For the past fifteen years my work has led me into the exploration of the unconscious. Through my work as a holistic healer, with thousands of dream analysis interpretations, and altered states of consciousness achieved in meditation, I have an inner window in which to explore this hidden part of nature and discover what we truly are. The symbolic nature of our unconscious minds provides great insight into the nature of an individual's needs, helping to bring balance and understanding to the challenges of health and well-being. Working with my unconscious self I became convinced that the life within is equal to the waking state. The shift in consciousness through such techniques has enabled me to be aware of this great expanse of human nature and existences that lie beyond. Through such investigations, a series of conversations took place which I further explored through the medium of poetry. What follows is a journey, establishing an understanding to the tentative beginnings of the human race and the awareness that we are not alone within these inner states; that there is a forgotten branch of being that needs to be remembered and restored in each of our minds for the purpose of our own evolution. These conversations are presented as I heard them with very little editing, apart from the removal of personal data. As you the reader reads, the purpose of this book is taking place. The restoration of this hidden branch of being is restored into your mind. Whether you choose to understand it as fiction or reality is your choice and does not hamper in anyway the purpose of this book. If you the reader wish to join in, in your own inner journey then it is essential that you keep a diary for recording your dreams, we all dream every night but not all of us remember our inner experiences this can be rectified by either setting an alarm to wake you in the early hours helping you to lighten your sleep, or a cup of tea before bed should keep you from drifting to deeply. Do not judge of dismiss dreams that you have recalled how ever small or irreverent they may seem, record them in your diary. Dreams are an axis point for your own excursions into the collective unconscious. The collective unconscious can be used to ask questions and receive answers through the medium of dreams, they are best interpreted by seeing the recalled event in symbols, for instance a dream of a bird tapping at your window would carry with it a symbolic meaning which you the dreamer can now begin to understand, dreams are not fixed of static they have many layers of meaning it is up to the dreamer to apprehend which is most relevant, in this case first note what type of bird is tapping at the window an eagle is very different from a sparrow, note there own particular skills and talents, birds because they have the ability to fly and live off the land are symbols of gifts, symbols of your own flights of consciousness, tapping at your window indicates such gifts offer you a window of opportunity, be mindful of the room in which the window is in for it offers more understanding to the symbolic understanding being given, it would indicate you as the dreamer have gifts that need to be given the opportunity to take flight. This is the way to view all dream material, recall as much detail as you can write it down in your diary and over time with dedicated persistence they will provide you with great insight to your waking and dreaming world. When reading the conversations and poetry that follow you can use your own dreams to question and gather your own deep understanding to this quest.

Working in industry as a Chemical Engineer boring ... who says it is? Most people consider working in the Industrial world to be fairly mundane and boring. Well I am able to contradict that erroneous belief. My forty years in industry have been far from ordinary and unexciting. In fact those years have been so eventful and exhilarating, I felt compelled to put events, incidents and a plethora of eclectic, fascinating characters into print and write about my career as a Chemical Engineer from the late sixties to the beginning of the eighties. While I typed away, it occurred to me, these stories are so way out, fantastic and implausible, no-one will believe a word of it. Using that old cliché, fact is often stranger than fiction. Read more and make your own mind up, as it is indeed Lifeżs Rich Mix.

