walpurgisnacht, the most important festival of the believers in witchcraft-LaVey shaved his head in the tradition of Ancient executioners and announced the formation of The Church Of Satan. He had seen the need for a church that would recapture man's body and his carnal desires as objects of celebration. "Since worship of fleshly things produces pleasure," he said, "there would then be a temple of glorious indulgence ..."

Excerpt from The Anti-Universalist, or History of the Fallen Angels of the Scriptures: Proofs of the Being of Satan and of Evil Spirits, and Many Other Curious Matters Connected Therewith No subject that has been agitated since man was created, can be said to have engaged the attention of all people, as that of re ligion, whether among Pagan or Christian nations. That it is thus, is, however, perfectly natural; because it claims to involve the interests of man, relative to both time and eternity, as univer sally allowed. In all ages, and under all circumstances, religion, whether handed down from father to son by tradition, or from God by inspiration, as in the case of the Holy Scriptures, has ever pre sented to notice two beings, who are shown as Opposed to each other in their natures and pursuits. These two beings are known, or spoken of, by the terms jehovah, and Satan the good and the evil being, in Jewish and Christian countries; while in other parts of the earth, are equally acknowledged, if not thus named - differ aing onlv as languages differ, but conveying the same ideas.
