The Smiths rozpadli się w roku 1987, a Morrissey wraz z wydaniem albumu "Viva Hate", rozpoczął karierę solową. Do roku 1997 nagrywał i koncertował niemal bez przerwy, nastepnie po siedmioletniej przerwie powrócił w 2004 z rewelacyjnym albumem "You Are The Quarry", a następnie, wydanym w 2006 "Ringleader Of The Tormentors". Tym ostatnim albumem zakończył współpracę z Sanctuary Records i wraz z pocztem roku 2008 rozpoczął działalność w ramach nowego kontraktu w wytwórni Decca. Ta kojarzona raczej z muzyką poważną firma, wypuściła podsumowujący dotychczasową solową karierę Morriseya, album "Greatest Hits". Oczywiście nie zabrakło na nim hitów, takich jak "First of the Gang to Die", "Irish Blood, English Heart", "Everyday Is Like Sunday", "Suedehead", "The Last of the Famous International Playboys" czy "I Have Forgiven Jesus". Obok dobrze znanych kompozycji, na płycie pojawiają się także dwa utwory premierowe "That's How People Grow Up" i "All You Need Is Me". Album z wyborem najlepszych utworów Morrisseya, to równocześnie zapowiedź całkowicie premierowego albumu wokalisty, który pojawi się pod koniec roku 2008, także w katalogu Decca.