After his brush with death Ross O'Carroll-Kelly - schools rugby legend, award-winning author and lover of the ladeez - is back with a renewed lust for life - all thrillingly revealed in "The Shelbourne Ultimatum". Ross wakes up from his coma to find a country that has changed beyond recognition. Shrewsbury Road has become a ghost estate. Marks and Spencer are selling microwavable coddle. And a Euro discount store is about to open in the Powerscourt Townhouse Centre. And he was only unconscious for twenty-four hours. But never mind all that. The main thing is that whoever tried to kill him missed all his vital organs. All his vital organs. And having had such a lucky escape Ross vows not to waste another minute of his life. There are thousands of women out there and just one Ross to go around. He needs to focus. Of course, life gets in the way. He has a daughter who hates him, a son who is growing up way too fast and a soon-to-be-ex wife who is resorting to increasingly desperate measures to stop the bank from repossessing the house. Oh, and the Gords - get this! - think he's lying to them. Lying? Ross? "Ross' misadventures and on-the-nose observations never fail to provoke a laugh-out-loud reaction ...bursting at the seams with spot-on parody". ("Irish Times"). "Will leave you with pains in your cheeks from laughing". ("RTE Guide"). The "Shelbourne Ultimatum" is the twelfth novel in Paul Howard's "Ross O'Carroll-Kelly" series. Ross books have sold half a million copies, are annually nominated for the Popular Fiction prize at the Irish Book Awards - where they have twice won the prize - and are also critically acclaimed as satirical masterpieces. Titles include "The Curious Incident of the Dog in the Nightdress", "Should have Got off at Sydney Parade", "This Champagne Mojito is the Last Thing I Own", "Rhino What You Did Last Summer", "NAMA Mia!" and "The Oh My God Delusion". The last of these was chosen as Ireland's favourite book in Eason's 125th birthday poll.

Hi I'm Sophie; I'd like to tell you a story. I'm a student, was until persuaded to drop out and head off to find some real life experiences, it didn't turn out as I had hoped. My one ambition, maybe one day 'that special book,' struggling with my emotions, so confused by girls, especially 'Calley' also by boys, but 'Richard?' well he's different, did I really believe that? I'm working for that famous author in 'Glanymore' but finding strange things concerning those in and around my work place. Well it finally happened, that morning awake but a little confused surely that battle scene had passed, no that was my book, this was here in Glanymore. My mind said this can't be happening but it was, and suddenly... Oh sorry I'm getting ahead of myself... But just to remind you, I'm eighteen, slim build, 'no not thin' with golden red hair, a mass of curls down to my waist, some of my friends called me 'Goldilocks', I should say my 'late friends', also two glasses of wine is my limit, but struggling. And not just on the drinks.

