Ladies Like Us: A Modern Girl's Guide to Self-Discovery, Self-Confidence and Love The Darling Academy

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

Ladies Like Us - A modern girl's guide to self-discovery, self-confidence and love. Society has long been failing generations of young women. Since the 1960s, the liberalisation of the feminine identity brought about a rapid decline in common courtesy, grace, morality and manners and has almost wiped out the value of what it means to be a lady. We have been told to set aside dreams of an old-fashioned romance in favour of discovering our sexuality, despite what our hearts tell us. Being "ladylike" has fallen aside for the rise of the sell-out sexy celebrity we are told to emulate. This movement has done little to help how young ladies view their God-given feminine identity today. Yet quietly, there is an underground movement among young women who are embracing old-fashioned values and returning to their original dreams after all that exhausting bra burning and man bashing. Gone are the six inch heels, boob jobs, big gobs and fake beauty and in its place a classy, kind, educated and romantic young woman worthy of catching any prince. The Darling Academy is a spiritual finishing school for any young woman who wishes to: Live free from negative thinking and crippling self-doubt Be graceful and elegant regardless of modern pressures and trends Learn to embrace her feminine energy and still "have it all" Enjoy and nurture herself and her relationships right now Have clear hope for her future and follow her dreams Ladies Like Us, the debut book from The Darling Academy shares honest, modern, fun and informative guidance on what it really means to be a young lady today. From finding your identity as a lady and feeling at home in your skin, to cultivating true grace, quiet self-confidence and how to surround yourself with everyday happiness. Welcome to the modern finishing school for ladies, we're glad you're joining us.

Whiskey in a Teacup: What Growing Up in the South Taught Me about Life, Love, and Baking Biscuits TOUCHSTONE PR

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

Academy Award-winning actress, producer, and entrepreneur Reese Witherspoon invites you into her world, where she infuses the southern style, parties, and traditions she loves with contemporary flair and charm. Reese Witherspoon's grandmother Dorothea always said that a combination of beauty and strength made southern women "whiskey in a teacup." We may be delicate and ornamental on the outside, she said, but inside we're strong and fiery. Reese's southern heritage informs her whole life, and she loves sharing the joys of southern living with practically everyone she meets. She takes the South wherever she goes with bluegrass, big holiday parties, and plenty of Dorothea's fried chicken. It's reflected in how she entertains, decorates her home, and makes holidays special for her kids--not to mention how she talks, dances, and does her hair (in these pages, you will learn Reese's fail-proof, only slightly insane hot-roller technique). Reese loves sharing Dorothea's most delicious recipes as well as her favorite southern traditions, from midnight barn parties to backyard bridal showers, magical Christmas mornings to rollicking honky-tonks. It's easy to bring a little bit of Reese's world into your home, no matter where you live. After all, there's a southern side to every place in the world, right?

"Gene Wilder's frank, charming memoir, KISS ME LIKE A STRANGER, is refreshingly free from the two major sins of show-biz autobiographies: self-aggrandizement and score-settling."--"Los Angeles"" Times" In this unusually personal book from the beloved star of many beloved and classic film comedies--from "The Producers" to "Young Frankenstein," "Blazing Saddles" to "Willy "Wonka "and the Chocolate Factory"--Gene Wilder writes about a side of his life the public hasn't seen on the screen. Wilder talks about everything from his experiences in psychoanalysis to why he got into acting to the funny, wonderful movies he made with Mel Brooks, Woody Allen, Richard Pryor, and many others. He writes candidly about the role of women in his life, about the overwhelming experience of marrying comedienne Gilda Radner, and about what ultimately had to happen for him to find true love. KISS ME LIKE A STRANGER is one actor's life in his own words. " ""Uproarishly funny and at times very moving. It made me want to go out and see every Gene Wilder movie again."--Mel Brooks "an intimate, unusual memoir...His book candidly explores his own faults and feelings, as well as those of the people he's loved and lost."--"Publishers Weekly"

