Opis - Kompozycja, składająca się z 14 utworów, została napisana dla uczczenia drugiej rocznicy śmierci Jana Pawła II. Proste teksty ks. Mateusza Jeża są hołdem oddanym Matce Bożej. Muzyka Zbigniewa Małkowicza łączy w sobie wiele stylów: smyczki brzmią klasycznie, melodie wpadają w ucho jak popowe przeboje, śpiew chóru zahacza o gospel, a bas wybija chwilami jazzowo-funkowe rytmy. Wszystko razem jest mieszanką przyjemną dla ucha, a dawka liryzmu zawarta w utworach sprzyja modlitewnemu skupieniu.Do udziału w nagraniu płyty Przy sercu Twoim zespół LUMEN zaprosił kilku gości specjalnych. This book addresses the fundamental problems in Russian society, and in Russia's relations with the rest of the world. Why do Russians tend to react differently from 'us' in given diplomatic or business situations? Why do they find the notion of a contract difficult to grasp? Why do they seem hostile to the principle of the level playing field? And how do they see Russia's position within the globalised economy? In order to probe these issues, we begin with a historical analysis, looking at the pattern of political and economic development since Tsarist times, always asking the questions: What is unique to Russia in all this? And which unique features tend to recur in different periods? In seeking to illuminate the interface between Russia and the world, we also examine Russia's attitude to itself, and to its own resources - natural and human; to land as an agricultural resource, and, later, oil and gas; and to people - as cheap labour and as highly trained scientific personnel. This book is firmly based on scholarly sources in English, French and Russian, but aims to go beyond the academic audience to address the concerns of people encountering Russians and Russian organisations in their everyday lives.

The rich variety of the English vocabulary reflects the vast number of words it has taken from other languages. These range from Latin, Greek, Scandinavian, Celtic, French, Italian, Spanish, and Russian to, among others, Hebrew, Maori, Malay, Chinese, Hindi, Japanese, andYiddish. Philip Durkin's full and accessible history reveals how, when, and why. He shows how to discover the origins of loanwords, when and why they were adopted, and what happens to them once they have been. The long documented history of English includes contact with languages in a variety of contexts, including: the dissemination of Christian culture in Latin in Anglo-Saxon England, and the interactions of French, Latin, Scandinavian, Celtic, and English during the Middle Ages; exposure to languages throughout the world during the colonial era; and the effects of using English as an international language of science. Philip Durkin describes these and other historical inputs, introducing the approaches each requires, from the comparative method for the earliest period to documentary and corpus research in the modern. The discussion is illustrated at every point with examples taken from a variety of different sources. The framework Dr Durkin develops can be used to explore lexical borrowing in any language. This outstanding book is for everyone interested in English etymology and in loanwords more generally. It will appeal to a wide general public and at the same time offers a valuable reference for scholars and students of the history of English.

The employment of the first tanks by the British Army on the Western Front in September 1916, although symbolic rather than decisive in its effects, ushered in a new form of warfare - tank warfare. While much has been written on the history of the tank, this volume brings together a collection of essays which uncover new aspects of the history of these early machines. Leading military historians from Britain, France and Germany offer insights into the emergence of the tank before the First World War, during the conflict, as well as what happened to them after the guns fell silent on the Western Front. Based on painstaking research in archives across Europe, each of the chapters sheds new light on different aspects of the history of First World tanks. Two chapters consider why the Germans failed to recognize the possibilities of the tank and why they were so slow to develop their own machines after the first British tank attack in 1916. Two other chapters chart the history of French tanks on the Western Front and after the end of the war. Tank communication, the employment of British tanks on the Western Front, as well as the activities of British Tank Corps intelligence, are also explained. The use of British tanks in Palestine and in the Russian Civil War is examined in detail for the first time. The volume also reflects on the impact of the Battle of Cambrai, both in terms of its psychological impact in Britain and the power it exerted over military debates until the end of the Second World War. The aim of the book is to reconsider the history of First World War tanks by widening the historical perspective beyond Britain, to include France and Germany, and by reflecting on the pre-1914 and post-1918 history of the these new weapons of war.

Q. D. Leavis: Collected Essays 3 Volume Paperback Set Cambridge University Press

Q. D. Leavis was one of the finest critics of the novel. Her published essays appeared as articles and reviews of remarkable trenchancy in Scrutiny (of which she was effectively co-editor with her husband F. R. Leavis), or as lectures or introductions to editions of classics novels. They are here collected and reprinted in three volumes. Volume 1 on the English novel appeared in 1983. Volume 2 collects her lecture 'The American Novel'; essays and lectures on Henry James, Hawthorne, Melville, and Edith Wharton; and the lectures 'The French Novel', 'The Russian Novel', and 'The Italian Novel'. There is an introduction by the editor, Professor G. Singh. All the essays are informed by that broad 'sociological' view of literature that caused Q. D. Leavis to ask how the novel rose and why it flourished. The third and final volume includes material on women writers of the nineteenth century.

Guerin is a prolific writer whose '30's work on fascism is something of a Marxist classic. This emphatically pro-anarchist essay fails to define key polemical terms like "the state": it lacks the informality, and philosophical sensitivity of first-rate French political writing. Noam Chomsky's introduction echoes the view of anarchism as a "libertarian" brand of socialism. Guerin's thematic presentation of nineteenth-century anarchist theory expounds and abundantly excerpts from Proudhon and Bakunin, with ancillary reference to Kropotkin, Stirner, et al. The section on "practice" portrays the Bolsheviks as evil dictators and the Russian anarchists as unsung heroes of 1917, glances at the Italian left of Gramsci's day, and deals richly deserved blows to Stalinist policy in the Spanish Civil War without pursuing the significance of the Spanish anarchists' vacillation between anti-political purity and political opportunism. Guerin concludes with a call for unadulterated postrevolutionary workers' control, quite indifferent to the question of how or why to make a revolution. The habit of "forcing history" which Sartre noted in Guerin's work is here, but not enough of the "enriching" quality, especially with respect to the social roots of anarchism. Yet the subject has enough intrinsic and topical importance to draw a political-intellectual audience. (Kirkus Reviews)

"Who is white, and why should we care? There was a time when the immigrants of New York CityĆs Lower East Sideůthe Irish, the Poles, the Italians, the Russian Jewsůwere not white, but now ôtheyö are. There was a time when the French-speaking working classes of Quebec were told to ôspeak white,ö that is, to speak English. Whiteness is an allegorical category before it is demographic. This volume gathers together some of the most influential scholars of privilege and marginalization in philosophy, sociology, economics, psychology, literature, and history to examine the idea of whiteness. Drawing from their diverse racial backgrounds and national origins, these scholars weave their theoretical insights into essays critically informed by personal narrative. This approach, known as ôbraided narrative,ö animates the work of award-winning author Eula Biss. Moved by BissĆs fresh and incisive analysis, the editors have assembled some of the most creative voices in this dialogue, coming together across the disciplines. Along with the editors, the contributors are Eduardo Bonilla-Silva, Nyla R. Branscombe, Drucilla Cornell, Lewis R. Gordon, Paget Henry, Ernest-Marie Mbonda, Peggy McIntosh, Mark McMorris, Marilyn Nissim-Sabat, Victor Ray, Lilia Moritz Schwarcz, Louise Seamster, Tracie L. Stewart, George Yancy, and Heidi A.
