Palaea Historica The Second Slavonic Translation: Commentary and Text - Małgorzata Skowronek
Książki & Multimedia > Książki
Opis - The so-called Byzantine Palaea Historica is a text that functioned in the literature and culture of the Byzantine Slavic commonwealth. As a collection of stories on Old Testament themes, which arc basically of biblical origin, it preserves same pre-Christian narrations coming from the Hebrew tradition, as well as same Early Christian apocrypha. Moreover, it represents different interpretations of the Bible. An important component of the Palaea are the poetic fragments -excerpts from the Book of Psalms and from some liturgical poetry by St. John of Damascus, St. Cosmas of Maiuma, and St. Andrew of Crete. In this volume, the presented critical edition of the second Slavic translation of the Palaea Historica is preceded by an introduction, which discusses the origins and characteristics of the literary relic as well as the history of its reception amongst the Slavs. Nazwa - Palaea Historica The Second Slavonic Translation: Commentary and Text Autor - Małgorzata Skowronek Oprawa - Miękka Wydawca - Wydawnictwo Uniwersytetu Łódzkiego Kod ISBN - 9788380880825 Kod EAN - 9788380880825 Rok wydania - 2016 Język - angielski Format - 24.0x16.3 Ilość stron - 204 Podatek VAT - 5% Premiera - 2016-10-21

Posidonius: Volume 3, The Translation of the Fragments Cambridge University Press
Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna
Posidonius was a major intellectual figure of the Hellenistic world whose interests and contribution spread over the whole intellectual field: philosophy, history, the sciences. His writings are of interest not only to philosophers and classicists, but also to historians and history of science. His work survives only in fragments. The text of these fragments, collected and edited by L. Edelstein and I. G. Kidd, was published in 1972 (Vol. I The Fragments), with a second edition in 1989. This collection, along with Vol. II The Commentary by I.G. Kidd (1988), has become established as the definitive modern edition. However, many of the fragments are extremely difficult to translate, and this volume of translations has been compiled to make this interesting material more easily accessible to scholars and students. The translations are accompanied by contextual introductions and explanatory notes where necessary. An Introduction summarises the importance of Posidonius and his work.