Letter from America Penguin

Powieści i opowiadania

When Alistair Cooke retired in March 2004 and then died a few weeks later, he was acclaimed by many as one of the greatest broadcasters of all time. His Letters from America, which began in 1946 and continued uninterrupted every week until early 2004, kept the world in touch with what was happening in Cooke's wry, liberal and humane style. This selection, made largely by Cooke himself and supplemented by his literary executor, gives us the very best of these legendary broadcasts. Over half have never appeared in print before. It is a remarkable portrait of a continent - and a man. Fred Astaire 26 June 1987 Movie stars don't make it. Nor statesmen. Not Prime Ministers, or dictators unless they die in office. Not even a world-famous rock star, unless he's assassinated. But last Monday, none of the three national television networks hesitated about the story that would lead the evening news. On millions of little screens in this country and I don't doubt in many other countries around the world, the first shots were of an imp, a graceful wraith, a firefly in impeccable white tie and tails. And for much longer than the lead story usually runs, for a full five minutes on NBC, we were given a loving retrospective of the dead man, ending with the firm declaration by Nureyev that 'He was not just the best ballroom dancer, or tap dancer, he was simply the greatest, most imaginative, dancer of our time.' And the newsmen were right to remind us of the immortal comment of the Hollywood mogul, who, with the no-nonsense directness of an expert, reported on Fred Astaire's first film test: 'Has enormous ears, can't act, can't sing, dances a little.' That Hollywood mogul, long gone, spent his life ducking round corners, to avoid being identified as the oaf who looked in the sky and never saw the brightest star. However, that expert opinion was, as the lawyers say, controlling at the time and in Astaire's first movies, there was no thought of allowing him to act or sing. But not for long. And thanks to the invention of television, and the need to fill vast stretches of the afternoon and night with old movies, it has been possible for my daughter, for instance, to claim Fred Astaire as her favourite film star from the evidence of all the movies he made fifteen, ten, five, three years before she was born. When I got the news on Monday evening here, and realized with immediate professional satisfaction that the BBC had smartly on hand a musical obituary tribute to him I put together eight years ago, I couldn't help recalling the casual, comic way this and similar radio obituaries came about. I was in London at the end of 1979, and Richard Rodgers - one of the two or three greatest of American songwriters - had just died, I believe on New Year's Eve or the night before. Britons, by then, were getting accustomed, without pain, to making what used to be a two-day Christmas holiday into a ten-day much-needed rest. For all laborious research purposes, the BBC was shut up. And there was no retrospective programme on the life and music of Richard Rodgers in the BBC's archives. Of course, in a gramophone library that looks like an annex to the Pentagon, there were hundreds, perhaps thousands, of recordings of his songs. The SOS went out to a writer, a producer, and - I presume - a man who had the key to the gramophone library. The silent place was unlocked, and the three of them laboured through the day to put together an hour's tribute to Richard Rodgers. It was done. It was competent enough, but rushed to an impossible deadline. This hasty improvisation happened just when my own music producer and I, who had enjoyed working together for six years or so on American popular music, were wondering what we could offer next. We'd done a sketch history of jazz, through individuals. We'd gone through all the popular music of the 1920s, 1930s and 1940s, and were stumped for a new series, at which point I asked if we mightn't go and talk to the head of the channel, network or whatever. We went in, and the genial boss asked me what we had in mind. 'A morgue,' I said. A what? 'Where', I asked, 'is your morgue?' He was not familiar with the word, a newspaper term. 'Well,' I said, 'all newspapers have them.' 'How d'you mean?' 'If, I explained, 'Mrs Thatcher died tonight and you woke up and read a two-sentence obituary, you'd be rightly outraged. But if you saw a two-page obituary, you'd take it for granted. When d'you suppose it was written?' 'That's right,' he said thoughtfully. What I was proposing was a morgue of the Americans eminent in popular music and jazz, so they'd not get caught short again. A splendid idea, the man said; pick your stars. We made a list and were commissioned to return to America and finish all of them. Naturally, we looked at a calendar, and birthdates of Hoagy Carmichael, Earl Hines, Harold Arlen, Ethel Merman, Stephane Grappelli, Ella Fitzgerald. But then, in a spasm of panic, we thought of two giants - if the word can be used about two comparative midgets: Irving Berlin and Fred Astaire. Berlin was then 91. And Fred Astaire was just crowding 80. The boss man, to whom the idea of a morgue had been, only a few minutes before, quaint if not morbid, wondered what we were waiting for. Better get busy, at once, on Berlin and then on Astaire. I remember doing the Astaire obit, then and there, while I was still in London. Meanwhile, we'd simply pray every night that the Lord would keep Irving Berlin breathing till I could get home and get busy. I remember being picked up in a car by a charming young girl to get to the BBC and record my Astaire narration - there wasn't a moment to lose. She asked me, in the car, what the script was that I was clutching. 'It's an obituary', I said, 'of Fred Astaire.' 'Fred Astaire,' she shrieked, 'dead?' and almost swerved into a bus. 'Of course, he's not dead,' I said, 'but he's going to be one day.' She, too, was new to the institution of a morgue. I recalled that when I was a correspondent for a British paper in the United States, and when for example. Dean Acheson was appointed Secretary of State, the first cable I had from my editor said, 'Welcome Acheson obituary soonest.' How ghoulish, she said. I imagine that to two generations at least, it's assumed that Fred Astaire, this slim, pop-eyed newcomer to Hollywood who couldn't act, couldn't sing, danced a little, only made a fool of the mogul through the movies he made, with Ginger Rogers, in the mid- and late 1930s. But long before then, from the mid-1920s on, he was already an incomparable star - as a dancer - to theatre audiences both in New York and in London. Perhaps more in London than anywhere, certainly in the 1920s, with the early Gershwin hits, Funny Face and Lady Be Good, and lastly, in 1933, in Cole Porter's Gay Divorce (which was the title of the theatre show; Hollywood would not then allow so shocking a title and called the movie version, The Gay Divorcee). Of all the thousands of words that have been written this week, and will be written, there is a passage I went back to on Tuesday night which, I think, as well as anything I know, sums up Astaire's overall appeal - the appeal that takes in but transcends one's admiration for his dancing and for his inimitably intimate singing style. This was written in November 1933, by a theatre critic who had so little feel for dancing that he marvelled why London should go on about 'Mr Astaire's doing well enough what the Tiller Girls at Blackpool do superbly'. The critic, the writer, was James Agate, the irascible, dogmatic, opinionated but brilliant journalist, and I believe the best critic of acting we have had this century. He is writing his review of Gay Divorce, after declaring yet again his contempt for musical comedy as an entertainment for idiots, deploring the play's plot and the acting and hoping 'Micawberishly, for something to turn up'. 'Presently,' he wrote, 'Mr Fred Astaire obliged, and there is really no more to be said.' Except

