Opis - Pierwsze na świecie świadectwo ofiary zbrodni honorowej. Miała siedemnaście lat i zakochała się: zhańbiła rodzinę. Więc rodzina wydała na nią wyrok śmierci... Pokochała go pierwszą miłością. Myślała, że się z nią ożeni. Ale ukochany zniknął, a ona odkryła, że jest w ciąży. A w jej świecie to najcięższa zbrodnia... Wyrok wydaje jej ojciec. Szwagier dokonuje egzekucji. Oblewa Souad benzyną i podpala... Holy Scriptures in Ireland One Thousand Years Ago Forgotten Books

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

Excerpt from The Holy Scriptures in Ireland One Thousand Years Ago: Selections From the Würtzburg Glosses The Commentary from which the following selections are taken is preserved in the University (formerly the Cathedral) library of Würtzburg, in Germany, where it has been from time immemorial. Nothing is known of the person by whom, or the time at which, it was brought there; but as Würtzburg was frequented by Irish ecclesiastics in the eleventh and twelfth centuries, and its monastery was of Irish foundation, there is little doubt that the manuscript was brought from Ireland by one of the many pilgrims who passed over to the Continent: and he happily placed it in the safe depository where it still remains. It contains a Latin version of St. Paul's Epistles, with Irish glosses or comments written between the lines of the text and round the margin, as shown in the facsimile. They terminate at Hebrews vii. 5. The manuscript has no date, but the language of the glosses is pronounced by competent authority to be of the eighth or the beginning of the ninth century. How early this is may be judged from a few historical facts. Charlemagne was probably reigning at Aix-la-Chapelle, or at least he could not have been long in his grave; Alfred of England had not yet ascended the throne; two centuries or more had to elapse before the consummation of the great schism between the Churches of the East and West, and more than three before the Anglo-Norman conquest of Ireland. Opis - Pomiędzy podartym papierem a słomą Nina znalazła przyczepione lustro, które emanowało negatywną energią. Dziewczynkę z Szóstego Księżyca przeszły dreszcze na zmianę z uderzeniami gorąca. Pobladła. Jej przyjaciele wyciągnęli z kieszeni swoje Taldomy. Nazwa - Nina i Złota Liczba. Tom 5. Record of European Armour and Arms, Vol. 5 Forgotten Books

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

Excerpt from A Record of European Armour and Arms, Vol. 5: Through Seven Centuries This volume closes the late Sir Guy Laking's "History of European Armour and Arms." The Baron de Cosson in his introduction told us something of the author. As one of his more recent friends, I should like to add a few words. Guy Francis Laking, the only son of Sir Francis the first baronet, a well-known physician of his time, was born on the 21st of October, 1875. As a little boy he was intensely interested in arms and armour, and before me lies an essay on "The Sword of Joan of Arc," written when he was ten years old. He was educated at Westminster School. While there he would often steal away to Christie's to wander through their Galleries, and so numerous were his visits that the late Mr. Woods noticed the boy, and after asking his name called on Sir Francis Laking to inquire about him. The visit resulted in young Laking going to Christie's. It was there that he acquired his knowledge. For years he worked steadily; his work was from the beginning his great interest, and at an age when most men enter a profession he was already sufficiently qualified to express an expert opinion on many kinds of works of art. He remained at Christie's until he died, and his last catalogues of armour, which were those of the Breadalbane and Kennedy collections, show how wide was his knowledge of the subject. His catalogues were growing to be more and more authorities for reference; in his hands they ceased to be merely lists of names and numbers. When he died his name as a great judge of armour was known all over Europe. On mediaeval and renaissance works of art and on pictures his opinion was widely sought, and although he did not pretend to be a judge of furniture, porcelain, or tapestry, his criticism was greatly valued. He was passionately attracted from his earliest age by Chinese and Japanese art, to the study of which he always said he hoped one day to devote himself. Collections, Vol. 5 (Classic Reprint) Forgotten Books

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

Excerpt from Collections, Vol. 5 The fourth volume of the Wisconsin Historical Collections was published in 1859; nine years elapsed, however, before its successor appeared. The outbreak of the War of Secession, with its enormous State expenditures, led to retrenchment in every possible direction. Among the publications issued under the patronage of the young Commonwealth were the Collections; but this being one of the enterprises not essential to the life of the State, very naturally it was in 1860 suspended by special act. Six years later, the war being concluded, the legislature authorized (chapter 135, Laws of 1866) a new volume, to be issued in three successive parts of a hundred and fifty pages each, during the years 1867, 1868, and 1869. Dr. Draper found it inconvenient to commence publication in 1867, but in the latter part of the following year published the three parts simultaneously. These were, however, bound separately, and in paper covers - part I, comprising pp. 1-160; part II, pp. 161-320; and part III, pp. 321-416, besides a general index to all. Issued in that ephemeral form, these parts were easily separated from each other, so that after a few years only persons accustomed to book collecting or having the library habit, possessed the three intact. The result was, that a complete set of volume v soon became known the country over as a rarity. The Society's own stock, although carefully husbanded, was quite exhausted as early as 1888, twenty years after publication; and collectors of Wisconsiniana have at any time within the past fifteen years often paid second-hand dealers for this volume as much as ten and twelve dollars.
