Write. Publish. Repeat. The No-Luck-Required Guide to Publishing In 2013, Johnny B. Truant and Sean Platt published 1.5 million words and made their full-time livings as indie authors. In Write. Publish. Repeat., they tell you exactly how they did it: how they created over 15 independent franchises across 50+ published works, how they turned their art into a logical, sustainable business, and how any independent author can do the same to build a sustainable, profitable career with their writing. Write. Publish. Repeat. explains the current self-publishing landscape and covers the truths and myths about what it means to be an indie author now and in the foreseeable future. It explains how to create books your readers will love and will want to return to again and again. Write. Publish. Repeat. details expert methods for building story worlds, characters, and plots, understanding your market (right down to your ideal reader), using the best tools possible to capture your draft, and explains proven best practices for editing. The book also discusses covers, titles, formatting, pricing, and publishing to multiple platforms, plus a bit on getting your books into print (and why that might not be a good idea!). But most importantly, Write. Publish. Repeat. details the psychology-driven marketing plan that Sean and Johnny built to shape their stories into "products" that readers couldn't help but be drawn into -- thus almost automatically generating sales -- and explores ways that smart, business-minded writers can do the same to future-proof their careers. This book is not a formula with an easy path to follow. It is a guidebook that will help you build a successful indie publishing career, no matter what type of writer you are ... so long as you're the type who's willing to do the work. żżż What Indie Authors and Thought Leaders Are Saying: "Two of the best in the biz... A gem for aspiring authors." -- Hugh Howey "I have a pretty popular blog on self-publishing, and I've written a couple of books on the topic myself - meaning I've read a lot on the topic and come across lots of different strategies and approaches to building a loyal audience. For my money, this is the best book on self-publishing out there." -- David Gaughran "It's tough to find more honest and straight-forward marketing advice than what you'll get from these indie authors." -- Jane Friedman, former publisher of Writer's Digest "The most important book on self-publishing I've ever read. " -- Karol Gajda "Consider it the most valuable guide book to publishing success." -- Jim Kukral, Author Marketing Club You'll Wish You Could Have Read it Years Ago!

Opis - After a break of ten years, the Yearbook of Polish Foreign Policy has been published again by the Polish Institute of International Affairs (PIIA). This is the way it should have been for this whole time, but shortly after its debut, the previous PIIA was put into liquidation. After a short period in the wilderness, it has returned to its proper and"as one might believe"safe harbour. This happened due to the fact that the Diplomatic Academy of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs"the previous publisher of the Yearbook"nów forms part of the Institute. It should be stated here that this publishing instability and the łąck of any long-term prospects at times did not affect negatively the content quality of the Yearbook. It is known, however, how"in the case of periodicals"important such stability is for the finał effect. It gives a chance to prepare each of the volumes in a systematic and comprehensive way, to have a morę stable team of authors (analysts of the Institute), better marketing and distribution as well as allowing morę attractive forms of communication of knowledge concerning Polish foreign policy to be introduced. Oxford Dictionary of National Biography - 2878080666

Oxford Dictionary of National Biography Oxford University Press

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

The Oxford Dictionary of National Biography is a collection of 50,000 specially written biographies of men and women who have shaped all aspects of the British past, from the earliest times to the end of the year 2000. The stories of these lives - told in substantial, authoritative, and readable articles - have been published simultaneously in 60 print volumes and online. Inclusive - Authoritative - Unique The original DNB was conceived in 1882 by George Smith, publisher of the Brontes and Trollope, and first edited by Virginia Woolf's father, Sir Leslie Stephen. The editorial policy of the original DNB was remarkably inclusive: any person of note could be included who had lived in, or had a significant connection with the British Isles. The Oxford DNB takes a similarly inclusive approach: subjects range from the great and the good to the popular, pioneering, eccentric, notorious, and downright criminal. In 'national' scope the pragmatic approach of the original DNB has been retained. The Oxford DNB covers people born in the British Isles; it also includes inhabitants of the USA and Commonwealth countries before independence, many British-born people whose main impact was made overseas, and many who were born elsewhere but whose impact within the United Kingdom was substantial. Everyone included in the old dictionary is in the Oxford DNB but all their biographies have been revised or completely rewritten to reflect modern scholarship. A further 13,500 lives of new subjects broadens the coverage of previously neglected areas in all periods. These include many articles on women and twentieth-century subjects as well as previously under-represented fields such as business and science. Over 1800 people who died between 1991 and 2000 have also been included for the first time. In order to ensure a well-balanced view of a subject we do not include any biographies of people that are still living.Owing to its accessible and authoritative coverage, the Oxford DNB will appeal to a wide readership: from scholarly researchers to university, college, and school students, professional writers to general readers of biography, local and family historians to librarians, archivists, and curators. It is the essential biographical and historical resource for all major libraries. Editorial excellence Like the Oxford English Dictionary the project springs from a remarkable partnership between publisher and scholars. The Oxford DNB is constituted as a research and publishing project of the University of Oxford, with research funding from the British Academy, and all other funding and resources from Oxford University Press. The editor is Professor Brian Harrison (Professor of Modern British History, University of Oxford) who succeeded the founding editor, the late Professor H. C. G. Matthew FBA, in January 2000. Over 30 in-house research scholars, 12 external consultant editors and 400 associate editors made recommendations about new subjects and specialist authors, and reviewed completed work for academic quality. The large community of people contributing to the Oxford DNB is spread around the world and made up of 10,000 academic and non-academic authors. The largest selection of national portraiture ever published The Oxford DNB contains 10,000 portrait illustrations, each shown next to the relevant biography. This special project was completed in partnership with the National Portrait Gallery in London. Drawing on the National Portrait Gallery's own collections and a wide range of other sources, a specialist research team has assembled the largest selection of national portraiture ever published. Images chosen for reproduction range from paintings, drawings, and sculpture to photographs, medals, and death masks.