Images as means of expression have fascinated and spoken to me for a long time. Yet it has been a far-reaching and circuitous journey to syn thesize imagery and visual expression in the present form. Early in my life my interest in images expressed itself in art, first as a young child drawing, then responding to works of art and enjoying the life conveyed through colors, forms, and lines that created recognizable images and suggested different moods. The centering, transformative, and spir itual aspects of art emerged as I sought out art in times of personal turmoil. I returned to the expressive aspects of art through my training as a painter. Later I discovered in my own art, as well as in others' expressions, as a teacher and an art therapist, that many times we ex press more through visual means than we are consciously aware of doing. The writings of art therapy pioneers Naumburg (1950, 1953, 1966) and Ulman (1961, 1965) and Rhyne's (1973) gestalt art therapy provided a framework for my own observations. Workshops and literature on guided imagery opened another door to the inner experience through images. The discovery of Jung's concept of archetypes helped me to integrate images into a mind/body frame bridging from the biological roots of the archetypal images to the spiritual aspects of our existence.

O Bodku i Sławku wiemy, że grali niegdyś w Agressivie 69, byli prekursorami industrialnego rocka w Polsce i stosowania samplingu w produkcji muzyki. "Lisbon" uwodzi tęskną partią gitary i rozmarzonym głosem Łukasza Lacha. W "Clear Your Mind" taneczny rytm electro wnosi pastelową elektronikę - a wokalista L. Stadt zaskakuje eterycznym falsetem. "Parys (Aleksander)" z Belą Komoszyńską przy mikrofonie mógłby z powodzeniem znaleźć się na którejś z płyt Cocteau Twins. Hania Malarowska z grupy Hanimal nadaje "Sun & Gun" zwiewną lekkość, a że potrafi się odnaleźć również wśród chrzęszczących bitów - świadczy zaśpiewany po polsku "Świst". Justyna Kabała ozdabia swym głosem mrocznej divy w stylu Marleny Dietrich rozmyty "Ravioli A La Russe". Potrafią oni, dbając o piękno melodii i wyrazistość nastroju, nie zaniechać wycyzelowanej produkcji i osadzenia swych utworów w szerokim kontekście popkultury. Dlatego post-punkowy niepokój miesza się tu z trip-hopowym smutkiem, psychodeliczna wizyjność z taneczną rytmiką, a shoegaze'owe wycofanie z tajemniczą zmysłowością. Steven E. Hodes, M.D., initially trained in traditional, high-caliber medical programs that led him through graduation at the Albert Einstein Medical School and to a fellowship at Mount Sinai Hospital. But many years later, he saw something vital missing in his approach to healthcare. I was trained as a physician, not a healer...taught to view the patient as a machine suffering from some mechanical failure. My purpose was to be the best diagnostician possible, he explains. Then events occurred that opened the eyes of this now veteran physician to deep insights about the mind-body-spirit connection. That awakening moved him to a metaphysical view of health-a view more spiritual than religious, but still firmly grounded in science. Embracing his role as a metaphysician, he also began to see himself as a meta-physician, or doctor transformed (meta) by this new awareness. In this book, Hodes describes his journey to becoming a metaphysician on call. He points out profound, yet simple, observations and beliefs that affect our perception of the nature of reality-metaphysics-which, in turn, can largely affect our well-being in all senses-body, mind, and spirit. We all can and should take responsibility for our own well-being on all levels, he explains. This book is designed to inspire us to ask our own questions, and gather our own evidence to enhance all areas of our lives and well-being, and so find healing and peace.