T. Thomas on Amazon.com"...reminds me of Le Guin, of Cecelia Holland, and something of Rosemary Sutcliff... It made me feel as I did when I was a child reading authors like those... Once again I was in a magical place..."--from a review by Charles Ferguson on Amazon.com"...there's no ring of power or glowing sword of specialness; the magic, like the tone of the book, is quiet. It feels real."--from a blog review on livejournalWhen she was a child, the author of When Women Were Warriors happily identified with all the male heroes she read about in stories that began, "Once upon a time, a young man went out to seek his fortune." But she would have been delighted to discover even one story like that with a female protagonist. Since she never did find the story she was looking for all those years ago, she decided to write it.In Book I of the trilogy, Tamras arrives in Merin's house to begin her apprenticeship as a warrior, but her small stature causes many, including Tamras herself, to doubt that she will ever become a competent swordswoman. To make matters worse, the Lady Merin assigns her the position of companion, little more than a personal servant, to a woman who came to Merin's house, seemingly out of nowhere, the previous winter, and this stranger wants nothing to do with Tamras."...Both men and women of all persuasions seem to love these books... PRE-ORDER THE NEW ALI HAZELWOOD NOVEL NOW!From the author of tiktok sensations and global bestsellers The Love Hypothesis and Love on the BrainRival physicists collide in a vortex of academic feuds and fake dating shenanigans in this delightfully STEMinist romcom. The many lives of theoretical physicist Elsie Hannaway have finally caught up with her. By day, she's an adjunct professor, toiling away at grading labs and teaching thermodynamics in the hopes of landing tenure.By other day, Elsie makes up for her non-existent paycheck by offering her services as a fake girlfriend, tapping into her expertly honed people-pleasing skills to embody whichever version of herself the client needs. Honestly, it's a pretty sweet gig - until her carefully constructed Elsie-verse comes crashing down. Because Jack Smith, the annoyingly attractive and arrogant older brother of her favourite client, turns out to be the cold-hearted experimental physicist who ruined her mentor's career and undermined the reputation of theorists everywhere. And he's the same Jack Smith who rules over the physics department at MIT, standing right between Elsie and her dream job. Elsie is prepared for an all-out war of scholarly sabotage but... those long, penetrating looks? Not having to be anything other than her true self when she's with him? Will falling into an experimentalist's orbit finally tempt her to put her most guarded theories on love into practice? Praise for Ali Hazelwood and her novels:'Ali Hazelwood proves that science is sexy as hell, and that love can 'STEM' from the most unlikely places. She's my newest must-buy author.' Why Love Hurts - A Sociological Explanation - 2842363098

Why Love Hurts - A Sociological Explanation Wiley-Blackwell

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

Few of us have been spared the agonies of intimate relationships. They come in many shapes: loving a man or a woman who will not commit to us, being heartbroken when we're abandoned by a lover, engaging in Sisyphean internet searches, coming back lonely from bars, parties, or blind dates, feeling bored in a relationship that is so much less than we had envisaged - these are only some of the ways in which the search for love is a difficult and often painful experience. Despite the widespread and almost collective character of these experiences, our culture insists they are the result of faulty or insufficiently mature psyches. For many, the Freudian idea that the family designs the pattern of an individual's erotic career has been the main explanation for why and how we fail to find or sustain love. Psychoanalysis and popular psychology have succeeded spectacularly in convincing us that individuals bear responsibility for the misery of their romantic and erotic lives. The purpose of this book is to change our way of thinking about what is wrong in modern relationships. The problem is not dysfunctional childhoods or insufficiently self-aware psyches, but rather the institutional forces shaping how we love. The argument of this book is that the modern romantic experience is shaped by a fundamental transformation in the ecology and architecture of romantic choice. The samples from which men and women choose a partner, the modes of evaluating prospective partners, the very importance of choice and autonomy and what people imagine to be the spectrum of their choices: all these aspects of choice have transformed the very core of the will, how we want a partner, the sense of worth bestowed by relationships, and the organization of desire. This book does to love what Marx did to commodities: it shows that it is shaped by social relations and institutions and that it circulates in a marketplace of unequal actors.