Journals of the Century Haworth Press

Medycyna > English Division

Get the experts perspective on the top journals of the 20th century! The Journals of the Century project gathered some of America 's top subject expert librarians to determine the most influential journals in their respective fields. Thirty-two contributing authors led by Editor Tony Stankus reviewed journals from over 20 countries that have successfully shaped the evolution of their individual specialties worldwide. Their choices reflect the history of each discipline or profession, taking into account rivalries between universities, professional societies, for-profit and not-for-profit publishers, and even nation-states and international ideologies, in each journal 's quest for reputational dominance. Each journal was judged using criteria such as longevity of publication, foresight in carving out its niche, ability to attract & sustain professional or academic affiliations, opinion leadership or agenda-setting power, and ongoing criticality to the study or practice of their field. Journals of the Century presents wholly independent reviewers; none are in the employ of any publisher, but each is fully credentialed and well published, and many are award-winners. The authors guide college and professional school librarians on limited budgets via an exposition of their analytical and critical winnowing process in determining the classic resources for their faculty, students, and working professional clientele. The chapters are logically grouped together in six clusters that reflect the commonly shared interests of library liaisons and the range of like-minded academic departments they typically serve. These clusters include: The Helping Professionals (chapters on social work, education, psychology, sociology, and library and information sciences) Music, Museums, and Methodists (chapters on visual arts, anthropology, archaeology, philosophy, and the American religious experience) Business and Law (chapters on business and economics, plus legal literature) War and Peace (chapters on modern history, political science and international relations, and military affairs) Physical Sciences and Engineering (chapters on mathematics and the physical sciences as well as engineering and computer science) Life, Health, and Agriculture (chapters on medicine and surgery, pharmacy, physical therapy and nutrition, agriculture, and veterinary medicine) Journals of the Century answers questions such as: Which university press leads in high-ranking titles in the helping professions? In what crime-fighting journal, ironically mentioned within the Music, Museums, and Methodists cluster, do anthropologists routinely publish? What two journals cover the biggest yearly expense of most working Americans and rankly highly within both chapters of the Business and Law cluster? What family of British publications has remained indispensable reading for political and military readers for over a century in the War and Peace Cluster? What society in the Physical Sciences and Engineering cluster publishes more journals than any other publisher in this book, covering topics from light bulbs and computers to MRIs and windmills? What one-word-titled journal has joined the venerable pair of Nature and Science as the most important reporters of world-class breakthroughs in basic biomedical science? and many, many more! Journals of the Century includes extensive commentaries on each cluster by the editor, with graphical representations by world regions and publishing sectors contributing to each chapter. ISSN numbers for print editions, and URL addresses for online editions are provided in a comprehensive title index. This unique book is an essential resource for serials librarians in academia, new reference librarians familiarizing themselves with classic titles, and collection evaluators and college accreditation examiners.

Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Atlas of Anatomy Lippincott Williams & Wilkins

