Essay from the year 2002 in the subject Sociology - Work, Profession, Education, Organisation, grade: Grade A, University of Manchester (Institute for Development Policy and Management), language: English, abstract: When the flexible concept of HRM emerged in the 1980s, in the times of Thatcherism and Reaganomics, it could not help but look more desirable than personnel management (Hope-Hailey). The attractiveness of the theory of managing personnel led to a proliferation of HRM language. Nonetheless, it remains to be seen if there is more to HRM than only a new and shining rhetoric. A number of authors stress the difficulties of identifying clear differences between personnel management and HRM, and maintain that the most obvious change is a re-labelling process . Torrington agrees that a change of label is obvious, though one cannot be sure that the content differentiates to any extent. However, the new terminology may at least rid personnel management from its unfavourable welfare image and other negative connotations and thus, save the ailing function of managing personnel from marginalisation. Accordingly, some HR academics maintain that new labels on old bottles may have their uses, even if it is only for marketing purposes. Furthermore, a valuable contribution of HRM is to direct the attention to regarding people as the key resource of organisations and lending the management of personnel increased importance. In this essay, the similarities and differences between personnel and HR management are analysed with regard to their theoretical approaches as well as their practical implementation. Before sketching the similarities and differences in some detail, two different models of HRM, the soft and the hard approach, will be introduced. Finally, the question will be examined if HRM models are manipulative and exploitative, and a conclusion will summarise the results briefly.

Essay from the year 2008 in the subject Business economics - Personnel and Organisation, printed single-sided, grade: 2,3, University of Western Sydney (School of Management), course: Human Resource Strategy, 25 entries in the bibliography, language: English, abstract: During recent years an efficient Human Resource Management (HRM) hasbecome more and more important for companies to achieve and sustain bothcompetitiveness and economic success. Leopold, Harris and Watson (2005)mentioned that Human Resources became matters of considerable competitiveadvantage. Human Resources, respectively the skills and knowledge of anorganisation s staff, as Hamel and Prahalat (1994) called it, has transformedthrough massive changes in the economical, technological, sociocultural, judicial and political conditions to one of the most important strategic factor ofsuccess for companies these days. HRM, as a reaction to these changes in Personnel Management , attempts to find various methods of resolution forpractice. If Personnel Management , HRM or SHRM , they all have a commongoal: obtaining the achievement potential of all organisational members best aspossible. But the HRM approach goes beyond the traditional approach of Personnel Management , having a broader focus on the necessaryinterdependence of all components with each other as well as the connection toother compartments of companies, whose success is seen in straightconnection with personnel measures.Thereby Strategic Human Resource Management (SHRM) can be seen asextension of HRM, and following the definition of Boxall (1996) it deals with therelationship between the strategic management of an organisation and themanagement of its human resources within this strategic context. In that casethe focus is on long-term personnel decisions as well as on the question how aninteraction of corporate and personnel strategy can be achieved.Initially this work is going to introduce and define different organizationalstrategies as well as key human resource strategies. This shall be followed by acritical evaluation of the concepts by opposing the pros to the cons. Therein thedifficulties and between Organisational Strategy, Human Resource Strategy andthe Organizational Environment shall be shown. The work results in a finalconclusion.

Selection of Candidates as a Function of Human Resources Management in the Company GRIN Verlag

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

Scholarly Research Paper from the year 2010 in the subject Business economics - Business Management, Corporate Governance, grade: -, University of Zagreb (Institute of Economics), course: MBA - Human resources management and development, language: English, abstract: Contemporary business management is based on management of resources, particularly human resources. Planning, recruiting and selecting candidates are key human resource functions. Business leaders are continuously engaged in the process of reconsidering roles and goals, managing the business in the most appropriate way. Selection, based upon internal candidates recruitment was a rule in a lack of certain employees profiles. But, solving the human resources insufficiency problem, we often refocus our attention to external candidates recruitment and selection. Besides contacts and colaboration with media and recruitment agencies, we also need strengthening of our own potentials. Selection through our own human resource department or engagement of selection agency / professionals is a routine, but when we have to cope with several constraints like human resources and financial resources limits, then we have to rely on selection aproach more flexible and adaptive to ocassions. Media support, at least an adequate Internet promotion, lead to rising number of candidates applications. But choice of the right candidate is the art, we have to accept the fact. 3 C concept (Cost, communication, and concept itself) may help in improvizing our candidate selection process. Internet ensures wide communication to candidates, through social networks and Internet generally, but is not enough when focusing our attention to candidates and their potential. In order to ensure choosing the right one, or at least to follow the rule - not to choose the wrong candidate nor to exclude the right one . Systematic approach ensures planned results and candidates choices, so we have to be aware of the fact that further development and focus onto new potentials and resources are basics for our business survival. Keywords: human resources, candidate, selection, recruitment, external resources, 3C concept, Internet

Agent-Based Approach for Coordinated Multi-Provider - 2212827762

Agent-Based Approach for Coordinated Multi-Provider Birkhauser

Inne 1

Communication networks are very complex and interdependent systems requiring complicated management and control operations under strict resource and time constraints. A finite number of network components with limited capacities need to be shared for dynamically allocating a high number of traffic demands. Moreover, coordination of peer provider is required whenever these demands span domains controlled by distinct operators. In this context, traditional human-driven management is becoming increasingly inadequate to cope with the growing heterogeneity of actors, services and technologies populating the current deregulated market. This book proposes a novel approach to improve multi-provider interactions based on the coordination of autonomous and self-motivated software entities acting on behalf of distinct operators. Coordination is achieved by means of distributed constraint satisfaction techniques integrated within economic mechanisms, which enable automated negotiations to take place. This allows software agents to find efficient allocations of service demands spanning several networks without having to reveal strategic or confidential data. In addition, a novel way of addressing resource allocation and pricing in a compact framework is made possible by the use of powerful resource abstraction techniques. The book is addressed to researchers in the area of agent technology, automated negotiation, distributed constraint satisfaction, and networking, in particular for what concerns resource allocation and pricing. Furthermore, it should be a valuable resource for both network and service providers Keywords: agent technology networking
