As Wilber says, for some Trump voters: "Everywhere you are told that you are fully equal and deserve immediate and complete empowerment, yet everywhere are denied the means to actually achieve it. You suffocate, you suffer, and you get very, very mad." It is only when members of society's leading edge can heal themselves that a new, Integral evolutionary force can emerge to move us beyond the social and political turmoil of our current time to offer genuine leadership toward greater wholeness.

Women's Access to Political Power in Post-Communist Europe Oxford University Press

This book considers women's access to formal positions of powers in the newly formed democracies of post communist Europe. While acknowledging the relevance of recent history, this book takes an important step away from the communist legacy and explicitly argues for a framework based on causal variables identified in the existing literatures from industrialized democracies on women and politics and legislative recruitment After a brief introduction, the second chapter sets forth a general theoretical framework, which posits that the level of female legislative representation in a given country is a function of the relative supply of and demand for female candidates. After a chapter considering a broad overview of public opinion on women and politics in Eastern Europe, thirteen country chapters, spanning the spectrum of Eastern European democracies, address and test hypotheses about the key variables affecting the supply and demand sides of the equation in individual countries.Relevant aspects of the communist cultural and developmental legacy are addressed, but authors give particular attention to political factors, such as electoral rules and the characteristics of the emerging party systems, that vary within the Eastern European countries. The new democracies of Eastern Europe provide a novel context in which to test and extend our theories about the consequences of political institutions for the quality of democracy. Since institutional arrangements are more malleable than developmental or cultural characteristics, those variables also offer the greatest promise to scholars and practitioners wondering what can be done to improve women's access to formal arenas of political power? How can we build democracies that are stable, lasting and representative? A careful analysis of the post-communist context can help us to address issues concerning institutional design and development that has relevance well beyond the Eastern European context.

The collapse of communism has created the opportunity for democracy to spread from Prague to the Baltic and the Black seas. But the alternatives -- dictatorship or totalitarian rule -- are more in keeping with the traditions of Central and Eastern Europe. Will people put up with new democracies which are associated with inflation, unemployment, crime and corruption? Or will they return to some form of authoritarian regime? Half a century ago, Winston Churchill predicted that people will accept democracy with all its faults -- because it is better than anything else that has ever been tried. To find out if Churchill was right, this book analyses a unique source of evidence about public opinion, the New Democracies Barometer, covering the Czech Republic, Hungary, Slovakia, Poland, Slovenia, Bulgaria, Romania, Belarus and Ukraine. The authors find that there is widespread popular support for democracy compared to communism, dictatorship and military rule. People who have been denied democratic freedoms value new political rights more highly. Economic concerns are second in importance.If democracy fails, it will be because political elites have abused their power, not because the public does not want democracy. Looking at post--communist Europe makes us think again about democracy in countries where it is taken for granted. The abrupt transition to democracy in post--communist countries is normal; gradual evolution in the Anglo--American style is the exception to the rule. Complaints in Western countries about democracy being less than ideal reflect confidence that there is no alternative. Post--communist citizens do not have this luxury: they must make the most of what they have. This important book makes an important contribution to current debates about democratization and democratic theory and to the growing literature on the social and political changes taking place in post--communist societies. In Europe, the refugee crisis is a big issue. The Netherlands is one of the most remarkable countries in Europe which accepts a lot of refugees. Refugees are the people who are forced to leave their countries because of war, persecution and conflict. The Syrian refugee crisis is the greatest humanitarian crisis in a generation. The devastating conflict began with the Syrian Civil War in 2011 and then it has become the never-ending complex war. It creates extreme brutality which destroyed economic and national wealth and half a million people have been killed. They escaped from their country and they are bearing the title of a Syrian refugee. The highest numbers of refugee are from Syria in the Netherlands. After coming to the host countries, refugees have to go through many challenges, experiences and difficulties which are known as post-migration stressors. These stressors affect their mental health condition and it hampers their socio-economic integration in the society. For that, in this research, I will try to explain the effect of post-migration stressors on mental health and also how mental health influence the socio-economic integration of refugees.
