Jean-Philippe Rameau - jeden z najwybitniejszych francuskich kompozytorów. Autor oper i oper baletowych (m.in. "Les Indes galantes", "Castor et Pollux"). Tworzył też dzieła kameralne, taneczne, kantaty i muzykę kościelną. Zoroastre po polsku Zaratusztra, to legendarny perski prorok, uznawany za reformatora mazdaizmu, twórcę zaratusztrianizmu. Przypisuje się mu autorstwo najstarszych części Awesty. Autorem libretta tej pięcio aktowej opery z elementami baletu był Louis de Cahusac. Opera miała swoją premierę w paryskiej l'Académie Royale de Musique 5 grudnia 1749 roku. Na ówczesne czasy temat opery był bardzo nowatorski, mimo to opera trzyma się barokowej konwencji. Opera nie często wystawiana na deskach teatrów, tym bardziej godna polecenia i poznania. Spektakl został nagrany w 2006 roku w Drottningholms Slottsteater na wyspie Drottningholm koło Sztokholmu. Reżyserem spektaklu jest Pierre Audi, a orkiestrę The Drottningholm Theatre Orchestra poprowadził Christophe Rousset.
