Opis - Pierwsze na świecie świadectwo ofiary zbrodni honorowej. Miała siedemnaście lat i zakochała się: zhańbiła rodzinę. Więc rodzina wydała na nią wyrok śmierci... Pokochała go pierwszą miłością. Myślała, że się z nią ożeni. Ale ukochany zniknął, a ona odkryła, że jest w ciąży. A w jej świecie to najcięższa zbrodnia... Wyrok wydaje jej ojciec. Szwagier dokonuje egzekucji. Oblewa Souad benzyną i podpala... The book does justice to its subject, fully illustrating the breadth of Piano's vision. Beautifully shot and presented, it gives the reader an insight into the development of an architect's work. A great addition to the bookshelves." Interior Design Magazine , London "The array of buildings by Renzo Piano is staggering in scope and comprehensive in the diversity of scale, material, and form. He is truly an architect whose sensibilities represent the widest range of this and earlier centuries." Such was the description of Renzo Piano given by the Pritzker Prize jury citation as they bestowed the prestigious award on him in 1998.Whereas some architects have a signature style, what sets Piano apart is that he seeks simply to apply a coherent set of ideas to new projects in extraordinarily different ways. "One of the great beauties of architecture is that each time, it is like life starting all over again," Piano says. "Like a movie director doing a love story, a Western, or a murder mystery, a new world confronts an architect with each project." This explains why it takes more than a superficial glance to recognize Piano's fingerprints on such varied projects as the Pompidou Center in Paris (1971

The Angels Ask: Are You Ready? The one question that you are asked is, "Are you ready?" A bigger story is now unfolding, and it is your choice whether to be part of that story or watch it unfold from the sidelines. The greatest gift you have is being alive in a body at this time of immense changes and the opportunity to follow your path of truth and light. Human consciousness is ascending as a whole, along with Earth's vibration to its next evolutionary step. You, the one following your heart, are being asked to be one of the columns that support the bridge now being built to a new level of consciousness. Every transition aspires to be organic in form and pace to allow the ones who are destined to pave this road to build these bridges, creating a new roadmap for others to follow. This is what you are called to do and be. You are asked if you are ready to be part of that bridge and embody the pathway for others to follow. You are asked if you are ready to live from your heart, breathe from your heart, communicate from your heart, act from your heart, think from your heart, and feel from your heart. You are asked to be a pulsating, throbbing heart of light, opening and charting a new vibration for others to live by example. You are asked to be in that frequency all the time, even when you are asleep. Are you ready? We are not asking you to imagine it in some esoteric way; we are asking you to be it. And So Be It is you building a bridge that was never there before and taking a road that did not exist, paving it so the whole frequency of human consciousness aligns via the new coherent resonance that you are embodying through your heart. This is your potential and what this book is all about. You have asked to move higher. We have given you the roadmap. It is on you to step forward and manifest it. It's time.
Glasgow Central Station Through Time Amberley Publishing
Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna
Originally opened in August 1879, Central Station became a Glasgow landmark and one of Scotland's great buildings following a rebuild between 1901 and 1905 supervised by Caledonian Railway chief engineer Donald Matheson. The Edwardian ticket offices and information building still survive, as does the Central Hotel, while the glass-walled bridge which carries the station building over Argyle Street, known as the 'Hielenman's Umbrella', is one of the iconic views of the city. Generations of Glaswegians have used the station as a thoroughfare, while also taking in its hustle and bustle. Among the changes experienced by Glasgow, it has been a solid reminder of the city's industrial and commercial heritage. This great building has seen the rise of Glasgow's industrial age and has grown with it. It has also seen the decline in our industries but has risen again in splendid glory, reflecting a new-found confidence in the people of Glasgow.
A Primer of Higher Space (the Fourth Dimension) Cosimo Classics
Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna
Think of the fourth dimension, not as a new region in space... but as a principle of growth, of change... -from "The Fourth Dimension as Time" This 1913 treatise on the intersection of the mystical and the mathematical implied by Einstein's 1905 special theory of relativity is now considered a classic of philosophical physics. Claude Bragdon here first proposed the now mathematically commonplace concept of the "hypercube," or four-dimensional cube (he incorporated 4-D designs into some of his architectural projects), and explores his radical and provocative ideas about the mathematical structure of the universe. Complete with a gallery of Bragdon's gorgeous line drawings illustrating higher space, this is a truly mind-expanding experience. Other works by Bragdon available from Cosimo Classics: More Lives Than One, The Beautiful Necessity, Architecture and Democracy, and Episodes from An Unwritten History. American architect, stage designer, and writer CLAUDE FAYETTE BRAGDON (1866-1946) helped found the Rochester Architectural Club, in the city where he made his greatest mark as a building designer with structures including Rochester Central Station, Rochester Institute of Technology, and the First Universalist Church; he also designed Peterborough Bridge in Ontario. In later life, Bragdon worked on Broadway as scenic designer for 1930s productions of Cyrano de Bergerac and Hamlet, among others.

