Opis - Pierwsze na świecie świadectwo ofiary zbrodni honorowej. Miała siedemnaście lat i zakochała się: zhańbiła rodzinę. Więc rodzina wydała na nią wyrok śmierci... Pokochała go pierwszą miłością. Myślała, że się z nią ożeni. Ale ukochany zniknął, a ona odkryła, że jest w ciąży. A w jej świecie to najcięższa zbrodnia... Wyrok wydaje jej ojciec. Szwagier dokonuje egzekucji. Oblewa Souad benzyną i podpala... ABOUT THE BOOK: The inspiration for Like a Watered Garden came from a ten-minute opening in a Bible Study Fellowship class thirty-five years ago. The teacher mentioned Psalm 92:12: "The righteous man will flourish like a palm tree, He will grow like a cedar in Lebanon." Thanks to lengthy naps by her three-year-old son, she researched the plants and trees of the Bible for the next year. Discovering how little was written on that subject, she conceived a dream to write a book on them. Like a Watered Garden is the culmination of ten years of research, much encouragement and guidance by God, and the result of many prayers. The combination of the vivid pictures, the biblical foundation, and the personal reflections present a beautiful image of how our lives can look like God's watered garden. **** ABOUT THE AUTHOR: Shirley Roach is a wife, mother, and grandmother-great blessings in her life. She has a BA degree in English and a Special Education degree. She has been a social worker, special education teacher, and a substitute teacher. While she was teaching special education, she became a Christian, began learning about the Lord, and entered into lifelong service for the Lord. When she adopted her two children, she retired to stay at home to be a full-time mother. She has taught teenagers in Sunday school and in a senior high Wednesday night Bible study for twenty-seven years. For twenty-two years, she has taught adults in a nondenominational Bible study called Community Bible Study. She speaks in churches and has led retreats. For the last eight years, she has served in a Kairos prison ministry as a table leader and a chaplain.

Year in Spain, Vol. 2 of 3 (Classic Reprint) Forgotten Books

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

Excerpt from Year in Spain, Vol. 2 of 3 I Had been promising myself during the whole winter to quit the city so soon as there were any symptoms of spring, and to make a visit to Segovia, returning by San Ildefonso and the Escurial. Towards the middle of March the trees of the Prado began to put forth shoots abundantly; one or two apricot-trees, sheltered by the palace of a grandee near the Recoletos, showed here and there a scattering blossom, sent as a spy to peep out and see if winter had taken his departure; and one who kept his ears open as I did might occasionally hear a solitary bird trying a note, as if to clear his throat for the overture in the garden of Retiro. Believing that I discovered the symptoms so anxiously wished for, I determined to start immediately. Nor was I doomed on this occasion to travel without a companion. Fortune, in a happy moment, provided one in the person of a young countryman, who had come to Spain in search of instruction. He was just from college, full of all the ardent feeling excited by classical pursuits, with health unbroken, hope that was a stranger to disappointment, curiosity which had never yet been fed to satiety. 'Only with the greatest of simplifications, for the sake of convenience, can we say Africa. In reality, except as a geographical term, Africa doesn't exist'. Ryszard Kapuscinski has been writing about the people of Africa throughout his career. In a study that avoids the official routes, palaces and big politics, he sets out to create an account of post-colonial Africa seen at once as a whole and as a location that wholly defies generalised explanations. It is both a sustained meditation on the mosaic of peoples and practises we call 'Africa', and an impassioned attempt to come to terms with humanity itself as it struggles to escape from foreign domination, from the intoxications of freedom, from war and from politics as theft. The Beginning: Collision, Ghana 1958 More than anything, one is struck by the light. Light everywhere. Brightness everywhere. Everywhere, the sun. Just yesterday, an autumnal London was drenched in rain. The airplane drenched in rain. A cold, wind, darkness. But here, from the morning

Excerpt from Hudibras, Vol. 1 of 2: A Poem Whatever his associates and the manner of his life may have been, Butler did not publish the third part of his Hudibras till fourteen years after the appearance of the second part, when he had drifted apparently into want and obscurity and he died two years later in Rose Street, Covent Garden, in his sixty-ninth year. His death has been attributed to various causes, consumption, old age, or the want of proper food. About the Publisher Forgotten Books publishes hundreds of thousands of rare and classic books. Mr. Crewe's Career (Classic Reprint) Forgotten Books

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

Excerpt from Mr. Crewe's Career I may as well begin this story with Mr. Hilary Vane, more frequently addressed as the Honourable Hilary Vane, although it was the gentleman's proud boast that he had never held an office in his life. He belonged to the Vanes of Camden Street, - a beautiful village in the bills near Ripton, - and was, in common with some other great men who had made a noise in New York and the nation, a graduate of Camden Wentworth Academy. But Mr. Vane, when he was at home, lived on a wide, maple-shaded street in the "city" of Ripton, cared for by an elderly housekeeper who had more edges than a new-fangled mowing machine. The house was a porticoed one which had belonged to the Austens for a hundred years or more, for Hilary Vane had married, towards middle age, Miss Sarah Austen. In two years he was a widower, and he never tried it again; he had the Austens' house, and that many-edged woman, Euphrasia Cotton, the Austens' housekeeper. The house was of wood, and was painted white as regularly as leap year. From the street front to the vegetable garden in the extreme rear it was exceedingly long, and - perhaps for propriety's sake - Hilary Vane lived at one end of it and Euphrasia at the other. Hilary was sixty-five, Euphrasia seventy, which is not old for frugal people, - though it is just as well to add that there had never been a breath of scandal about either of them, in Ripton or elsewhere.
