Hermeneutic Interpretation of the Origin of the Social State of Man Hermetica Press

Antoine Fabre d'Olivet (December 8, 1767-March 25, 1825) was a French author, poet, and composer whose biblical and philosophical hermeneutics in?uenced many occultists, such as Eliphas Lévi and Gerard Encausse (Papus), and René Guénon. D'Olivet spent his life pursuing the esoteric wisdom concealed in the Hebrew scriptures, Greek philosophy, and the symbolism of many ancient cultures as far back as ancient India, Persia, and Egypt. His writings are considered classics of the Hermetic tradition. His best known works today are his research on the Hebrew language (The Hebraic Tongue Restored), his translation and interpretation of the writings of Pythagoras (The Golden Verses of Pythagoras), and his writings on the sacred art of music. In addition to the above two books and the present one, Hermetica has also published in consistent facsimile format for its Collected Works of Fabre d'Olivet series Cain and The Healing of Rodolphe Grivel. D'Olivet's interest in Pythagoras started a revival of Neo-Pythagoreanism that would later in?uence many occultists and new age esotericists. His mastery of many ancient languages and their literatures enabled him to write (in the time of Napoleon) his Hermeneutic Interpretation of the Origin of the Social State of Man and the Destiny of the Adamic Race, which remains a landmark investigation of the deeper esoteric undercurrents at work in the history of culture. Merlin, a fictional visitor from the Andromeda Galaxy, Planet Omniscia, has been friends with many of the most important scientific figures of the past including Kepler, da Vinci, Magellan, Doppler, Einstein and Hubble. In this delightful tour of the galaxies, Merlin often recounts his conversations with these historical figures in his responses to popular astronomy questions asked by adults and children alike. Merlin's well-informed answers combine a unique combination of wit and poetry along with serious science explained in refreshingly clear, reader-friendly language. Dear Merlin: Can a person cross our galaxy in a spaceship during one human lifespan? Merlin: In 1905, Merlin's good friend Albert Einstein introduced the "Special Theory of Relativity," which predicts that time will tick slower and slower the faster you travel. Were you to embark on such an adventure you could conceivably age as little as you wish, depending of course, on your exact speed. The problem arises when you return to Earth, which will have moved several hundred thousand years into the future and everyone will have forgotten about you. Nations of Nothing But Poetry Oxford University Press Inc

What happens when poets combine vernacular language with the spirit of modernity? Can a poem be cosmopolitanism and vernacular at the same time? Nations of Nothing But Poetry answers these questions through case studies of Scottish, English, and "Black Atlantic" poetries from the landmark modernist year of 1922 through the mid 1970s. Hart combines discussions of canonical poets, such as T.S. Eliot and W. H. Auden, with chapters on key but lesser known poets noted for their unique and creative introduction of their native vernaculars, like Hugh MacDiarmid, Basil Bunting, and Melvin B. Tolson. Throughout, Hart puts forward a new interpretation of Anglophone modernist verse that disrupts the literary-critical conflict between "national" and "transnational" poetries. Describing how these poets make "synthetic vernacular" poems out of a disordered medley of formal and linguistic parts, this study explains how poetic modernism is shaped by the incompletely globalized nature of twentieth-century history.

A Different Approach to Cosmology From a Static Universe through the Big Bang towards Reality Autor: F. Hoyle, G. Burbidge, J. V. NarlikarThis is a different kind of book about cosmology, a field of major interest to professional astronomers, physicists, and the general public. All research in cosmology adopts one model of the universe, the hot big bang model. But Fred Hoyle, Geoffrey Burbidge and Jayant Narlikar take a different approach. Starting with the beginnings of modern cosmology, they then conduct a wide ranging and deep review of the observations made from 1945 to the present day. Here they challenge many conventional interpretations. The latter part of the book presents the authors' own account of the present status of observations and how they should be explained. The controversial theme is that the dependency on the hot big bang model has led to an unwarranted rejection of alternative cosmological models. Writing from the heart, with passion and punch, these three cosmologists make a powerful case for viewing the universe in a different light. Spis treści: Preface 1. Introduction 2. Early relativistic cosmology 3. The observational revolution 4. The observational trail 1931, the determination of H0 and the age dilemma 5. Changing times 1945–1965: New techniques and new people 6. Song of Songs Jewish Publication Society

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

"The Song of Songs" has provided generations with some of the most passionate and most lasting love poetry ever recorded. And because of that passion, it has also been a source of lasting controversy and debate. What exactly is the true meaning of these 117 verses - a celebration of romantic love, or an allegory of divine love and redemption? In "The Song of Songs: The Honeybee in the Garden", author and artist Debra Band presents a breathtakingly beautiful illuminated work in which these two lines of interpretation are harmonized within a stunning visual context. Her fine calligraphy and striking artwork are like "The Song of Songs" itself, both literal and allegorical, sensuous and spiritual. This lovingly produced volume contains 65 full-page illuminations and beautifully crafted papercuts. The illuminations draw upon classic rabbinic texts and modern scholarship, creating both visual beauty and a new visual midrash on this beloved poetry. The art is accompanied by the artist's interpretation of the images, and it includes the Bible text in its original Hebrew, next to both the JPS English translation and the new David Band translation. The preface, by Raymond Scheindlin, eminent scholar of medieval Hebrew literature at The Jewish Theological Seminary, provides the framework for truly understanding Band's artistic achievement and scholarly contribution. This work, hailed as a masterpiece by art-lovers and scholars across the world, is an art-book collector's delight, a Bible devotee's treasure, and a magnificent gift for weddings, anniversaries, and other special occasions.

