### Statistics for Spatio-Temporal Data Wiley & Sons

**Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna**

A state-of-the-art presentation of spatio-temporal processes, bridging classic ideas with modern hierarchical statistical modeling concepts and the latest computational methods§From understanding environmental processes and climate trends to developing new technologies for mapping public-health data and the spread of invasive-species, there is a high demand for statistical analyses of data that take spatial, temporal, and spatio-temporal information into account. Statistics for Spatio-Temporal Data presents a systematic approach to key quantitative techniques that incorporate the latest advances in statistical computing as well as hierarchical, particularly Bayesian, statistical modeling, with an emphasis on dynamical spatio-temporal models.§Cressie and Wikle supply a unique presentation that incorporates ideas from the areas of time series and spatial statistics as well as stochastic processes. Beginning with separate treatments of temporal data and spatial data, the book combines these concepts to discuss spatio-temporal statistical methods for understanding complex processes.§Topics of coverage include:§Exploratory methods for spatio-temporal data, including visualization, spectral analysis, empirical orthogonal function analysis, and LISAs§Spatio-temporal covariance functions, spatio-temporal kriging, and time series of spatial processes§Development of hierarchical dynamical spatio-temporal models (DSTMs), with discussion of linear and nonlinear DSTMs and computational algorithms for their implementation§Quantifying and exploring spatio-temporal variability in scientific applications, including case studies based on real-world environmental data§Throughout the book, interesting applications demonstrate the relevance of the presented concepts. Vivid, full-color graphics emphasize the visual nature of the topic, and a related FTP site contains supplementary material. Statistics for Spatio-Temporal Data is an excellent book for a graduate-level course on spatio-temporal statistics. It is also a valuable reference for researchers and practitioners in the fields of applied mathematics, engineering, and the environmental and health sciences.A state-of-the-art presentation of spatio-temporal processes, bridging classic ideas with modern hierarchical statistical modeling concepts and the latest computational methods§From understanding environmental processes and climate trends to developing new technologies for mapping public-health data and the spread of invasive species, there is a high demand for statistical analyses of data that take spatial, temporal, and spatio-temporal information into account. ### Data Analysis for Network Cyber-Security World Scientific Publishing

**Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna**

There is increasing pressure to protect computer networks against unauthorized intrusion, and some work in this area is concerned with engineering systems that are robust to attack. However, no system can be made invulnerable. Data Analysis for Network Cyber-Security focuses on monitoring and analyzing network traffic data, with the intention of preventing, or quickly identifying, malicious activity. Such work involves the intersection of statistics, data mining and computer science. Fundamentally, network traffic is relational, embodying a link between devices. As such, graph analysis approaches are a natural candidate. However, such methods do not scale well to the demands of real problems, and the critical aspect of the timing of communications events is not accounted for in these approaches. This book gathers papers from leading researchers to provide both background to the problems and a description of cutting-edge methodology. The contributors are from diverse institutions and areas of expertise and were brought together at a workshop held at the University of Bristol in March 2013 to address the issues of network cyber security. The workshop was supported by the Heilbronn Institute for Mathematical Research.

### Statistics for the Social Sciences SAGE Publications Inc

**Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna**

Do your students lack confidence in their ability to handle quantitative work? Are they unsure about how best to use SAS, SPSS, and Excel programs? The new edition of the bestselling textbook Statistics for the Social Sciences is the solution. The previous editions of this book were popular with instructors because they helped build students' confidence and ability in doing statistical analysis, by slowly moving from concepts that require little computational work to those that require more. In this new edition, author R. Mark Sirkin demonstrates how statistics can be used so that the students come to appreciate their usefulness rather than fearing them.Key Features of the Third Edition:"- An emphasis on the analysis and interpretation of data giving students a feel for how data interpretation is related to the methods by which the data was obtained- A wide range of examples from various fields in the social sciences demonstrate the role of statistical analysis in the research process- Coverage of the scientific method and how each statistical technique relates to the larger field of research - Emphasis on the interpretation of tables helping students master a topic that often proves challenging- Plenty of exercises are provided at the end of chapters so that students can practise all the statistical procedures covered- Answers to selected questions appear at the end of the book with complete worked-out solutions- Additional exercises have been added to reflect the additional computer coverage- User-friendly ways of navigating the text - key concepts are introduced and highlighted within the text, with definitions provided in boxes at the foot of each page- A handy glossary of all the the key concepts and terms in provided at the back of the book as an aid to revision- New tools to teach students how to do analysis not only through SAS and SPSS, but also using Excel descriptive statistics featuresThis book will be invaluable for upper level undergraduate students and graduate students across the social sciences. An Instructor's CD-ROM containing data sets, Powerpoint slides, exercises and answers will be available free-of-charge to professors adopting this text.

### Visual Statistics John Wiley & Sons Inc

**Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna**

A visually intuitive approach to statistical data analysis Visual Statistics brings the most complex and advanced statistical methods within reach of those with little statistical training by using animated graphics of the data. Using ViSta: The Visual Statistics System-developed by Forrest Young and Pedro Valero-Mora and available free of charge on the Internet-students can easily create fully interactive visualizations from relevant mathematical statistics, promoting perceptual and cognitive understanding of the data's story. An emphasis is placed on a paradigm for understanding data that is visual, intuitive, geometric, and active, rather than one that relies on convoluted logic, heavy mathematics, systems of algebraic equations, or passive acceptance of results. A companion Web site complements the book by further demonstrating the concept of creating interactive and dynamic graphics. The book provides users with the opportunity to view the graphics in a dynamic way by illustrating how to analyze statistical data and explore the concepts of visual statistics. Visual Statistics addresses and features the following topics: Why use dynamic graphics? A history of statistical graphics Visual statistics and the graphical user interface Visual statistics and the scientific method Character-based statistical interface objects Graphics-based statistical interfaces Visualization for exploring univariate data This is an excellent textbook for undergraduate courses in data analysis and regression, for students majoring or minoring in statistics, mathematics, science, engineering, and computer science, as well as for graduate-level courses in mathematics. The book is also ideal as a reference/self-study guide for engineers, scientists, and mathematicians. With contributions by highly regarded professionals in the field, Visual Statistics not only improves a student's understanding of statistics, but also builds confidence to overcome problems that may have previously been intimidating.
