Limits of Partnership Princeton University Press

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

The Limits of Partnership is a riveting narrative about U.S.-Russian relations from the Soviet collapse through the Ukraine crisis and the difficult challenges ahead. It reflects the unique perspective of an insider who is also recognized as a leading expert on this troubled relationship. American presidents have repeatedly attempted to forge a strong and productive partnership only to be held hostage to the deep mistrust born of the Cold War. For the United States, Russia remains a priority because of its nuclear weapons arsenal, its strategic location bordering Europe and Asia, and its ability to support--or thwart--American interests. Why has it been so difficult to move the relationship forward? What are the prospects for doing so in the future? Is the effort doomed to fail again and again? What are the risks of a new Cold War? Angela Stent served as an adviser on Russia under Bill Clinton and George W. Bush, and maintains dialogues with key policymakers in both countries. Here, she argues that the same contentious issues--terrorism, missile defense, Iran, nuclear proliferation, Afghanistan, the former Soviet space, the greater Middle East--have been in every president's inbox, Democrat and Republican alike, since the collapse of the USSR. Stent vividly describes how Clinton and Bush sought inroads with Russia and staked much on their personal ties to Boris Yeltsin and Vladimir Putin--only to leave office with relations at a low point--and how Barack Obama managed to restore ties only to see them undermined by a Putin regime resentful of American dominance and determined to restore Russia's great power status. The Limits of Partnership calls for a fundamental reassessment of the principles and practices that drive U.S.-Russian relations, and offers a path forward to meet the urgent challenges facing both countries. This edition includes a new chapter in which Stent provides her insights about dramatic recent developments in U.S.-Russian relations, particularly the annexation of Crimea, war in Ukraine, and the end of the Obama Reset.

Opis - Are the United States and the European Union able to set up a transatlantic free trade area" This is not the first time this question has surfaced. Over the last quarter century several transatlantic trade arrangements have ended in failure. Of late, the EU and the US have fundamentally differed when it comes to negotiating the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership (TTIP). These negotiations, which began in mid-June 2013, were frozen on 17 January 2017. The idea behind the Transatlantic Trade and Investment Partnership is clear: to agree on the principles of cooperation between the European Union and the United States"cooperation, which is of strategic value. If the agreement is reached and implemented, it could push both parties towards stronger political consolidation and solidify the West-led international order in the world. In contrast, should these negotiations not resume, the Transatlantic Alliance may lose the capacity to cope with the challenges created by the current world system tarnished by the rivalry of various new economic and political powers and their interests. That is why this interdisciplinary report, prepared by scholars and experts on the European Union and the United States, looks at the strategic facets of TTIP, and evaluates its objectives and potential impact to formulate a set of recommendations for the talks to be opened up again. The Authors (?) This report makes a worthwhile scientific interdisciplinary contribution to our understanding of the ideas and concepts that stood behind TTIP, as well as to the public narrative in the US and EU and its implications for the TTIP negotiations. It presents an interesting investigation on the stalemate in TTIP negotiations: its reasons, its effects and importance for the EU-US trade patterns in the foreseeable future. The book also offers alternative explanations of these phenomena. It formulates a variety of interpretations of the TTIP stalemate, as well as forecasts concerning the development of US-EU institutional forms of trade relationship in both a descriptive (i.e. prognostic) and prescriptive (i.e. normative) manner. Managing Global Business Strategies Chandos Publishing Ltd

Inne 1

Summary Aimed at key decision makers and those responsible for global strategy, this book is about changing markets and the complexity of undertaking business in a fast paced technological and knowledge based age in a dynamic and strategic context. Trends show a renaissance in entrepreneurial activity that is fuelling innovation particularly in the so called BRIC nations of Brazil, Russia, China and India. For example, both China and India have benefited immensely from Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) and as a direct consequence both nation states are reshaping the way global business is conducted and the way investment decisions are made. Evidence would suggest that Europe and the United States are more dependent on the BRIC trading nations for earnings and profits. Geographical distance is no longer a barrier between nations; however, the challenges of ethic diversity in domestic markets are multiplied by the difficulties of delivering goods and services into global markets with different cultures and languages. This book examines the issues associated with undertaking global business in complex and knowledge related markets.Key Features Written by highly knowledgeable and well-respected practitioners and academics in their field Provides practical insight and realistic answers to global and strategic problems Provides progressive constructs of trends and thoughts to take the reader from the current paradigm to the broader yet application-specific view of global business Provides diverse channels of thinking, and gives historical and new perspectives on the factors that drive global strategy Provides insight into the BRIC nations and their rise to prominence within global markets Provides insight into the sociological and political climate that is shaping global markets by examining how nation states and firms conduct business in challenging markets The Authors Dr John McManus is Rushmore Professor in Management Sciences (USA) and Senior Research Fellow at the University of Lincoln (UK). The Great Power Competition Volume 1 Springer, Berlin