Moments of Life in Colour, Poetry and Music Man is unique in the universe not because of his physical figure, but of his ability to reflect the beauty of our world by creating pictures (painting), language including poetry, and melodies (music). Man's capabilities of creating these kinds of art can never be achieved by any other living creature on our planet earth. The author of this book wants to show that art is a unity. Everything you see or hear or feel can be expressed and reflected by painting, poetry and music. In four chapters (The Seasons - Nature - Peace and War - Life and Death) Bellosa describes essential aspects of life. In spite of some pensive reflections the author sees our world in the light of optimism and consolation. It is interesting to remark that Bellosa is a German, but he writes some of his books in German and English, for example his song book for young children in the kindergarten or in elementary schools: Neue Lieder nicht nur im Kindergarten - New Songs not only in the Kindergarten. It is indeed the exception to the rule that one man expresses his experiences in life by means of colour, poetry and music.

Poetry Book Society Recommended Translation. Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941) is India's greatest modern poet and the most brilliant creative genius produced by the Indian Renaissance. As well as poetry, he wrote songs, stories and novels, plays, essays, memoirs and travelogues. He was both a restless innovator and a superb craftsman, and the Bengali language attained great beauty and power in his hands. He created his own genre of dance drama and is one of the most important visual artists of modern India. He won the Nobel Prize for Literature in 1913. Tagore's poetry has an impressive wholeness: a magnificent loving warmth, a compassionate humanity, a delicate sensuousness, an intense sense of kinship with nature and a burning awareness of man's place in the universe. He moves with effortless ease from the literal to the symbolic, from the part of the whole, from a tiny detail to the vast cosmos. He is religious in the deepest sense, wavering between a faith that sustains the spirit in times of crisis - or fills it with energy and joy in times of happiness - and a profound questioning that can find no enduring answers. To him the earth is a vulnerable mother who clings to all her offspring, saying 'I won't let you go' to the tiniest blade of grass that springs from her womb, but who is powerless to prevent the decay and death of her children. This is the revised and enlarged second edition of a substantial selection of Tagore's poems and songs translated with an illustrated introduction, notes and glossary by the bilingual writer Ketaki Kushari Dyson, who lives in Oxford. Poet, novelist, playwright, translator, linguist and critic, she is one of the outstanding Bengali writers of her generation, and has published more than thirty titles in her two languages, including acclaimed scholarly works on Tagore.

Rhythm, Illusion and the Poetic Idea BERTRAMS

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

Rhythm, Illusion and the Poetic Idea explores the concept of rhythm and its central yet problematic role in defining modern French poetry. Forging innovative lines of inquiry linking the detailed analysis of poetic form to the evolution of fundamental aesthetic principles, David Evans offers extensive new readings of the literary and critical writings of the three major poets at the centre of France's most important poetic revolution. The volume is of interest to all students and readers of Baudelaire, Rimbaud and Mallarmé, since here is presented for the first time a thorough comparative study of developments in each writer's poetic form and theory, focusing on the themes of illusion, deception and the musical metaphor. The book is also intended to stimulate wider critical debate on the interpretation of metrical verse, prose poetry and vers libre, and offers original analytical methods which facilitate the study of poetic form. The author proposes a radical shift in our understanding of the role and mechanisms of poetic rhythm, suggesting that its very resistance to definition and fixity provides a conveniently opaque veil over the difficulties of defining poetry in the nineteenth and twentieth centuries.

To this day, Emily Dickinson remains a beloved and enigmatic figure in American poetry. This "lady in white," who shut herself away from the world and found solace alone with her words, has since her death been viewed primarily through the lens of her poetry, which afforded her beauty and hope amid the agony and loneliness of her life. As a reclusive writer himself, contemporary French author Christian Bobin felt a kindred tie to the poetess, and his book The Lady in White honors Dickinson in the form of a brief, poetically imagined account of her life and the work that she gave the world. This fresh and personal interpretation of Dickinson's life leaves one with an impression of knowing Dickinson both through her poetry, as recalled by Bobin, and as he senses the person she was through her work and the sparse facts we have about her life.

A master translator's beautiful and accessible rendering of the seminal Chinese text In a radically new translation and interpretation of the "I Ching," David Hinton strips this ancient Chinese masterwork of the usual apparatus and discovers a deeply poetic and philosophical text. Teasing out an elegant vision of the cosmos as ever-changing yet harmonious, Hinton reveals the seed from which Chinese philosophy, poetry, and painting grew. Although it was and is widely used for divination, the "I Ching "is also a book of poetic philosophy, deeply valued by artists and intellectuals, and Hinton's translation restores it to its original lyrical form. Previous translations have rendered the "I Ching" as a divination text full of arcane language and extensive commentary. Though informative, these versions rarely hint at the work's philosophical heart, let alone its literary beauty. Here, Hinton translates only the original strata of the text, revealing a fully formed work of literature in its own right. The result is full of wild imagery, fables, aphorisms, and stories. Acclaimed for the eloquence of his many translations of ancient Chinese poetry and philosophy, Hinton has reinvented the "I Ching "as an exciting contemporary text at once primal and postmodern.

Khaja Shamsuddin Mohammad Hafez (1327-1390 C.E.) was born in Shiraz, a city in Southwest Iran where he lived his entire life. The elegance, beauty, and delicacy of his poetry have made him the most beloved poet of the Persian-speaking world. Hafez composed the bulk of his poetry in the form of ghazal, a lyrical poem similar to an English sonnet whose length ranges from seven to thirteen couplets. Ghazals often deal with love and beauty and may occasionally be interspersed with philosophical, ethical, didactic, or critical lines about life and the universe. Reza Saberi has produced a new English translation of the complete Divan of Hafez, using Dr. Parviz N. Khanlari's Edition. The text of The Divan of Hafez is an authentic translation of all of the poems of Hafez complete with their Persian originals.
