HOMEGROUND: THE KATE BUSH MAGAZINE: ANTHOLOGY TWO: 'THE RED SHOES' TO '50 WORDS FOR SNOW' HomeGround is a magazine devoted to Kate Bush (born in 1958), a British pop star best-known for hits such as 'Wuthering Heights', 'Wow', 'Hounds of Love' and 'Running Up That Hill'. This book is pure heaven for music fans. The HomeGround magazine anthology includes material inspired by all periods of Kate Bush's musical progression. It is a book about the reaction to her work and how her unique music has touched the lives of so many people. This is a unique book, a labour of love for hundreds of music fans who have contributed to HomeGround over its thirty-year existence. The book includes an enormous amount of information about Kate Bush, accounts of every release, album, single, pop promo and appearance, as well as memories and accounts of music fandom (such as conventions, meetings, hikes, stage door encounters and video parties). It also includes material on many other pop acts and events. It features poetry, stories, letters, reviews, interviews, memoirs, cartoons, drawings, paintings and photographs. This is the second book of a two volume set, totalling over 1200 pages. The second volume covers Kate Bush's career from 'The Red Shoes' album to '50 Words For Snow' album (from the early 1990s to the present day). The first book runs from the origins of Bush's career to the album 'The Sensual World'. The first issue of HomeGround appeared in 1982, four years after Kate Bush's dramatic debut with 'Wuthering Heights'. Starting with an ancient manual typewriter, and a pot of glue paste, the editors mounted articles on recycled backing sheets and added hand-drawn artwork to fill the gaps. The first issue was photocopied, the pages hand-stapled together and twenty-five copies were given away to fans they knew. Only later did they discover the magic of word processing, and desktop publishing. From those beginnings HomeGround became a cornerstone of the 'Kate-speaking world', the editors going on to organise four official fan events at which Kate Bush and members of her family and band appeared, arrange at Bush's request a team of fans to be extras in two of her videos and organise informal fan gatherings at Glastonbury and Top Withens, the storm-blown ruin on Haworth Moor. Years before the internet, HomeGround became a place where fans could discuss Bush's music, and a place where they could publish creative writing and artwork that music inspired. www.crmoon.com. Bouquet of Satire, Wisdom, and History Houghton Library of the Harvard College Library

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

This book brings into print editions, translations, and commentaries for more than two dozen unique poems (in Latin) from the late eleventh and early twelfth century, preserved in Houghton Library's anthology known as MS Lat 300. This book offers unparalleled access to the anthology, previously unavailable in English. From a literary point of view, those interested in lyric poetry composed in Old French and Old Provencal have paid increasing attention to Latin poetry that circulated in France, and of course those wishing to trace the background of the Carmina Burana have reason to study this kind of collection, but many poems remain unedited and even more cry out for translation and contextualization. With the publication of the accompanying facsimiles, palaeographers may now be able to solve the puzzle of where the manuscript originated - its story between the Napoleonic wars and 1965, when it was purchased by Harvard. All told, this volume opens the way to advances in medieval studies.

Second Simplicity - 2842737671

Second Simplicity YALE UNIVERSITY PRESS

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

Yves Bonnefoy, now 87 years old, has enjoyed during the past two decades perhaps the most prolific and innovative period of his splendid lifework. This volume presents in English and French an inviting array of his recent writings, carefully selected for their literary quality as well as their broad appeal. It features several works never published before and many that have never been translated into English. The first anthology of Bonnefoy's work to appear since 1995, this collection reflects the poet's powerful engagement with the New England landscape, where quiet woods and fields have given shape to the pared-down aesthetic of his recent years. This book is the first to showcase not only the poetry for which Bonnefoy is justly renowned but also his inventive compositions in prose. Appropriately, this book alternates more traditional verse with freer forms, just as the author has done in several major works of the past twenty years; that symbiotic approach is one of the hallmarks of this latter phase of his art. Masterfully translated by Hoyt Rogers, the collection is organized chronologically, revealing clearly how the poet continues to extend and refine his scope and style. Rogers provides a penetrating introduction in which he analyzes aspects of Bonnefoy's recent writings and the 'second simplicity' that characterizes his late work.

Otakar Bezina Forgotten Books

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

Excerpt from Otakar Bezina: A Study in Czech Literature On several occasions during the past few years I have published translations from Brezina in various English periodicals, while my "Anthology of Slavonic Literature" and "Modern Czech Poetry" both contain representative extracts from his works. But the circumstances under which these translations appeared precluded the possibility of providing an adequate survey of Brezina's artistic achievement as a whole. The purpose of the following essay is to provide such a concise but systematic introduction to Brezina's work. In order to obtain an independent impression of the subject, I have, as far as possible, avoided studying the numerous Czech commentaries on Brezina. I must, however, state my indebtedness to the volume published by Dr. Josef Stanek and Dr. Jaroslav Durych in 1918 on the occasion of Brezina's fiftieth birthday. It contains a quantity of biographical and critical material which ought to be made accessible to all who are interested in Brezina. I must further express my gratitude to Messrs. Kegan Paul who have permitted me to reprint a number of translations from the two above mentioned volumes. With regard to the translated extracts, the rhyme and metre of the original have been preserved, except whose it is otherwise indicated. The bibliography does not aim at completeness, but includes only those books which I have actually consulted.
