Auszug: Miroslav "Mirko" Frycer (* 27.

The Toronto Maple Leafs did NOT make the Stanley Cup playoffs in 2010-2011. Still, the author saw something special beginning to emerge as the season unfolded. After a successful start in October, a series of events saw the team plunge to the bottom of the standings, Then circumstances slowly changed, and the Maple Leafs steadily regained standing until time finally ran out, and the playoffs eluded them. The season concludes with what the author sees as a rebirth of hope for coming hockey seasons in Toronto. This book follows the Maple Leafs from the day they named a new Captain for the club until the team's quest for the playoffs comes to an end. Every game is reported upon. Events are analyzed. The contributions of all players are critiqued and evaluated. Problems are pointed out, and possible solutions are put forward. Readers who follow the fortunes of the Toronto Maple Leaf franchise should enjoy reading the story of this past season, and comparing their perspectives of the team with those of the author.

Excerpt: The aspect of the Quebec Nordiques season was that it hosted Rendez-vous '87, a series of two matches consisting of NHL All-Stars versus Russian All-Stars. Quebec had a very quiet off-season, as the only notable player movement was Alain Lemieux leaving the club as a free agent, as he signed a contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins. Lemieux only appeared in seven regular season games with the Nordiques, getting no points, however, Lemieux did play in a playoff game, earning a goal and three points. He finished second in scoring on the Fredericton Express, earning 74 points. Quebec started the season off hot, going 6-2-2 in their first ten games, however, a 7-11-2 record over their next twenty games saw the Nordiques fall to 13-13-4. The club continued to struggle, going 6-13-3, to fall to 19-26-7, and battling the Buffalo Sabres for the final playoff spot in the Adams Division. Quebec would finish the season with a 31-39-10 record, earning 72 points, which was the teams worst point total since their first season in 1979-80. The Nordiques finished in fourth place, and earned a playoff spot for the seventh straight season. Offensively, Michel Goulet led the way, scoring 49 goals and 96 points to lead the Nordiques. Peter Stastny had an injury plagued season, missing 18 games, ho...

Excerpt: The 2008 NHL Entry Draft was the 46th NHL Entry Draft. It was hosted by the Ottawa Senators at Scotiabank Place in the city of Ottawa, Ontario, Canada, on June 20-21, 2008. The Senators were originally awarded the 2005 NHL Entry Draft, but because of the lockout, the draft was scaled back from its usual format of being open to the public and having many draft-eligible players in attendance. The actual 2005 drafting was held in Ottawa's Westin Hotel instead of the Corel Centre, as Scotiabank Place was then known. The draft was part of a festival of events that Ottawa and the NHL presented at the Scotiabank Place arena. Before the first round and during the later rounds, the patio outside the main doors was the site of the 'Senators Fan Fest', with hockey games and music. Indoors, the NHL presented an exhibit of NHL trophies, including the Stanley Cup. A hockey card and memorabilia sale was also held. The 2008 draft lottery was held April 7. The Tampa Bay Lightning retained the first overall selection. There were no changes from the reverse order of finish of the 2007-08 NHL season. Source: NHL Central Scouting Bureau staff.
