Yarnwinder Madonna of Leonardo da Vinci - 2835877802

Yarnwinder Madonna of Leonardo da Vinci C.B. Edizioni

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

In April of 1501 Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519), now in his early fifties, was in Florence, working on a "small painting", a Madonna and Child intent on yarn-winding, destined for Florimond Robertet, favourite of Louis XII, the king of France. This Information is gleaned from a letter by Fra Pietro da Novellara to Isabella d'Este, dated 14 April 1501. When the letter was published in 1869, it did little other than to add yet another entry to the list of Leonardo's lost works: the Madonna of the Yarnwinder. It was only in the 20th century that the subject described in the letter was recognized for what it was in numerous copies, variations and school replicas. In this richly illustrated volume of prestigious editorial format, Carlo Pedretti and Margherita Melani reconstruct the genesis of the theme of the Madonna of the Yarnwinder and the artistic fortune of the subject, conceived and painted by Leonardo and subsequently reproposed by both his pupils and his followers. Three versions are attributed to Leonardo and his inner circle: the Reford Madonna, the Buccleuch Madonna and the Crespi Madonna. To all intents and purposes, these can be considered as three versions of his first French commission. The three variations on the theme of the Madonna of the Yarnwinder are closely investigated by the authors through Leonardo's drawings, literary and historical sources. Their study also clarifies the role and importance of the customer, Florimond Robertet, and the origin of the subject which has meritied a fair number of copies. The volume concludes with details of the copies and variants, testimony not only to the success of the Madonna of the Yarnwinder but also the indisputable historical and artistic value of this painting by Leonardo. Bilingual edition: Italian and English text.

Ciekawa tematycznie moneta upamiętnia życie i twórczość jednego z najwybitniejszych artystów wszech czasów - wszechstronnie wybitną osobę, jaką był Leonardo da Vinci (1452-1519). Znana jako "La Joconde" we Francji i "La Gioconda" we Włoszech, bez znaczenia, w jakim języku ją nazwiemy, wszyscy podziwiamy jej piękno. Rewers: wizerunek Leonardo da Vinci - z jedynego znanego Autoportretu artysty. "Kto życia nie ceni, nie wart go." Leonardo Da Vinci and the Ethics of Style MANCHESTER UNIVERSITY PRESS

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

Leonardo da Vinci and the ethics of style brings together a distinguished group of experts on Leonardo and the Renaissance, examining the ethical underpinnings of art history. The seven essays articulate the complexity of ways in which style involved ethical considerations during the early modern period, and still involves us in its conundrums. Looking at individual works and concepts, this fascinating collection covers subjects such as Leonardo's understanding of his role as a painter as that of a natural philosopher, his interests in visual perception and the understanding of visual sensations by the mind, how and why Leonardo's ideas on painting are at the core of art theory, how Leonardo addresses style in gendered terms, and 'style' as the historian's projection. This volume will be of great interest to all those studying or with an enthusiasm for Renaissance art history, art theory, cultural studies and philosophy.

When Leonardo da Vinci began laying the first brushstrokes, in 1494, on the refectory wall of the convent adjacent to the church of Santa Maria delle Grazie in Milan, he probably had no idea he was about to create one of the greatest artistic masterpieces of all time. Adopting the innovative, and equally unusual, dry painting technique, the Renaissance genius could not foresee that he would have condemned his work to a particular fragility, and put its conservation at risk in the following centuries. This same technique, however, was what allowed an improved chromatic unity, a rendering of transparencies and light effects, and an extreme precision in details, visible only from close range. Today, thanks to the exclusive magnification published in this volume