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

Over the past decade, the international political system has come to be characterized as a Great Power Competition in which multiple would-be hegemons compete for power and influence. Instead of a global climate of unchallenged United States dominance, revisionist powers, notably China and Russia alongside other regional powers, are vying for dominance through political, military, and economic means. A critical battleground in the Great Power Competition is the Middle East, the Horn of Africa, and the Central Asia South Asia (CASA), also known as the Central Region. With the planned withdrawal of U.S. military forces from Afghanistan, the U.S. has stated its intention of shifting attention away from the CASA Region in favor of a more isolationist foreign policy approach. This book provides an in-depth understanding of the implications for this shift related to regional diplomacy & politics, economic opportunities & rivalries, security considerations & interests, and the information environment. Amplifying the vital importance of success in the Central Region to U.S. prosperity and security, this volume advances dialogue in identifying key issues for stakeholders within and beyond the Central Region to gain a holistic perspective that better informs decision-making at various levels. This collection of work comes from scholars, strategic thinkers, and subject matter experts who participated in the Great Power Competition Conference hosted by the University of South Florida, in partnership with the National Defense University Near East South Asia Center for Strategic Strategies in January 2020.

Książki / Literatura obcojęzyczna

Want to know the difference between 'cause' and 'reason'? Not sure when to write 'according' and when 'accordingly'? Confused about the correct usage of the gerund? This book is a compilation of the "Polishing Up English" newsletters I have been sending for over six years to employees whose native language is not English. In these newsletters, I cover common language issues for business people. Based on personal experience, I came to understand that most of the mistakes non-native speakers of English make are shared, and are encountered across the board, rather than being unique and strictly personal. Some mistakes appear more often than others. Examples of most frequent mistakes are analyzed and included. These mistakes also occur in contexts common to most areas of human interaction, such as small talk, in-office conversation, business correspondence, IT, and similar communication. This book features simpler chapters for beginners, Pronunciation and Punctuation. Followed by chapters for intermediate learners of English, such as Words and Phrases. Advanced users of English can use the Style and Quiz chapters to test their understanding of the language. This makes the book ideal for any non-native speaker of English, who proactively uses English on a daily basis for communicating with various English speakers both in written form and orally. Using this book will give you a unique opportunity to cut the list of possible mistakes you may make to a minimum. Sergiy Zatsarynnyy of Ukraine is a technical writer for multinational companies from different parts of the world. He holds a bachelor of cultural studies (humanities) from the University of Kiev-Mohyla Academy and a master of arts in English studies from the University of Leipzig (Germany). For 10 years, he has been interacting in English with people from Belgium, Brazil, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, France, Germany, Great Britain, Holland, Hungary, India, Poland, Portugal, Russia, South Africa, Turkey, Ukraine, and the United States. Rivals Penguin

Polityka

The former editor in chief of the "Economist "returns to the territory of his bestselling book "The Sun Also Sets "to lay out an entirely fresh analysis of the growing rivalry between China, India, and Japan and what it will mean for America, the global economy, and the twenty-first-century world. Though books such as "The World Is Flat "and "China Shakes the World "consider them only as individual actors, Emmott argues that these three political and economic giants are closely intertwined by their fierce competition for influence, markets, resources, and strategic advantage. R"ivals "explains and explores the ways in which this sometimes bitter rivalry will play out over the next decade--in business, global politics, military competition, and the environment--and reveals the efforts of the United States to manipulate and benefit from this rivalry. Identifying the biggest risks born of these struggles, R"ivals "also outlines the ways these risks can and should be managed by all of us.