"There are three things all wise men fear: the sea in storm, a night with no moon, and the anger of a gentle man."§My name is Kvothe. §I have stolen princesses back from sleeping barrow kings. I burned down the town of Trebon. I have spent the night with Felurian and left with both my sanity and my life. I was expelled from the University at a younger age than most people are allowed in. I tread paths by moonlight that others fear to speak of during day. I have talked to Gods, loved women, and written songs that make the minstrels weep. §You may have heard of me. §So begins the tale of a hero told from his own point of view-a story unequaled in fantasy literature. Now in The Wise Man's Fear, Day Two of The Kingkiller Chronicle , an escalating rivalry with a powerful member of the nobility forces Kvothe to leave the University and seek his fortune abroad. Adrift, penniless, and alone, he travels to Vintas, where he quickly becomes entangled in the politics of courtly society. While attempting to curry favor with a powerful noble, Kvothe uncovers an assassination attempt, comes into conflict with a rival arcanist, and leads a group of mercenaries into the wild, in an attempt to solve the mystery of who (or what) is waylaying travelers on the King's road. §All the while, Kvothe searches for answers, attempting to uncover the truth about the mysterious Amyr, the Chandrian, and the death of his parents. Along the way, Kvothe is put on trial by the legendary Adem mercenaries, is forced to reclaim the honor of the Edema Ruh, and travels into the Fae realm. There he meets Felurian, the faerie woman no man can resist, and who no man has ever survived...until Kvothe. §In The Wise Man's Fear , Kvothe takes his first steps on the path of the hero and learns how difficult life can be when a man becomes a legend in his own time.

What is it like to be smarter than 95% of the people you meet? Fifty-four-year-old Alison says, "They told me I was smart and I cried. I wanted to be sexy, or glamorous!" Jean, 38, laments, "I learned the whole job in six weeks, and now I'm bored." Gifted Grownups, Marylou Kelly Streznewski's unprecedented, 10-year study of 100 gifted adults, examines how being identified as a "smart kid" early on affects career choices, friendships, and romantic pairings later in life. Why do some talented and gifted people become Mozarts and Einsteins or corporate chieftains, while others drop out of school, struggle to hold down jobs, or turn to self-destructive behavior? What are the signs of giftedness, its pitfalls, and its promise? Marylou Streznewski provides answers to these and other questions, and creates an intriguing picture of what it is like to have an accelerated mind in a slow-moving world. Traditionally, the gifted were measured in terms of intelligence only, and anyone with an IQ score higher than 130 was automatically grouped in with that misunderstood minority. Recently "giftedness" has been redefined to include qualities like extraordinary creative, leadership, or physical skills. Heightened perception, sensitivity, humor, and the ability to put complex ideas together quickly are also aspects of giftedness. These gifts affect the way talented adults react to their friends, families, jobs, and life challenges. Doing for gifted grownups what the bestselling Driven to Distraction did for adults with attention deficit, Gifted Grownups traces many types of gifted adults, including the high-testing, power-achieving Striver; the popular scholar or athlete Superstar; and the creative intellectual, free-spirit Independent. Here for the first time and in their own words, 100 gifted grownups, from ages 18 to 90, and a variety of family and educational backgrounds, occupations, social classes, and races, count the blessings and tally the costs of a high-powered mind. "Highly informative and interesting."--Alice Miller, author of The Drama of the Gifted Child "This book was a delight. It affirmed my own experiences and observations. The author makes her study come alive ...through the voices of real people talking about their experiences...I highly recommend this book. i--Joanne Rand Whitmore, PhD, Professor and Dean College and Graduate School of Education, Kent State University "Many readers will recognize their own experiences.--Lita Linzer Schwartz, PhD, ABPP Distinguished Professor Emerita, Pennsylvania State University. "This thoughtful book ...has taken us one step further in our understanding of how and why some talented individuals realize their potential while others do not."--Dr. Sally M. Reis, Professor of Educational Psychology, The University of Connecticut. "Gifted Grownups meets a long-awaited need. This book would be of interest, not only to gifted education professionals, but also to parents, teachers in general, and to gifted individuals of all ages.--E. Paul Torrance, Georgia Studies of Creative Behavior, author of Gifted and Talented Children in the Regular Classroom. ISBN 0-471-29580-9