King in Yellow Chicago Center for Literature and Photography
Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna
It's the hit HBO show from the 21st century, True Detective, that has brought Robert W. Chambers' 1895 book of "weird" stories back into the mainstream public eye for the first time in 120 years; but those in the know have been aware of The King in Yellow this entire time, with its Wikipedia page listing such modern notables as H.P. Lovecraft, Raymond Chandler, and Blue Oyster Cult as fans who have self-professed this book as a major influence. And why shouldn't they? An inauspicious volume from an artist just starting his career, who up to then had been a visual painter who suddenly switched mediums without any given explanation, there wasn't much of a reason to expect great things from this mid-list story collection; but it turned out to be one of the very first volumes to help define what horror became in the modern era, the fabled "bridge between Edgar Allen Poe and Stephen King" that's been cited since in so many term papers on the subject. A meta "stories about stories about stories" project that was also one of the first tales of existential dread ever published (the major force driving Lovecraft's "Cthulhu" mythology as well), and with the kind of elaborate alt-history world-building usually only seen in space operas, this is truly a 20th-century text that magically first appeared in the 19th, and it's no surprise that it still has the power to legitimately creep people out well into the 21st. Come enter the dark world of Carcosa, where the yellow king rules over the black stars in a flat circle of time, and see why these powerful tales of madness and the spiritual abyss still hold our fascination more than a century later. (The first in the Chicago Center for Literature and Photography's new "CCLaP Victoriana" series, this edition also features an exclusive new scholarly introduction by executive director Jason Pettus.)

Gain all of the techniques, teachings, tools, and methodologies required to be an effective first-time product manager. The overarching goal of this book is to help you understand the product manager role, give you concrete examples of what a product manager does, and build the foundational skill-set that will gear you towards a career in product management. To be an effective PM in the tech industry, you need to have a basic understanding of technology. In this book you'll get your feet wet by exploring the skills a PM needs in their toolset and cover enough ground to make you feel comfortable in a technical discussion. A PM is not expected to have the same level of depth or knowledge as a software engineer, but knowing enough to continue the conversation can be a benefit in your career in product management. A complete product manager will have a 360-degree understanding of user experience and how to craft beautiful products that are easy-to-use, with the end user in mind. You'll continue your journey with a walk through basic UX principles and even go through the process of building a simple set of UI frames for a mock app. Aside from the technical and design expertise, a PM needs to master the social aspects of the role. Acting as a bridge between engineering, marketing, and other teams can be difficult, and this book will dive into the business and soft skills of product management. After reading Product Management Essentials you will be one of a select few technically-capable PMs who can interface with management, stakeholders, customers, and the engineering team. What You Will Learn Gain the traits of a successful PM from industry PMs, VCs, and other professionals See the day-to-day responsibilities of a PM and how the role differs across tech companies Absorb the technical knowledge necessary to interface with engineers and estimate timelines Design basic mocks, high-fidelity wireframes, and fully polished user interfaces Create core documents and handle business interactions Who This Book Is For Individuals who are eyeing a transition into a PM role or have just entered a PM role at a new organization for the first time. They currently hold positions as a software engineer, marketing manager, UX designer, or data analyst and want to move away from a feature-focused view to a high-level strategic view of the product vision.

The Ports, Harbours, Watering-Places, and Picturesque Scenery of Great Britain, Vol. 2 Forgotten Books
Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna
Excerpt from The Ports, Harbours, Watering-Places, and Picturesque Scenery of Great Britain, Vol. 2: Illustrated by Views Taken on the Spot The view of the Lighthouse, at the head of Berwick Pier (which forms the Vignette to our Second Volume), is taken from the entrance to the harbour, about half a mile below the bridge. This Pier, the building of which was commenced in 1810, stands on the north side of the river, and is chieży erected on the foun dations of an old one, which is said to have been built in the reign of Queen Elizabeth. From the lighthouse, which was finished in 1826, two lights are exhibited at night, the one above the other. The upper one, which is of a pale, white colour, is lighted from sunset to sunrise; the lower one, which is of a bright red, is a tide-light, and is only displayed during the time that there is ten feet water on the bar. Berwick Harbour is not well adapted for vessels of large burthen, for the greater part of the shore, in front of the quay, is dry at low water. On the Tweedmouth side, near the Car Book, is the best water Within the bar; and a vessel drawing from Sixteen to eighteen feet water may lie there at all hours of the tide without touching the ground. The entrance to the harbour is narrow, as a bank of sand stretches out to the eastward, from the Spittal Shore, to the extent of nearly half a mile, and approaches to Within a cable's length of the rocks on the north. When the wind is from the eastward, there is always a swell on the bar; and the ebb-tide - more especially When there is a fresh in the river, in consequence of rain - runs out with such velocity that it is impossible for a vessel to make head against it. Vessels bound for Berwick, which cannot take the harbour in bad weather, usually seek shelter in Leith Roads.