Medycyna > English Division

Featuring more than 750 new, modern images, the Lippincott Williams & Wilkins Atlas of Anatomy is a vibrantly colored regional atlas of human anatomy offering an unprecedented combination of visual aesthetic appeal and anatomical accuracy. Many student-friendly features set this atlas apart from others on the market, including a unique art style featuring bright colors, color coding of anatomical elements, judicious use of labeling, and no extraneous text. Each plate is designed around a teaching/learning objective, providing immediate focus and resulting in easier and faster comprehension. This unique pedagogy, in combination with the atlas' beautiful art style, will make this new anatomy atlas the preferred choice of teachers and students alike. Packaged with the atlas is an online interactive atlas with all of the images, including fully searchable legends and labels and "zoom-and-compare" features. Also included are electronic flash cards that permit students to test their knowledge of newly learned concepts and structures. Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA), 08-JUN-09, Volume 301, Issue 17, Jason M. Organ, PhD, Center for Anatomical Science and Education, Department of Surgery, Saint Louis University School of Medicine, St. Louis, MO -- "As the number of anatomy curriculum hours continues to decrease at many major medical schools, Tank and Gest recognized the need for a new anatomical atlas emphasizing those structures most likely to be taught in the modern curricula. Provided with the unique opportunity to build an original atlas from the ground up, the authors of this fine volume did not disappoint. Drawing on their combined 60 years of classroom teaching experience, they designed an atlas with a strong approach to presenting anatomical information in a sequence not only logical from a teaching perspective but highly accessible to students as well. In fact, the authors' primary intent in their design was to create images that are faster and easier for students to use, because 'speed and ease of use have become critical needs in the era of compressed anatomical curricula'... "In each section, the authors take their audience on a journey from outside in, beginning with surface anatomy and ultimately progressing deeper through different dissection fields. This approach, coupled with consistent viewpoints for the images (ie, specimens are always placed in anatomical position, and perspectives are always directly anterior, posterior, medial, or lateral), makes the information easily accessible to the novice anatomy student and the not-so-novice instructor alike. "One of the most striking differences between this atlas and its contemporaries is the effective use of a ghosting technique in many of the illustrations, wherein a structure passing behind another structure is still visible through the structure in the foreground. The advantage of this technique is that 3-dimensional relationships of important structures-relationships often left to the imagination of the reader in other atlases-can be appreciated in 2 dimensions...Some of the most effective uses of this ghosting technique are found in the illustrations of the inguinal region...Students often struggle to understand which tissue layers of the anterior abdominal wall contribute to the superficial and deep inguinal rings...This ghosting technique not only allows Tank and Gest to show an external view of all 3 muscular layers and the transversalis fascia (with the contents of the inguinal canal appropriately illustrated) but also enables them to 'reverse' the image and present an internal view of the same structures and their 3-dimensional relationships. Indeed, the illustrations and labeling of the pectineal and lacunar ligaments are among the best I have seen, and I often found myself reaching for this atlas when students visited me with questions outside of the dissection laboratory. "In addition to the atlas, the authors and publisher offer a set of online supporting products...For example, all of the illustrations are available in an interactive, electronic format, enabling students to search images and compare features across images. Students can also use the interactive labeling exercises available online to test their individual knowledge of anatomy in preparation for examinations. "In short, this is a modern atlas constructed to complement a modern anatomy curriculum and designed to meet the needs of modern, computer-s

Quaestiones Geographicae 25: Spatial aspects of the Polish transformation Uniwersytet Adama Mickiewicza w Poznaniu

GEODEZJA I KARTOGRAFIA

The book you are holding is the 25th volume of the journal Quaestiones Geographicae, and also the first volume of its new series B entitled "Human Geography and Spatial Management". This is a good occasion to outline briefly the history of the journal and its prospects. Quaestiones Geographicae was established in 1974 as an annual of the then Institute of Geography, Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań. Its first editor was Prof. Dr hab. Stefan Kozarski. Initially the scope of the journal covered issues in both physical and socio-economic geography; since 1982, exclusively physical geography. In 2006 there appeared the idea of a return to the original conception of the journal, although in a somewhat modified organisational form. Starting with volume 25, Quaestiones Geographicae will include two series, A - Physical Geography and B - Human Geography and Spatial Management. Each year the given volume will contain two numbers, one in each series. The publisher of the journal is the Faculty of Geographical and Geological Sciences of Adam Mickiewicz University in Poznań. The first number of the new series, prepared on the occasion of a conference of the International Geographical Union in Brisbane, contains articles presenting the latest achievements of the Faculty in socio-economic geography. However, it is the publisher's intention to make the journal increasingly international in scope. We hope to invite authors from a variety of centres all over the world, representing not only geosciences but also other disciplines (like spatial planning, regional economics, and environmental science) to send their contributions that can be subsumed under the Human Geography and Spatial Management series. Preferably, they should be works with a deep theoretical background, overviews, or comparative studies of interest to an international readership.  The first number of the series is theme-oriented and devoted to spatial aspects of the postcommunist transformation in Poland. Fifteen years of the transformation of the socio-economic system is a period long enough to allow some generalisations. The articles collected in the book address key issues of the transformation, such as the role of a knowledge-based economy in regional development (Z. Chojnicki, T. Czyż), the first experiences of regional policy after Poland's accession to the European Union (P. Churski, T. Stryjakiewicz), the transformation of towns and cities (J. Parysek), rural areas (B. Głębocki, A. Kołodziejczak) and large industrial enterprises (H. Rogacki), and finally the issue of transborder and inter-territorial co-operation of Polish communes and regions (T. Kaczmarek). Spis treści: TADEUSZ STRYJAKIEWICZ: Introduction    ZBYSZKO CHOJNICKI, TERESA CZYŻ: The role of knowledge in the shaping of a knowledge-based economy and economic development of Poland: a regional approach    PAWEŁ CHURSKI, TADEUSZ STRYJAKIEWICZ: New experiences of Polish regional policy in the first years of membership in the European Union    JERZY J.
